Daughter won't take her socks off on holiday

Hi,

I am going on holiday to Gran Canaria with my eldest daughter in a few weeks time. The weather of course will be quite warm and there's something that bugs me about my daughter when we go on a sunshine holiday. Whatever she is wearing on her feet (sliders, crocs & sandals) she will pair them with socks, even in boiling weather! Personally I am a flip flop and bare feet all day kind of woman. Is anyone else's son or daughter reluctant to take their socks off on holiday or is it just mine? I do worry she will overheat one of these days even at 21 years old. Is there anything I could say to her about this to convince her to ditch the socks?

My 16 year old will only ever wear his school kickers (well he has an old pair for dirty places!) and of course socks no matter what all year round.

Socks with sliders or sandals are a big fashion statement at the moment. She probably thinks it looks great. Either that or she's had a tattoo she doesn't want you to see, or she hates something about her feet. It doesn't really matter, does it? So long as she doesn't try to wear them in the pool I don't see the issue. If she's prepared to tolerate a postman's suntan that's up to her.

Reminds me of when I wore socks all the time around my parents (also at 21) because I had a secret tattoo! A possibility maybe?

I'm 56 and I very rarely wear sandals. I like my feet to feel protected, and can't stand all the bits of grit and sand that get in your feet.

I wear trainers and socks all summer, wherever I am. I haven't expired yet.

Socks are the thing now though aren't they? If you're young..so she won't look like a middle aged geography teacher, she'll look like a young person, who really likes her fashionable socks.

Probably, but I am 47 so I am beyond youth fashion sadly. I am decrepit. Either way I think you and I agree that she can wear socks with whatever she wants!

Tell her you pay for the holiday, she'll dress how you tell her or you'll disinherit her. That'll work!

Are you sure about her ancestry? Could there be some German blood? I thought they were the only people to wear socks and sandals (or equivalent).

Flip flops and sandals are horrible to wear without them IMO. I avoid them altogether, but if I had to, I'd rather wear them with socks than without.

Hahaha. This happened to me. My 16 year old was wearing her socks all week in Ibiza. Turned out she had a foot tattoo and was embarrassed.

You are not quite as decrepit as me. I understand the young people hate ankle socks and only like crew socks, but crew socks seem to be what I would call ankle socks, just pulled up as high as possible. I've tried to join in but they make my calves look like Miss Trunchball's.

You would hate me as I wear socks with Birkenstocks. Not as a style statement. Just because I don’t feel dressed without socks. Plus, I like to spare the world of the sight of my ugly trotters.

She might look a dick with white feet and a tan line on her ankles but she won’t overheat 😂

If she always wears socks, who's going to see the tan lines?
