Am I overreacting to DH’s April Fools??

This morning DH took the dog for a walk and he came back covered in “blood” and so was the dog. He came back “hysterical” and told me the dog had been savagely attacked by another dog. I was in panic mode and I ran over to next doors as she is a vet to see what to do. When we both came back from hers to the dog, DH says “April Fools” which I (and she) found extremely irritating. The blood he got from the cupboard Halloween storage. I felt humiliated, embarrassed and didn’t find it funny at all. He thinks I’m being a spoil sport!

AIBU? Am I being a wet lettuce or is this too far?

DH just got back from a long work trip (which I supported). He’s helpful and def pulls his weight on childcare of DD but I do more of the housework. We both work full time in good jobs. He’s been back a day or two, I’d left the laundry, thinking it was his turn after being away. And he just left a massive pile for me to sort and fold, then asked me to cover childcare this pm so he could go to the office b4 the bank holiday. I’ve ended up so cross. I get he’s jet lagged but I’m genuinely ill from tiredness. YABU give him a break, he’s no idea what time zone he’s in; YANBU it’s his turn to do a bit more.
PS I have NO idea how single parents do solo parenting, I’ve been running mainly on adrenaline and 6 hours sleep and am keeling over!

llikeyourbum · 01/04/2026 20:58

@SDLDNI think you need to start your own thread

FloofyKat · 01/04/2026 21:01

Your H is complete idiot. I hope he is full of grovelling apologies to you and your neighbour.

SoSadSoSadSoSad · 01/04/2026 21:02

Shit joke. Really shit joke

FlapperFlamingo · 01/04/2026 21:02

Your DH is an absolute prick but you knew that. Obviously you’ll be worried about him and the dog and letting you involve the neighbour
was awful.

That’s what FIL did on 1 April 2020 when he told us his mum (DH’s nan) had died from COVID so yeah his side of the family can be like that.

Oh dear god … i can see where he gotthe dickhead gene from

That's grounds for an annulment.

An annulment can only be performed if the husband and wife have only just got married and haven’t consummated the marriage yet….?

Strawberry53 · 01/04/2026 21:06

That’s a horrendous thing to do. If you must do an April fools keep it lighthearted!

outerspacepotato · 01/04/2026 21:06

Making you think your dog is seriously injured is a fucking asshole move, not a joke. 🖕

If I was your neighbour, I would have ripped him a new one.

He'd be sleeping elsewhere because I wouldn't want to see his face. There's something wrong with him.

OMG, how long have you been married into this batshit family?

Is it too late to leave?

Oh my god! That's awful!!

I think I would have created some real blood if someone tried that 'prank' on me! 🤜🏻 👃🏻🩸

Plmnki · 01/04/2026 21:11

Try out your home vasectomy trials on him as a joke, let’s see how funny he finds that. What a wanker.

Pranks are supposed to be funny. I'm sorry, but there's something very wrong with his family...

pteromum · 01/04/2026 21:13

Yeah so I’m going to be really down here.

but given the mental health crisis in vets and agricultural just now, and him not stopping her involvement. I would be very concerned and very careful how you can make this right.

she came out her home, to help. The poor woman. no equipment, no support,

reading the update re his fathers “prank”

wow.

Its not so much are you being unreasonable disliking it but you are being unreasonable staying.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/04/2026 21:16

Honestly it’s shit like this that makes April Fools a total waste of time. There’s always some dickhead who takes it too far.

I kind of wish the tradition would die out - the combination of pathetically juvenile and downright sick pranks are ridiculous

Cannaebebothered · 01/04/2026 21:17

SpaceRaccoon · 01/04/2026 19:47

There's something wrong with anyone who would find that funny.
Let me guess, you'd laugh your arse off if your DH told you your child had been killed by a car on a walk as a funny prank?

Okay, you're being weird now.

Paveparadiseputupaparkinglot · 01/04/2026 21:18

Not funny in the slightest

Cannaebebothered · 01/04/2026 21:21

Farewelltothatid · 01/04/2026 20:20

Whatever day of the year he did this to OP it would be cruel and unfunny.
If you realy think April 1st makes it ok then I think you must be as psychopathic as OP's H.

Edited

People use fake blood to play tricks all the time ie. Halloween to spook. 'Oh no, I've sliced my finger off!'

Chill out! No one got hurt.

aLittleWhiteHorse · 01/04/2026 21:21

That is really unkind.
I see his family has form for this type of humourless prank; you’d think he would have learned better by now.

AmazingGreatAunt · 01/04/2026 21:24

Under "normal" circumstances this would have been amusing, assuming you realised the date.
At present, in the current situation and the state of the country, not so funny.

Did you know he and his family were like that before you married him?

usedtobeaylis · 01/04/2026 21:24

I will never understand this type of 'prank'. It's just horrible behaviour.

Makemineacosmo · 01/04/2026 21:24

That's not even remotely funny.

IrishSelkie · 01/04/2026 21:27

I’d find it funny. Really surprised you didn’t notice that the dog wasn’t in pain and didn’t actually check for any injuries on either of them. I think you’re upset because you panicked and got the neighbour involved and now feel really stupid.

Bilbobagginsbollox · 01/04/2026 21:30

Sorry you married a knobhead.
