Am I overreacting to DH’s April Fools??

This morning DH took the dog for a walk and he came back covered in “blood” and so was the dog. He came back “hysterical” and told me the dog had been savagely attacked by another dog. I was in panic mode and I ran over to next doors as she is a vet to see what to do. When we both came back from hers to the dog, DH says “April Fools” which I (and she) found extremely irritating. The blood he got from the cupboard Halloween storage. I felt humiliated, embarrassed and didn’t find it funny at all. He thinks I’m being a spoil sport!

AIBU? Am I being a wet lettuce or is this too far?

Hope the vet bills him for an emergency call out 🫣

Itiswhysofew · 01/04/2026 20:30

That's a deranged April fool.

StephensLass1977 · 01/04/2026 20:30

If anyone pretended that my dog had been savagely mauled, it'd be the last trick they ever pulled. What a disgusting thing to do to you.

Climbingrosexx · 01/04/2026 20:32

As a dog owner that is one of my worst fears. Is he always an absolute dickhead?

It's an April Fools, lighten up!

Edited

It was a horrible, totally unfunny and unkind 'joke'. I would find it very hard to forgive. We don't need to 'lighten up'.

grumpygrape · 01/04/2026 20:34

That might help but you can't cure stupid can you?

Horses7 · 01/04/2026 20:35

What an absolute idiot - I’d be going ballistic at him!

Notyouagaindear · 01/04/2026 20:36

I bet he thinks it’s your fault for not finding it funny, I hate “jokes” like this. I’m sure your neighbour was furious and I hope she read him the riot act.

I expect he has been round to the neighbour with flowers.

Flowers plus chocs plus wine and commitment to washing her car once a week for 6 weeks might cover some of it.

Why the heck didn't he stop OP before she dashed to the vet neighbour ?

Did he not get the memo that says a joke is only a joke when everyone is laughing?

PS5Gamer · 01/04/2026 20:37

What absolute dickhead. He should apologise to your neighbour.

Wildgoat · 01/04/2026 20:37

Honestly that’s so ick making, what a twat. I’d be side eyeing him for ever that he was both so immature to do that and found it funny.

watchingthishtread · 01/04/2026 20:38

That's grounds for an annulment.

Fends · 01/04/2026 20:39

Oh man. I felt bad for dragging the kids in to confess which one had smashed the tv. It was a screensaver of a big crack 😂

momtoboys · 01/04/2026 20:44

What is he, 10? Thank was awful and you are right to be embarrassed to have been caused to get your neighbor involved. She must think he is knob.

JustSawJohnny · 01/04/2026 20:44

He actually let you disturb your neighbour?

What an absolute TWAT.

An unfunny one, at that!

ShakyBake · 01/04/2026 20:46

What an awful thing to do.

I have to ask op, is this a recent change in his temperament or humour? If so I don't want to alarm you but I think he may be suffering from a personality disorder.

SereneGoose · 01/04/2026 20:46

Ohpleeeease · 01/04/2026 19:37

Not too late to have some fun with this OP. Send him a colossal invoice “from your neighbour the vet”.

Oh yes
This.

WingingItSince1973 · 01/04/2026 20:47

I really think this thread is an April Fools joke. I can't imagine anyone in real life thinking this sort of prank would be a funny idea.

LlynTegid · 01/04/2026 20:48

Unacceptable to ever involve an animal in a prank.

Offleyhoo · 01/04/2026 20:50

So unacceptable

ItsLOSELikeLostNotLOOSELikeBaggy · 01/04/2026 20:50

What a fkin prick. He'd have been covered in real blood if he'd done that to me!

So thinking that your dog and (idiot) husband have been victims of an attack by another dog is funny? oh my aching sides, oh such hilarity and jolly japes not. Have a little think about the emotions someone would experience after seeing what looks like nasty injuries, imagine the distress and possbible panic. Would you double up with laughter when you heard the words "April Fool"?

worldshottestmom · 01/04/2026 20:52

What an absolute nob, as if he decided to let you go and get your neighbour before announcing his "prank". What a weirdo. Would expect this from a 12 year old but even then wtf

Nope, can't be an April Fool's joke because they finish at 12 noon or 'the joke is on you'. Mind, I think the husband has so much to do in the way of grovelling the joke is on him anyway.

It's not a joke if you are the only one laughing.

GoldDuster · 01/04/2026 20:53

If anyone I know did this I'd think they'd lost their fucking mental capacity and be concerned for their wellbeing.

This wouldn't have been "funny" on Halloween. This would be the last April Fools joke he would be playing on me.
