Am I overreacting to DH’s April Fools??

This morning DH took the dog for a walk and he came back covered in “blood” and so was the dog. He came back “hysterical” and told me the dog had been savagely attacked by another dog. I was in panic mode and I ran over to next doors as she is a vet to see what to do. When we both came back from hers to the dog, DH says “April Fools” which I (and she) found extremely irritating. The blood he got from the cupboard Halloween storage. I felt humiliated, embarrassed and didn’t find it funny at all. He thinks I’m being a spoil sport!

AIBU? Am I being a wet lettuce or is this too far?

vile, triggering and immature. Sorry that happened to you @OneDeepOPand I’m glad you dog is actually ok. maybe you walk the dog from now on?

This shit is exactly why I hate April Fool's Day. Pranks are almost never anything but mean-spirited and cruel.

Exactly, I was reading the April Fools thread and most of them were inane as fuck and I didn’t get why they were funny

hereismydog · 01/04/2026 19:21

Pranks are supposed to be funny! My DP switched my towel for a hooded baby towel this morning. That’s a silly, harmless little April Fool. Your DH has behaved horribly Sad

nopalite · 01/04/2026 19:22

What a twat! I’d be fucking fuming but it sounds like he’s as bad as his dad. I’d have been horrified and so panicked for my dog. 😡😞

Bohema123 · 01/04/2026 19:23

I can barely believe this is true. Sounds like something you would see on a comedy show that a deranged husband might do. You will be hard pressed to find a single other person who would think this is funny. He needs to have a long hard think about this and what possessed him.

Perpetuallywondering · 01/04/2026 19:23

The best April Fools are ones where you’re taken in at first by something that is plausible but a bit eye-rolly… and gradually they add more detail until you go 🤦‍♀️

Pretending that you’re seriously injured from a traumatic attack is not funny on any level.

ChaToilLeam · 01/04/2026 19:23

What a prick. Not funny at all.

The best April Fools are the ones that don’t happen! I’m ND and dread the grim inanity of people’s pranks

Namenamchange · 01/04/2026 19:25

He’s an attention seeker who likes to wind people, next time laugh a bit and walk away, he will hate that.. I bet he’s one of ‘I’m mad me’ types

That’s what FIL did on 1 April 2020 when he told us his mum (DH’s nan) had died from COVID so yeah his side of the family can be like that.

Oh bloody hell!

Wtf?!?!? That's not the slightest bit funny. Nor the dog thing.

It's actually vile. Who would joke about something like that?!?!?

YerMotherWasAHamster · 01/04/2026 19:30

You thought our dog was dying in agony but it was just a prank oh tee hee hee isn't that a hoot you were terrified thats so funny isnt that so funny

He's a twat

AmyDudley · 01/04/2026 19:31

I don't know what they use to make fake blood, but some artificial food colourings can give dogs an upset stomach if your dog licked any of the blood off. Hopefully not.
It's the sort of "joke" my XH would have found hilarious. Note 'X'.

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 01/04/2026 19:31

Good god that is not in the slightest bit funny, what the hell is wrong with him??

bugalugs45 · 01/04/2026 19:31

lovemelongtime · 01/04/2026 19:08

What a knob. I'd be furious

Me too

MyOliveStork · 01/04/2026 19:31

What an absolute prat. How old is he??? No that isn’t funny at all, especially when a neighbour became involved. If my husband did that I don’t know how I would react if I’m honest thinking about it. I know I would be very angry though.

MrsKateColumbo · 01/04/2026 19:31

That'a horrible and not funny at all

Nowheretobeseen · 01/04/2026 19:31

Yeah that’s not funny at all. He’s a grown man ffs.

purpleme12 · 01/04/2026 19:32

No that is not acceptable

I would be fuming and upset

I didn't think anyone did April Fool's day jokes anymore. Been about 20yrs since I have experienced one. Yeah, bit stupid really.

Having written that though, I do like the practical joke phone calls that Bart Simpson does to Mo's bar in the Simpsons. ( Is there a Seymour Butts here? I wanna Seymour Butts!!!)

Ohpleeeease · 01/04/2026 19:37

Not too late to have some fun with this OP. Send him a colossal invoice “from your neighbour the vet”.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 01/04/2026 19:38

A joke like this can be funny if it's more lighthearted and extremely brief. Letting you think your dog was seriously injured at all is not funny, it's really really upsetting and the adrenaline can take ages to disappear. Letting it go on for long enough that you got a neighbour is disgusting. Causing someone severe upset for a 'joke' just shows the 'joker' is the kind of cruel person that gets kicks out of other people's pain. Like the kind of person who finds it hilarious to remove a chair just as someone sits down. I'd be livid. Some people would have a panic attack or in extreme cases, a heart attack at this kind of news.

Pinkflamingo10 · 01/04/2026 19:38

Hope the vet charged him for a call-out

Whosthetabbynow · 01/04/2026 19:38

Jeez. Knob

I assume he has good sides? Though obviously from this, his whole side of the family enjoys humour at the expense of others. Usually, this says enough to me about someone, because I’ve never liked people who laugh when someone else trips (in real life where people are embarrassed, not slapstick comedy), you know?! I wouldn’t even call this dark humour; I have a dark sense of humour and so do most of my friends. We joke about dying. But we wouldn’t pull these stupid pranks (or any pranks really - I fucking hate them, unless it’s something genuinely creative that hurts no one) that cause stress and upset.
