Came up with a ridiculous business idea in my sleep. Tell me how bad it is

Ok, it’s a huge cruise ship in a warehouse, that doesn’t move. You pay to stay on it and you’ll have the whole cruise experience without the moving around or being on the sea. There would be light projections to simulate night and day, and also it would be warm.
I guess my market would be people who can’t afford a cruise and/or aren’t that bothered by the destinations side. My grandparents who have been on lots of cruises say some people don’t bother to get off to see Rome or wherever.
I was thinking about those Disney cruises where the selling point is the cruise itself and the activities/ water park.
It would also be a safe bet due to being in a controlled environment. Wouldn’t be disrupted by wars or weather conditions.
I think I was inspired by the huge ship they built for the film Titanic.

are you on drugs, did someone put something in your drink before you went to sleep?

Yesitsmeimback · 21/03/2026 09:42

Isn't that a hotel?

topcat2014 · 21/03/2026 09:42

Kind of like a care home or assisted living then?

(i'm 55 and we haven't ruled out a river cruise at some point..)

Tropicalsunshine · 21/03/2026 09:43

I think you just invented the holiday resort.

Yeah, this is called a hotel.

WitsEnd694 · 21/03/2026 09:43

At least you know already its ridiculous, that should have been the end of it

Madness 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Malasana · 21/03/2026 09:43

I think hotels have already been invented.

Wickedlittledancer · 21/03/2026 09:43

You mean like a resort op? They already exist.

Chemenger · 21/03/2026 09:43

So, a hotel with no windows? Where you are locked in. A luxury prison.

Schoolchoicesucks · 21/03/2026 09:44

This sounds like a holiday resort complex.

Holdmybeermoment · 21/03/2026 09:44

So, it’s just a hotel with loads of activities? Those already exist. It would just be a bit more heavily leaning towards an activity based hotel. Which could work.
Hit post too soon

It could work because there are lots and lots of activity based resorts and hotels, you’d just be doing it a lot more confined that something like centre parks

Nevermind17 · 21/03/2026 09:45

Hotels (built on land) pretending to be ships are already a thing. Liverpool has two, The Liner and The Titanic. I’m sure they’re everywhere.

Yoperreosolo · 21/03/2026 09:46

but it kind of moves Grin

Even the weirdest ideas can be refined and brought to fruition.
Basically it’s a niche hotel but I admire folks who have ideas they might translate into reality.
It’ll cost a huge amount of money but with refinement and research, maybe a feasibility study, bit of scaling down, we’ll see you on Dragon’s Den.

Gatekeeper · 21/03/2026 09:47

OP...you are a nutter Grin

StormyLandCloud · 21/03/2026 09:47

Sounds like torture, not a holiday!

… like a pirate ship ride at a theme park?

Yoperreosolo · 21/03/2026 09:48

But you dont really feel movement on a cruise them have stabilisers so it doesnt feel like its moving. Unless its in a storm you cant tell your at sea

glitterchops · 21/03/2026 09:49

This is one of the worst ideas ive ever heard.

What next- a safari experience for people who cant afford to go on a safari?

Actors could get dressed up in lion costumes and roar past a stationary 4x4 which simulates driving? 🤣

icreatedascene · 21/03/2026 09:50

I love this OP. I once had a dream about this incredible plot for a potential book, woke up and thought I must write it down when I get up in the morning, but when I re awoke I had forgotten it. It was going to be a best seller too 💔

Re the cruise. I think deep down a lot of people like a cruise because you are going on holiday to different countries, even if you don't get off. Telling people you're going on holiday to a shopping container in an industrial estate in Grimsby isn't going to give the desire effect. If you somehow were able to simulate nice outdoor space I think you might have a market. I will come on board and test it out for free.

They have this!! You can stay in hotels at various zoos, looking out on the leopard enclosure or whatever! I really want to do it but my DH refuses!

catipuss · 21/03/2026 09:52

A bit like a prison?

You could also have projections all round the warehouse walls of the places you're not visiting and the seascapes. And sound effects of waves, seagulls, passing ships and ports you don't visit. Ultra violet lamps over the swimming pools so you can get a tan.

PennySweeet · 21/03/2026 09:55

How in the Jane McDonald would this ever work?!

I just can't see the point of it.
