MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

DS2 has accidentally spoiled my surprise present (autism and ADHD and cannot keep a secret!). He started with “you’re gonna love your present” and me, knowing exactly where this is going, saying “oh I can’t wait for my lovely surprise” but he just kept on going with a load of not so subtle clues, finally blurting out “it’s chocolate!!” Then “oh god don’t tell DS1 I told you!” I’ve promised I won’t say a word to DS1, but knowing DS2 he’ll confess later 😂

My ds was like this when younger. He'd be so excited to keep the secret it would spill out! Every time!
We stopped telling im what/who presents were for!
Thankfully he's 38 and can keep a secret/surprise now!

My cat, who has never ever brought anything into the house before, left a present of a dead shrew for me to almost step on as I walked into the kitchen this morning! 😂

brunettemic · 15/03/2026 09:11

I’m about to go for a run and it’s raining. In the grand scheme of things I’m doing ok 😂

I was hoping to settle down on the sofa this afternoon with a nice drink and chocolates and watch a decent film, perhaps a period drama or a chick flick . . . .

The film the BBC is showing this afternoon is "How the West was Won"

The BBC was heavily criticised a few years ago for showing a WW2 film on Mother's Day afternoon . . . they don't seem to have learned at all!!!!

I think I will write to Points of View!

There is The Other Bennet Sister just released in full in BBC’s IPlayer. My husband is away this weekend so that’s my day sorted out. Binging this series with junk food, chocolate and tea!

TheChosenTwo · 15/03/2026 09:11

I’m back from a lovely swim but ds is still asleep. So I had a shower and am dressed and ready to go out and do some Mother’s Day stuff with and for my mum.
dd1 is on holiday and dc2 is at uni, but MD is always a very low key affair for us. Dh is making my favourite roast later on and ds is on pudding duty.
So nothing disappointing going on here actually!

Samewrinklesnewname · 15/03/2026 09:11

Dh has just offered to go to Tesco to pick up some stuff for brunch-the BASTARD!

(it’s my dd’s 1st Mother’s Day so I want to spoil her )

RonaldMcDonaldTrump · 15/03/2026 09:12

It was my birthday on Wednesday and husband had got me a Chocolate Orange and a bottle of Baileys Chocolate Orange. I must've appeared grateful as lo and behold, another 1 of each awaited me this morning. Yes I might've said they were a nice present but that doesn't mean I wanted them gifted to me again four days later you lazy oaf

I got up, stepped in cat sick. Cleaned it up, changed my socks. Stepped in another pile of sick. Four piles of sick in total, and a large hairball. Cat has excelled himself, the complete bastard.

Cats have a lot of explaining to do today!

Fluffythekitten · 15/03/2026 09:12

I was woken up at 6am by my 8 yo DD (she's only slept about 8.5 hrs and couldn't go back to sleep). It's 9am now and she is already tired and I am too 😴 . House is a mess as we were out yesterday, Happy Mother's Day!

Out of interest, why can't women enjoy military history?

They can, of course they can! But was hoping for something a bit lighter on Mother's Day . . .

Will have to wait until this evening for The Other Bennet Sister

I'm sorry but I'm afraid did laugh!

It’s already on the BBC IPlayer if you have it

I'm just surprised that there are women who claim to actually enjoy breakfast in bed.

Supremely uncomfortable, messy and undignified. The sort of torture you have to endure in hospital.

I have breakfast in bed every weekend. I also sometimes have dinner in bed. My bed is the best place in the world for most things to be fair.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 15/03/2026 09:15

Daughter coming home from uni later, so can’t wait for that. Boys as usual bought me chocolates-that they will eat as I have never really eaten chocolate which they all know 🤦🏼‍♀️

Many thanks, that's extremely helpful . . . my afternoon isn't ruined after all!!!

lowj · 15/03/2026 09:16

I’ve just been gifted a used air fryer bought from the charity shop. - I have never wanted an air fryer - let alone one that still has remnants of the previous owners dinner in there …

DS was up at 5:30. Changed him (he's 3 on the autism pathway hence why still in nappies) so got his breakfast + drink i still have to feed it to him so takes a while. I fed the dogs, let them out, cleaned the sides then folded the washing. DH came in the room at 7:30 said happy mothers day i said thank you. He promptly fell to sleep on the sofa. Still asleep now....will probably wake up when he hears me boil the kettle and ask for one too. Same as every Sunday really. And Man Utd are on at 2pm just to top my day off....😶

I can totally sympathise with Man United 🙄I can't stand the football at the best of times!

My DD made me scrambled eggs with cream. Squirty cream she found and the back of the fridge. Left over from Christmas 🤢

🤢 this is one of the most revolting things I’ve ever read!! 🤢
It was a very lovely idea though!

DustyMaiden · 15/03/2026 09:18

I won’t hear from my DC until later as they’ve flown the nest.
DH offered me a cup of tea at 7.30, said cup of tea arrived at 8.17. I think I’m married to Flash Gordon.

Danikm151 · 15/03/2026 09:19

My mom got some flowers on behalf of my son to give to me… realised they aren’t suitable for cats so has asked me to go buy my own on the way to her house 😂

Enjoy Bronte. I'm off for a Das Boot marathon.

MissisBee · 15/03/2026 09:21

Woken up before 7 by DD shouting that she'd wet the bed (she's 5 and wouldn't normally expect her to be up before 8 at the weekend). Let DH sort that out and pretended to be asleep when she sneaked in with all her gifts for me - no less than 11 handmade cards and pictures, and a loom band ❤️
DH then made me oatmeal pancakes for breakfast, which would have been delicious if it were not for the fact he was using an old box of ready brek 2 years out of date 😂 plenty of maple syrup required!!

Prosecco85 · 15/03/2026 09:22

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mum's who are holding it all together, and doing more than they usually would on a Sunday to keep everyone happy! 💗I am looking forward to a large glass of wine later while Man United is on! 😂

Awww that is kind of sweet that the cats are higher on their priority than your gift of flowers Grin

My Mother's Day mantra, " working twice as hard on Saturday, so it doesn't go tits up on Monday" That kind of sums up Mothers day to me 😂

right!
