MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

I thought you meant dd had eaten all the other sweets and left you just the one crunchie! That would have been a really bad start to the day

That's what I thought too.

cobrakaieaglefang · 15/03/2026 20:38

@BoogieTownTopany other one ..just not crunchie.

My Mother's Day fail.
My two lovely sons organised for some coffee pods to be sent to me, except DS1 who ordered them, had them sent to his address my mistake.
I got a face time from the 2 of them (minutes after I finished a half marathon), when the box of pods was proudly shown to me by DS1.
I hope he pops them in the post soon especially as I sent him his phone charger that he left when he visited last week.

I bought flowers from DD and was going to take the cost from her pocket money but now I can't bring myself to. So I bought my own mothers day present. The flowers are nice though.

I didn't get any flowers, which is fine, I feel loved and thought of.
But I did consider swinging by Lidl and redeeming my 40% off Mother's Day flowers this afternoon. I didn't.

The cat has bought me a Molton Brown travel bag filled with mini shower gels clearly aimed at men. Dark Leather or Tobacco Absolute, anyone? I suppose he didn’t know any better… 🤣

They're my favourite MB products, I'll send you my address! I don't want the cat though, much as I prefer cats to dogs.

I woke up with at 6am with a migraine, ready for a long day with my 2 year old and 5 week old. 😖😵

Luckily it had gone off by 11am, but I was watching movies with a cold flannel over my face for the whole morning and covered in children.

Went to the park in the afternoon and the baby cried the whole time we were walking home. But I did nap in the afternoon. 😴😊

All in all, it's been a good day. 🥰

This made me chuckle - I’m going to watch Spurs lose next weekend! 😂

Obviously that lift brought them a bit of luck in Liverpool! Good luck next week.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 15/03/2026 21:10

DS started his day at 1am and became increasingly tired and dysregulated throughout the day….. DH snuck me my presents away from DS as he was in such a state and find occasions difficult.

I had lovely gifts though and an afternoon nap.

My youngest son whose 15 went to shop for some flowers. Been windy here all day. We are 20 min walk from shop. He picked lillies. Only one lilly intact. The wind damaged them. I have a lovely vase of 4 lily stalks and 1 complete flower 🤣

Back in the dark ages when we were 'courting' now DH then DBoyfriend bought me flowers, tied them to the pillion seat of his motorbike rode for 2 hours and presented me with some cellophane wrapped stalks. Reader I married him.

I’ve got a present, that I’ve seen delivered by Amazon. Been gifted in the same Amazon box. (Not the first time)
Anyone else if given Amazon gifts in the Amazon box ? Or Am I being ungrateful for the 1click purchase / low effort ? 🫣

Aloha2024 · 15/03/2026 21:31

Also didn’t get any flowers, but because I am petty, I went shopping myself and bought 3 bouquets for myself and they look beautiful.

xmaswiththeinlaws · 15/03/2026 21:32

My first Mother's day i got nothing as DH said he didn't realise he was supposed to get me anything as I'm not his mother. I pointed out to him that 11 month old might need a hand with the shopping.
A few years later I got a letter from my kids pinned to my door on Mother's day telling me they were running away to live with Stampy cat.
Consequently I have set the bar pretty low, so my now 18 year old DD picked up a small bunch of flowers from the supermarket ( no card) and nothing from DS.
DH wrote a card and got some flowers and chocolates.
I cooked dinner as usual, spent the day doing tip run, sorting boxes etc as we are decorating and had yesterday evening off for my birthday outing.

Madisnttheword · 15/03/2026 21:39

Mines unfortunately not lighthearted. I spent the day in hospital with my husband who is in ICU and fighting for his life

It is a fairly typical event tbh, he has many, many wonderful qualities but thinking through the likely consequences of his actions isn't one of them. When he proposed he did reference said event and said he wouldn't meet anyone else so willing to laugh it off and be pleased that he had made the effort even if it hadn't played out quite as he wanted it to.

Stepsisterfromhell · 15/03/2026 21:59

Looking forward to a lie-in but neighbour decided to play loud music and sing along at the top of his voice 7:30am to 8:30am. Managed to get back off to sleep, when DS comes into room with chocolates, flowers, and wine - a lovely thing to wake up to but I WAS ASLEEP ffs.

I've been given an enormous number of tulips and they always remind me of my late mother. I called in and gave her a bunch of tulips, she said she loved tulips but didn't like how the heads were so droopy. I told her to push a pin through the stem just below the heads, do it twice in at right angles, it creates a capillary action and the heads stay erect. A few days later when I called the flowers were in the window, beautifully upright, I commented on this to her and she agreed but 'those pins look silly', she'd left the pins in, so each flower had two pins in the heads!

We’re fairly low key with celebrations here and always have been but I did have a word with both teen DC a few weeks ago about how they’re of an age when I expect them to show some initiative and responsibility and they have.
My favourite moment, though, was in a Tesco Express this morning when there were two children aged about 8 clutching a lurid bunch of flowers and a bar of chocolate and painstakingly counting out their 5, 10 & 20ps. There were three other customers in there and I think we were all hovering ready to step in if they didn’t have enough. Their delight when they had 70p left and the conference as to whether they should buy something else for their mum, something for their themselves or put it back in their piggy bank.

I recall being in the city late on a Saturday afternoon and I saw a bunch of tough looking boy huddled round, when I walked closer instead of 'substances' that I suspected, they were all trying to conceal boxes of chocolates about their persons, not cool to be seen carrying them!

I’m about to go for a run and it’s raining. In the grand scheme of things I’m doing ok 😂

So update after the run…got back expecting to just find DD and the dog but DH’s car was on the drive. Came through the door, DH said DS won’t be making his football match and I could hear DS being sick upstairs and when he came downstairs he was as white as a ghost bless him. Cancelled tea out and had a lazy day with a a bucket next to wherever DS was sitting.

Try being a single parent (who didn’t choose to be a single one, I might add) we get nothing, not even a break from mummy duties for the day!!!

I buy my own presents! (And I got a box of chocolates and five chocolate bars at church this morning, because our ward is slightly insane. 😆 )

My aim, once DS is old enough (he's not even two years old yet) is to give him some money and gently encourage him to pick out some presents and a card for me for Mother's Day, birthdays and Christmas. My goal is for him to grow into a man who buys thoughtful presents for his future partner/s!

Pliudev · 15/03/2026 23:18

I have three grown up sons who don't live near me. I got 2 birthday cards, 2 lemon squeezers and a book about the end of communism in Albania.

MilkMachineMama · 15/03/2026 23:32

I had some lovely cards from 3yo DD and the baby. Husband had bought a necklace I sent him the link to as a Mother’s Day or birthday request. Except it was a slightly different and personalised necklace from the same place, which was more thought but I don’t like it as much as the one I sent him the link to! But there’s no way I can say that as it would be mega ungrateful, but it did leave me feeling a bit flat (although that might just be sleep deprivation)..
