MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

i take it all back!

ds21 text me happy mothers and to say he loved me, ds26 bought me a card, chocolates and a plant and dp brought me cake and coffee in bed then made me hot cross buns!!!

I know I keep quoting myself!

After a lovely day I had a phone call as dad had been rushed to hospital. Unfortunately he's now end of life, so it's a waiting game.

Not how I planned to end my Mother's Day 😥

WhatterySquash · 15/03/2026 23:39

I feel a bit conflicted about Mother's day as I have a bad relationship with my own mum. I would hate my DC to feel any pressure or expectation especially as I don't do anything for my mum, I used to but it got too much and is too unbearable. So I just try to see it like any other day.

I'm single and have a teen at home and one at uni nearby. Teen sometimes makes me a card but this weekend she's had a bad cold/flu and it wasn't on her mind. Then DS came round, also no clue it's mother's day. But we all had dinner and chatted and had a laugh and I felt really happy that I'd spent it with them both and that we all get on. I ended up feeling warm and fuzzy and "what a lovely mother's day I had after all" in a super-cheesy sentimental way!

It was my birthday on Wednesday and husband had got me a Chocolate Orange and a bottle of Baileys Chocolate Orange. I must've appeared grateful as lo and behold, another 1 of each awaited me this morning. Yes I might've said they were a nice present but that doesn't mean I wanted them gifted to me again four days later you lazy oaf

this is hilarious. thought my husband was bad at gifts

My 12 year old DS has just presented me with a card, in which he's written "Your the best Mum ever". Yet I have failed - trying to bite my tongue about apostrophes 🤣

Same!

I’ve got a present, that I’ve seen delivered by Amazon. Been gifted in the same Amazon box. (Not the first time)
Anyone else if given Amazon gifts in the Amazon box ? Or Am I being ungrateful for the 1click purchase / low effort ? 🫣

We are an Amazon box family here. Everyone happy to recurve and give in a box.

I got 1.2 kg of maltezers bags in an Amazon box this morning and loved it!

Maybe not quite so light-hearted but... My two adult DCs took me out for lunch. It was lovely and we all enjoyed it. They refused to let me pay anything towards it (obviously) but I accidentally caught sight of the bill. I'm really quite upset that they spent so much when they can ill afford it.

tinseltitss · 16/03/2026 08:38

These are making me smile :) I had a perfect day. My husband left early doors to go and see his family in a different county. My 21 year old DD came into my room and got into bed with me and we had a chill then went to see my mum and spent the day doing family stuff. It was really lovely and I feel so very blessed to have a DD who still wants to get cuddles from me.

Mines unfortunately not lighthearted. I spent the day in hospital with my husband who is in ICU and fighting for his life

Sending you love ❤️

Not exactly relaxing. My teen children left me for my lie in but I was woken up at 10am by my Dad calling my mobile to ask me to take him to a dentist as he had swelling and pain. Quickly got dressed and drove round. “How long has it been swollen” About a week! It didn’t look too bad. He hadn’t taken any painkillers so dosed him with paracetamol and he decided it could wait. I’ve managed to get him an appointment for tomorrow morning. He last went to the dentist in 1968.

I got home had a quick dunk rather than a leisurely soak in the bath whilst DH took the car to buy bits for lunch.
I’d told DD we could go to the beach for an ice cream in the afternoon. Ice cream stall closes at 4. DH faffed over cooking (he always does, bless him) it was very tasty but I had to bolt my lunch down as DD was getting distressed we were going to be too late for ice cream. We got there at 3.50 just as the sun turned to rain and sat in the car with our whippys. Finished my lunchtime glass of wine when we got home. 😄

I got sent a GIF by my OC. I didn't reply.

Yes they are delighted with a draw!! Bloody ridiculous

We are my Mother’s Day consisted of a sulking husband and nine year 9!! (Liverpool season ticket holders 😂)

😂😆

In my card my 14 year old said “you’re doing the best job” crossed out “the” and changed it to “your” so my card now says you’re doing your best. Cheers kid lol

DearDenimEagle · 16/03/2026 15:50

Mine would have been ruined if they gave me anything Kraft chocolate. When it was Cadbury’s it was ok, acceptable. Still prefer Belgian chocolate. Mine know better..gave me Baileys with a card .Eldest just sent a text. His gf must have prompted him.

Sending love and thoughts to @Madisnttheword and everyone else struggling atm.

i said on here yesterday that I was feeling sad missing my mum. I have a best friend of 40 years who was practically raised by my parents as hers were shit. Yesterday evening she sent me a photo of a candle she had lit for rememberance of my mother and saying how much she missed her too. It was so thoughtful - and included reminiscing of various classic cat related incidents with my mum etc. really made me and DC smile.

(sorry for any shit spag)

KindleSchmindle · 16/03/2026 16:16

Also hope those suffering from the after effects of cats spraying, dog bogies and spray cream scrambled eggs are bouncing back Smile

Please don’t show them you are upset. My mum did and it really takes the shine out of the day. They are adults and know what they can and can’t afford.

I was genuinely pleased and happy, and we had a lovely time. It was only later that I started to feel upset. I worry about them, like most mothers I suppose, and I'm sorry you experienced that.

Cats have a lot of explaining to do today!

My cat always has a lot of explaining to do! He was quite entertaining on Mother’s Day though, I had to distract him with string to stop him lying on the picture DD was explaining to me and he nearly slithered off the table several times. He’s not even allowed on the table, but I am a very lax cat parent.

😂😂😂 love this

Soberinthecity · 18/03/2026 13:29

Love this post. So refreshing to read something lighthearted as opposed to the Grown up babies who are whingeing about not getting what they wanted for Mother’s Day. 😂
