MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

Mine are young adults.
Eldest already gone to work.
Youngest still in bed. I know he’s got me a card cos I was with him when he bought it!
oh well, good job I don’t care that much and I hate eating in bed.

Helpforsummer · 15/03/2026 08:57

My one year old woke me to say happy mother's day at 1am, 4am, 4.30am, 5am, 6am. The 4 year old joined her at 6.30am and my 6 year old got in on the fun at 7.
To top it off some absolute heathen has organised a soft play party for 9.30am 😭☠️

OneShyQuail · 15/03/2026 08:58

Ive had breakfast in bed bought to me by my girls and a lovely personalised vase/flowers 😊

Happy mothers day all xx

P.s nicely timed with the F1 😊

I got up, stepped in cat sick. Cleaned it up, changed my socks. Stepped in another pile of sick. Four piles of sick in total, and a large hairball. Cat has excelled himself, the complete bastard.

mogtheexcellent · 15/03/2026 08:59

11yo DD still asleep.

I've got to get up and make soup for lunch which DH has invited the PILs to. Hmm

Gloriia · 15/03/2026 09:00

One of ours has had the brass neck to go away for the weekend. Fummin.
They'd better present me with some motorway flowers and a box of Ferrero before the day is out or else I'll go NC and LTB.

bogginbluesticks · 15/03/2026 09:00

Came out of the loo last night to find 8yo DS halfway up the stairs in his PJs sneaking flowers up to his room for the morning because he was worried they'd wilt in the car overnight. Mothering Sunday (not mother's day, heaven forfend) is RUINED, they should have been presented to me in bed this morning, knowing of their existence in advance has simply destroyed the magic I can't believe how inconsiderate this child is.

DH actually did almost make a total arse of it when we were picking cards together for our own mum's, picked one up and said 'oh this one has a bookmark, my mum would like that!'.
The card said 'Happy heavenly mother's Day' and the bookmark was a little memorial marker to stick in a grave. MIL may be a tad morbid at times but she's very much alive.

Well ds21 text me from uni yesterday to say he hadn't gotten me a card or present but he loved me, ds26 is still in bed however there has been no Amazon deliveries for him this week so I'm guessing he's forgotten and dp said yesterday 'you can make me hot cross buns whilst I watch F1' so I replied ' no you can make me them as it's mothers day' ... 'but you're not my mother' was his reply (granted he's not dc's dad) so I've come up empty handed!!!

Do I win?? lol 😂

LittleJustice · 15/03/2026 09:02

I have three sons and I'm divorced. The oldest one isn't speaking to me at the moment because I tided his bedroom thinking I was doing a nice thing and he feels like his privacy has been violated so I'm not expecting to get anything from him...

The youngest one completely forgot and has gone for a hike with his friends saying "my bad" before he left.

My only hope is my middle son who is at university but his girlfriend is amazing and very family-orientated so I'm sure she will have remembered and I believe they are coming around later so thoughts and prayers for me....

BeanQuisine · 15/03/2026 09:03

I'm just surprised that there are women who claim to actually enjoy breakfast in bed.

Supremely uncomfortable, messy and undignified. The sort of torture you have to endure in hospital.

thewonderfulmrswatson · 15/03/2026 09:03

DS was up at 5:30. Changed him (he's 3 on the autism pathway hence why still in nappies) so got his breakfast + drink i still have to feed it to him so takes a while. I fed the dogs, let them out, cleaned the sides then folded the washing. DH came in the room at 7:30 said happy mothers day i said thank you. He promptly fell to sleep on the sofa. Still asleep now....will probably wake up when he hears me boil the kettle and ask for one too. Same as every Sunday really. And Man Utd are on at 2pm just to top my day off....😶

nOlives · 15/03/2026 09:04

I didn't know it was Mother's Day, and I doubt anything beyond this thread will remind me of it today.
Both my DS are still asleep.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 15/03/2026 09:04

I carried a (very very) heavy bag back from the supermarket yesterday & have done something to my neck/upper back. I’m walking around like I’m in an invisible brace so it’s an ibuprofen breakfast for me, while DD13 & DD16 tell me how bad their colds are. I’ve got lovely cards & gifts though so the only thing that’s letting the day down was my need to buy heavy groceries!

My DD made me scrambled eggs with cream. Squirty cream she found and the back of the fridge. Left over from Christmas 🤢

😂❤️

youbizarrehorse · 15/03/2026 09:07

DP is up. UP! I wanted the morning to myself. Thankfully the teenagers can be relied upon to keep a low profile😆

TheVeryAngryCaterpillar · 15/03/2026 09:07

My kids very kindly agreed to put the washing on (when I asked them to) but have filled the drawer with floor cleaner instead of laundry liquid so I'm doing it all again.
They also sang "Happy Mother's Day To You" at the crack of dawn accompanied by tuneless ukulele thrashing, and presented me with a giant Thing made out of painted egg boxes which I have no idea what to do with.
They're great kids 🥰

I was hoping to settle down on the sofa this afternoon with a nice drink and chocolates and watch a decent film, perhaps a period drama or a chick flick . . . .

The film the BBC is showing this afternoon is "How the West was Won"

The BBC was heavily criticised a few years ago for showing a WW2 film on Mother's Day afternoon . . . they don't seem to have learned at all!!!!

I think I will write to Points of View!

Out of interest, why can't women enjoy military history?

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · 15/03/2026 09:09

Dd is currently putting on a long complex one woman show involving a cloak and various characters.
I am not allowed to laugh apparently 😂
I was presented with the remote control but dont think I will have that power for long

I’m sorry this really made me laugh! I hope you have a great day anyway ❤️

EmuFace · 15/03/2026 09:09

The cat has bought me a Molton Brown travel bag filled with mini shower gels clearly aimed at men. Dark Leather or Tobacco Absolute, anyone? I suppose he didn’t know any better… 🤣

Mischance · 15/03/2026 09:10

My best gift came a few days ago from a 10 year old GS, who, after I jokingly asked him how much he might pay me for something he wanted doing, said "I don't have any money but will pay you with love." That'll do for me!! 😀
