If you’re mourning the loss of Ayatollah Ali Khameni in the U.K., why do you want to live in the U.K.?

This is just a genuine question, and maybe a little ignorant on my part. But if you essentially worship someone who hates the West and everything the West stands for so much, why do you choose to live in the U.K.? Surely you must hate living here and would prefer to live in countries which follow similar repressive approaches as the IR, so why wouldn’t you move there?

And why has the U.K. allowed the Iranian’s to have an Embassy in London for so long, if they are so anti the West and are such a big security threat to our freedom.

This isn’t a goading post and has nothing to do with moderate Islam, I just don’t understand if you have such extreme views, why you choose to stay in a country that goes against everything you believe in?

@TheFilliesWillRiseAgainthis is who I’m talking about? Sorry I should have made it more clear that I’m not associating this with Iranians, just those who have been reported in the press as mourning his death!

‘This isn’t a goading post’

Yes, it is

mistymorninglight · 05/03/2026 07:00

Because there are many Iranians living here who aren't anti-the West and they have a right to be represented by their country so they have an embassy here. Hope that helps.

OneGreySeal · 05/03/2026 07:01

Who are you even talking to or referring to. Such a bizarre post.

dancingredshoes · 05/03/2026 07:01

@Pinkissmartwow! Nobody can dare to ask a question regarding extreme Islam anymore? I’ll get back in my box!

Iranians are celebrating his death but there are several white western liberal types pretending to mourn, candle lit vigils etc. A few Islamists as well

Reportingfromwherever · 05/03/2026 07:01

This isn’t a goading post? OK….. but I’ll bite. I’m not Iranian but I know many, many through my work. Not one is mourning his death. They all hate teller regime with a passion. That’s generally why they are in the UK and fled Iran.

dancingredshoes · 05/03/2026 07:03

@Reportingfromwhereveri know the majority of Iranians aren’t mourning him! I’m talking about the people that are that probably aren’t Iranian!

Who is mourning his death?

Do you not watch the news?

dancingredshoes · 05/03/2026 07:06

@BeAvidHikerthanks for your response. This is the logic in my head!

I’m not talking about Iranians, British Muslims.etc etc I’m talking about people who choose to mourn a man hideous, repressive man… (I don’t care if they are white, red or purple) my point is if you celebrate such extreme views you must hate everything about the U.K.

Notice all the faux, wide eyed ignorance and surprise on this thread.

‘Oh we don’t know what you’re talking about’

‘No one ever supports foreign despots in this country’

‘There is simply no problem such as the one you’re describing’

The gaslighting just doesn’t work anymore. Everyone can see wha actually happens.

Who is mourning his death?

There are several vigils/protests planned for this weekend to mourn his death.

I think many people who say this are racist.

The many Iranians I know are all fully integrated in society. They are living in ghetto, they are working, contributing to society, speaking language etc. How many do you know?

dancingredshoes · 05/03/2026 07:08

@Reportingfromwhereverasking a question is not goading. I also have Iranian friends. But saw there were mourners for this man and I wonder why they choose to live here- sorry if I didn’t make it clear that I didn’t mean Iranian people.

You made it very clear that you meant Iranian people because you quite explicitly asked why there is an Iranian embassy in the UK. There is no point trying to backpedal.
I can't answer for the mourners but I can help with the embassy question. Embassies are there to manage (among other things) diplomatic relationships between countries. Diplomacy doesn't mean both countries need to have similar views. On the contrary, diplomacy is most important between countries who hold opposing views so that we can come to a peaceful resolutions instead of dropping bombs on each other every five minutes.

Puzzled89 · 05/03/2026 08:10

It could be because Trump did it, so many people have TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome so they don't think rationally in relation to him, my own parents have it. Trump could find a cure for cancer and the lefties would still despise him and find a way to criticize him.

dancingredshoes · 05/03/2026 08:11

@Catzathen I’m really sorry if it read like that as it wasn’t my intention and maybe ignorance on my part! Essentially my thinking was the embassy will be run by IR, and it has been made clear over the years and especially now that there are hundreds of terrorist threats from the IR all the time, but as your rightly point out by that logic it’s the same with China etc. I did not mean that, so I apologise.

Right. And the OP 'just asking a question of Islamic extremists' on MN isn't at all 'faux innocent' then? The OP knows full well that the individuals she may have seen in the media are not going to be here on MN this morning popping in to explain their support of Iranian dictatorship. She wants to spread a narrative that Muslim people in the UK are supportive of Islamic extremists.
We all know that there are people in the UK who hold all sorts of extreme views. Moderate people do not typically understand why they hold them. As for why they live in the UK while holding views that don't align with our society, I guess its the same as the right wing racists and white supremacists who continue to live here despite it being an ethnically diverse and multi cultural society.

First sensible thing you have said.

Who are these people "mourning" him? I know of none.
