Would you go to Disney world Orlando this year? We were considering booking for us and our 2 children, was meant to book it tonight.
I’m really unsure with the current condition of the world right now.
what would you do?

OP posts:
Maddy70 · 03/03/2026 15:13

No. But nothing to do with the war I won't return as it's not safe with trump in charge.

WouldYouCrossDryDeserts · 03/03/2026 15:17

Yes I would. We are visiting friends in the US for 4 weeks in the summer and can’t wait. We go to the US every other year as there is so much to see and do. We did Disney years ago with our children and it was good fun. Go and enjoy.

VerinMathwin · 03/03/2026 15:30

Yes. Went there last summer for two weeks, absolutely no issues, children loved it. Would happily go again tomorrow.

FrostyPalms · 03/03/2026 15:34

It depends on why you are considering not going. I live in Florida and have for many years and feel completely safe during my day to day life. (Admittedly I am white so my perspective might be different if I was a person of color. You didn't say whether you are, OP.) If the reason you are considering not coming is for safety reasons, nothing has changed here in the past week.

If it's to protest the government and the president, I can totally respect that. I have been to several protests here in Florida myself.

MrsKeats · 03/03/2026 15:36

Absolutely not.

AutumnLover1990 · 03/03/2026 15:58

NYC in November 😃

busybusybusy2015 · 03/03/2026 16:17

It's not "Trump" in the abstract that worries me, it's the 77,000,000 people who voted for him. That's who you'll be giving your money to: people who believe in American exceptionalism and that what the administration is doing to their country, and the world, is absolutely right. That's who repels me: the average American who doesn't realise that voting for Trump was inexcusable. It's all their fault. Have you thought of Denmark?: Legoland, plus the great amusement parks in Copenhagen, plus lovely beaches.

mondaytosunday · 03/03/2026 02:10

Yes I’m going in about three weeks. I grew up there and my sisters and niece are there and we will be visiting them. It’s a major city but I’m not worried I’m going to be shot. I do not support Trump but I’m not going to let him stop seeing my family. Life continues.
However I have been to Disney World and not sure it’s worth it, and Florida is not anything to write home about. Some people love it though.

I'm always confused about the Florida trips, also. I'm an American in the US and Orlando in particular is definitely not the best we have to offer for a vacation destination.

CheddarPilgrim · 03/03/2026 16:26

Absolutely not. I decided this the day Trump was elected.

Giddykiddy · 03/03/2026 17:13

I won't go to the States while Trump is in power

Ace56 · 03/03/2026 17:34

To all those saying it’s ’not safe’ - why exactly? If you’re talking about public shootings, these have not massively increased in recent years - in fact they have been decreasing since Covid. If you’re talking about ICE/immigration stuff - this will not affect you as a British citizen on a tourist visa, who clearly has hotels booked/a return flight home/not dodgy in any way.

If your reasons for not wanting to go are simply in protest to Trump, then crack on but it’s really not going to affect anything.

That is one person in millions and her husband didn't have a valid ESTA to get back into America after visiting Canada. Yes, she shouldn't have been detained and it's awful and scary but the chance of it happening to anyone again is minute.

Do you want to go to a country that treats visitors like that? His ESTA had expired (due to a mixup) -in their mid-60's and white. Spent 6 weeks in ICE detention.

‘Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: the UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeks

Karen Newton was in America on the trip of a lifetime when she was shackled, transported and held for weeks on end. With tourism to the US under increasing strain, she says, ‘If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone’

That has already been debunked. She had multiple visa violations previously.

FMSucks · 03/03/2026 18:30

Yes! Going in June but I holiday in the States most years. Absolutely love the USA

These minor administrative violations warrants 6 weeks in detention? There are no doors around the toilets. They take your phone. Did you read the whole story about how poorly she was treated? I would not want to travel to a country that treats visitors like that.

She is a criminal, and was treated as such.
Don’t violate foreign countries rules.
It’s not difficult.

That's if you believe an unsubstantiated tweet from DHS, who have frequently posted outright lies on X.

GrannyMacFanny · 03/03/2026 20:39

Yes we are going in 2 months!!!! So excited

I do think its deeply unpatriotic for a British person to visit the US.

They were willing to go to war over Greenland (before buckling due to the EU's threats), are leveraging their economic clout against the UK, have made very clear their unwillingness to defend the UK/Europe - despite the UK having duly supported the US several times, and have repeatedly denigrated the sacrifices of British troops who have given their lives or suffered horrendous injuries while doing so.

Needlessly giving money to a country that's becoming increasingly adversarial to our interests, and whose power comes from its economy, just seems really scummy.

Thoroughly agree. Trump has desecrated any notion of law or the constitution and is dragging the US essentially into the gutter with his deranged actions. It/he has become a cult now and very uncomfortable to watch. These events will not play out well with hindsight and history once he’s (hopefully soon) gone, but I think it’s in everyone’s interests (well any rational person’s interest) to distance themselves from this car crash administration.

Us tourism figures are plummeting. US stocks and currency is down. Go figure.

Who would want to go anywhere near something like he’s created…
Certainly not me until they see sense.

Offherrockingchair · 03/03/2026 21:15

No and we lived there for years, DC dual citizens. Had a great time when Obama was
in the WH, wouldn’t go now.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 03/03/2026 21:18

Yes. Been once already and off again later in the year. People need to stop panicking.

No. Holidays are supposed to be looked forward to with excitement and anticipation. I would not be able to do that with the US.

This. For so many reasons I couldn’t go at the moment but mainly because of Trump and his politics.
