Would you go to Disney world Orlando this year? We were considering booking for us and our 2 children, was meant to book it tonight.
I’m really unsure with the current condition of the world right now.
what would you do?

It's not all about scaremongering though is it.

Many on this thread and myself included would not go to the US on the basis of not giving tourism money as someone upthread called it to the country while Trump is in power.

I used to go every year, I will not go back until he is gone.

I don't like Trump either. Neither does my American partner but I won't be letting that prevent me from living my life and exploring America.

These replies sound unhinged as if written from people in onesies who don't go further than Tescos anyway when they do the" big shop" . Get more informed replies if you asked them about AI holidays in Turkey preferably with water parks and beige food for the kids.

Just go , have a great time.

Yes, I imagine a lot of the people who state they would never go, wouldn't be going anyway.

Are you British? If so, read this:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/21/karen-newton-valid-visa-detained-ice

I live 20 km from the USA and won't go there. I don't know anyone that does. Referring to us as the 51st state. Charging tariffs just to punish us for no reason. Jackass! Why would anyone want to go to the USA?

That is one person in millions and her husband didn't have a valid ESTA to get back into America after visiting Canada. Yes, she shouldn't have been detained and it's awful and scary but the chance of it happening to anyone again is minute.

Whammyammy · 03/03/2026 08:28

I have been to the US three times already this year (Florida, Arizona and Indiana) and have 5 more trips this year booked.
Ive see no reason to not travel.

if you’re travelling from the UK that’s a lot of long haul travel. Environmental impact not a reason either for you then?

Not until Trump is gone

go to Paris or Tokyo instead

But on the flip side, a lot of Americans who would traditionally go abroad are now holidaying domestically. Rentals in the Jersey Shore, as an example of somewhere that had a lot of Canadian tourism, are flying.

22% of Americans are travelling abroad as an increase from 2019 (before Covid).

As another anecdote- I know many Canadians selling their winter homes in Florida. About half a million Canadians own homes there and 54% have sold or are selling this year.

30% less travel to the shore by Canadians and overall there will be a downfall of 2.1 billion so Americans are filling that hole but not completely.

So not really a flip side if you look at the facts.

I don't use many as rarely eat USFs. I did stop using amazon though. I have done several.boycotts before (South Africa the first).
I also avoid countries with terrible human rights and dictators. Many other places to go.

You haven’t stopped using Amazon. The mumsnet site is hosted by AWS, which is Amazon Web Services.

Greenwitchart · 03/03/2026 09:26

No. I lived in the US for a couple of years and love the country but I would never travel there while Trump is in charge.

Yes, I imagine a lot of the people who state they would never go, wouldn't be going anyway.

I have found that in real life. A virtue signalling relative told another relative who is going on holiday to the US, that they shouldn’t be going and that they won’t be going themselves to the US until Trump is gone. The funny thing is this relative hasn’t been more than 20 miles from home for about 30 years and has never been abroad. 🙄

Anyway, yes I’d go OP. We did a US road trip last year and it was amazing.

lllamaDrama · 03/03/2026 09:35

No. We went last year. It was fine, but I wouldn’t go again. DD wanted to go NYC for her 16th but we’ll find something else!

The more people speaking up about not going to the USA, the better.
Even if they weren't actually going to go, talking about it might make someone else think twice about where they spend their money.

I would go to Canada or another Disney this year - the USA will hopefully still be there long after Trump goes.

I'm not too worried about that.I'm a terrible headonist, very much lead a ridiculously full life. But just try to do it, making the world a better place where possible. And not adding to the misery.

Interesting. I guess some peoples principles don’t extend to stopping using mumsnet who use Amazon, as they seem to have ignored your post. It wouldn’t be hard to not use mumsnet, it’s not an essential service, so why would anyone who has these principles continue to use it when they want to boycott Amazon? I suppose the excuses will commence.

Will people stop using mumsnet now they know this if they feel so strongly? 🤔

Had thought about taking the teen to NY but scrapped that idea when the orange man returned to the White House. So no, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.
I don’t think I’m alone in this either, never seen so many ads for US tourism, and it’s definitely not an algorithm because I haven’t been looking to go.
Lots of football fans I know who’d ordinarily attend are skipping the World Cup too.

Edited

We are not skipping the World Cup due to Trump. Myself and friends who have traveled and watched England at tournaments for over 30 years are not going because of the prices. FIFA have set prices in line with other sporting events in the US, which is totally out of the price range of normal fans. I have been at the last 2 Euro finals and paid around £95 for my ticket. The cheapest ticket for the WC in the US is £3k.

Add to that the astronomical cost of accommodation and internal flights and we just can’t justify going.

There are 2 warm up games between 4th and 9th June in South Florida and a lot of us are planning to go to those instead.

I can’t stand Trump, but our gripe over the WC is with FIFA.

cupfinalchaos · 03/03/2026 13:39

Yes of course. What do you think is going to happen to you?

Haha, I’ve travelled to every continent on Earth except Antarctica, and that’s on my list.
The US really isn’t all that.

Perfection is the enemy of good. I don't buy anything on Amazon, I won't travel to the US (even though my travel budget is high) including transiting, I check labels, I have changed my phone from Apple to Samsung, Apple Music to Spotify and a hundred other things.

I've just paid my MN subscription so boycotting at this point will make no difference.

And I'm doing more than nothing. More than nothing is better than nothing. Not perfect, but better.

And could people stop talking about the 'magic' of Disney. Watching people wander around a park holding fatty carbs, sweating and queuing for rides getting 'Disney rash' isn't magical. I know people who can trace their divorce back to disastrous holidays there where the expectation of 'magic' and the reality didn't watch and they fought the whole time. There are magical places in the world. From Guatemala to Vietnam. Venice in the winter. Go to one of them.

Bonkers1966 · 03/03/2026 14:57

No. Had to faithfully promise a friend I would not go to the US for birthday due to horror stories. Plus I have an Irish passport. Not sure if that makes a difference.

It’s an excuse because people want to use mumsnet. They could easily not as it’s not essential as a pp said. It’s not about being perfect, but surely people would boycott the really easy stuff if they felt strongly and it’s super easy to boycott a forum like mumsnet. I can respect strong principles even if I don’t agree, but when someone won’t even stop using mumsnet, it’s nothing more than virtue signalling. Maybe the pp will give up mumsnet now she knows about AWS though, Tbf, they haven’t come back and replied. Maybe they’ve decided to boycott now they know and if so, fair play.

Also, who the fuck is anyone to tell someone else to go somewhere else on holiday. Disney isn’t somewhere I like, but others love it. As for tracing divorce back to Disney….😅. If your relationship is good, you will be good anywhere.

SabrinaThwaite · 03/03/2026 15:09

Where do you draw the line at not using companies or organisations using AWS? You don’t have any choice if you want to bank online or submit your tax return to HMRC online.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/03/2026 15:09

Also, who the fuck is anyone to tell someone else to go somewhere else on holiday.

Someone who has been both to Disney, and other places? I mean I'm not making them but suggesting that there are other places is allowed, surely.

I can respect strong principles even if I don’t agree Do you not agree? Do you think Trump's America is great and not a problem? Do you think war-mongering, corrupt rapists should be in charge of the world? I mean, it's a choice I suppose.
