Would you go to Disney world Orlando this year? We were considering booking for us and our 2 children, was meant to book it tonight.
I’m really unsure with the current condition of the world right now.
what would you do?

Agreed. The hysteria is bonkers

No panic or hysterics. Are you on a different thread?

Lincslady53 · 03/03/2026 22:42

We were considering Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans, but one DT started f ing about with tariffs, I thought, no, they are not having my money. Hopefully. We will still be fit enough when they see sense and vote in a decent Pres, till then f em.

She is a criminal, and was treated as such.
Don’t violate foreign countries rules.
It’s not difficult.

Overstaying a visa (or whatever is not a criminal matter.

Besides, don't alleged criminals have to go before a court so that the accusations can be proven before they are imprisoned? That's what happens in civilised countries anyway...

HRTQueen · 04/03/2026 10:25

Yes and I shall be

Its a country where there are areas I would not go to but that’s not new

life for the vast majority of Americans is carrying on as normal

KatiePricesKnickers · 04/03/2026 17:53

@DdraigGoch ’Overstaying a visa (or whatever is not a criminal matter.’

Really?
”If an individual overstays a visa (or otherwise fails to comply with the conditions of a visa) for 10 days or more, on first offense the individual shall be subject to fines or imprisonment for up to six months, or both. For subsequent violations, the individual shall be subject to fines or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.”

@DdraigGoch ’Besides, don't alleged criminals have to go before a court so that the accusations can be proven before they are imprisoned?’

She wasn’t imprisoned, she was remanded in custody until they could deal with her.

Ah, sorry. It's entering the country that is a civil matter. Regardless locking her up is grossly disproportionate and the conditions in these detention facilities are utterly inhumane.

Was she remanded by a court then? You know, was her detention reviewed by a judge in accordance with her habeas corpus constitutional rights?

TheEllisGreyMethod · 05/03/2026 12:28

We're a mixed race family, it's not a position I will be putting my kids in.

19lottie82 · 05/03/2026 12:29

Yes, we are going to Orlando in June.

JHound · 05/03/2026 12:32

Not with Trump there - or more importantly his regime and the support it has.

Also I cannot be arsed with the fear of all the weird border hassle and stories we are hearing.

Maybe when it’s calmer and less openly hostile to the UK.

And if I was going to visit it would only be to blue states or because I had to go for work.

2thumbs · 05/03/2026 12:36

If you’re white and your social media is fairly benign wrt political issues, there shouldn’t be an issue for you

Marlaysydney12 · 05/03/2026 13:09

I wouldn't go. I would rather spend my tourist $ somewhere else. Also guns, ice and bad coffee.

I'd go to Paris, Disneyland Paris and here https://www.puydufou.com/france/en/must-see-france. This place blew my mind as a kid!

I think they have a huge number of people entering the country illegally and everyone is treated the same regardless of whether they are British or not. I agree it sounds awful and disproportionate but the rules are the same for everyone and not difficult to follow.

Just wondering, were you around for the SA apartheid boycott?

Edited

SA was a much smaller economy, and the boycott affected people with a stake in it, plus sports people and other prominent /elite groups.

None of that applies to the US.

Some provocative language there. Trump has a ‘regime’, not a government, and supposedly they are now ‘hostile’ to the UK?

The US Constitution is the same for everyone on US soil, yet the current admin are being extremely selective with it at the moment.

The problem is that 'government' is a tad absent to say the least. The strikes/war on Iran hasn't gone through congress, the Department of Justice keeps flip flopping as soon as DJT complains, he rules by decree (executive orders all the time)... so I am really struggling to see much 'government' apart from the President himself. What defines a democracy is checks and balances, making sure that the executive branch are kept accountable. It's abundantly clear that the concept is of no interest to Trump. For him, the rule of law is only about what he 'feels' and his 'own morality'. As someone who used to travel to the US very regularly for the last decades until very recently, I wish none of that were the case but this is where we are.

How is it provocative? It's used for other regimes all across the planet. And his complete disregard for law within his own country is fitting.

And I think you would have to be deaf and blind not to think the Trump regime is hostile to the UK.

Goditsmemargaret · 05/03/2026 15:19

I am sure the apartheid regime never noticed my mother's individual boycott of their products but she still did it. The Greek restaurant near my old house never noticed my one-woman boycott due to their sexist HR policies but I still refused to go there. Sometimes boycotts are simply about people's own moral values even if they don't think they have the mass to effect real change.

Kyogo67 · 05/03/2026 15:34

I will not returning to US for holidays until he is gone. I doubt they would let me in anyway given my social media is full of support for Palestine etc and very anti Trump and Israel .

If OP is lucky she might bump into Truss in Florida. The lettuce has been seen in Mar-a-lago.

Lettuce 😂 not heard that as an insult for years. I'm going to use that one 👌

likelysuspect · 05/03/2026 17:58

No I wouldnt

I thought I read that visitor numbers were down for the US although its not clear if that is a political decision by visitors or other reasons

Im not keen to visit Canada anymore either after their position on women.

NotDarkGothicMama · 05/03/2026 17:58

I wouldn't go, no. It's probably quite safe in Orlando but I just don't want to give them my money. I'd also be worried about them putting me on the first flight back to Blighty if they're serious about the social media checks: my views on the orange one aren't exactly hidden!

PinkCatCushion · 02/03/2026 22:53

It’s a bit like I wouldn’t go to Dubai or China as I don’t like their human rights record. Why would I give them any tourist income?
Plus I really wouldn’t feel safe in America.

Edited

I’m over there at the moment, it’s completely normal and no different to other years. I went a couple of times last year to three different states and thought the same thing.
