I cancelled one April last year same reasons. Rebooked for turkey had fab time. Apparently pilots could see rockets as they were landing in Cyprus!

ThatThisThatYou · 28/02/2026 16:22

That’s weeks away! I’d just sit tight for now

BMW6 · 28/02/2026 16:22

No! Wait and see!

Sassylovesbooks · 28/02/2026 16:23

No. Just wait and see.

Thechaseison71 · 28/02/2026 16:24

Id nor even consider cancelling. Just why? Months away yet and anything could happen

BrentfordForever · 28/02/2026 16:25

Going to Cyprus too and no not cancelling

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 28/02/2026 16:27

If you cancel you will lose your money.
Just wait.
If the FCO put out advice advising against non-essential travel the company will refund you.

whiteroseredrose · 28/02/2026 16:28

Yikes. I’m going to Jordan in a few weeks and am not planning on cancelling.

Happywalnut · 28/02/2026 16:28

No. We went last year when the bombs could be seen flying across to each other but it was fine (for us). We didn’t see any bombs and had a lovely holiday. Cyprus is gorgeous

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/02/2026 16:28

It's the best part of 1200 miles from Cyprus to Tehran. Do you expect somebody to avoid travelling to Leicester from Newcastle because there's a volcano erupting outside Reykjavik or problems with rush hour traffic in Moscow?

It's about 240 to Israel (please try and use autocorrect if you aren't able to spell the country's name). Best cancel that Leicester visit if Plymouth Argyle are playing at home and getting a bit rowdy next week, too.

Pollqueen · 28/02/2026 16:29

Ridiculous

PurpleLovecats · 28/02/2026 16:32

Nah don’t be daft. I remember last year people were posting on here cancelling trips to Cyprus and my daughter was out there merrily sending me pictures and it was fine!

if it is unsafe to go, they’ll let you know.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/02/2026 16:35

Sit tight and wait. If needed, travel guidance will come out for the govt.

TwistedWonder · 28/02/2026 16:35

My brother flew out to Cyprus yesterday - I’m sure he’ll not be devastated if he’s stuck out there fur a few weeks in the sun

It isn't just about distance though, Cyprus is a strategic base and could become a target itself. That said, I would hold on and see where this ends. Travel advice will be updated as and when it is necessary.

I think that the OP was thinking in terms of military bases being a target.
I don't agree with cancelling unless advised to do so.

There is a us base there aswell as British isn’t there ? My mum was in Cyprus last year and saw the missiles, she thought they were fireworks 😆

How dreadful. I definitely couldn't relax seeing a deadly missile fly across the sky knowing it is probably destined to kill and injure people.

Notsosweetcaroline · 28/02/2026 16:46

If 1200 miles is too close for you how far away do you need to be? Genuinely curious, if you’re worried ask if you can switch destinations, but work out how far away you both need to be. Then look at those locations

uk for example is 2700 miles away, and if Cyprus is 1200. Then I guess it’s either go long haul or some where closer to home?

KitKat1985 · 28/02/2026 16:47

We went to Cyprus went about 18 months ago when the Gaza conflict was quite intense. We saw some military helicopters but other than that our holiday continued as normal and we had a lovely time.

We're due to fly out to Cyprus again in April for the Easter hols. My plan at this point is to go unless things escalate in the coming months and foreign office advice on travel to Cyprus changes.

Yiayoula · 28/02/2026 16:49

We’re going out for GE Easter to stay with family - certainly no plans to cancel yet.
Hopefully the orange idiot will be over his tantrum by then.

Wishmyhousewasbigger · 28/02/2026 16:50

Going in mid April, DH says it will be over by then, hope he's right!

Cyprus has a number of UK bases, staff of whom are on full alert, highest level.

I'd be at least thinking about plan B

Echobelly · 28/02/2026 16:51

Seems daft to cancel to me, I doubt anyone is going to be accidentally bombing Cyprus, seeing as it's quite clearly not the mainland.
