I cancelled one April last year same reasons. Rebooked for turkey had fab time. Apparently pilots could see rockets as they were landing in Cyprus!

The rockets would have been those fired by Iran towards Israel, hundreds of miles to the east. No rockets were launched at Cyprus.

There’s no reason for Cyprus to be a target anyway, there are no US bases there, and the UK hasn’t joined in the attacks.

Besides, even if Iran could attack Cyprus and chose to do so - which I won’t - it wouldn’’t be able to into summer.

Yoo’re seriously more likely to get killed in a car crash tomorrow than by an Iranian missile hitting you in a Cypriot holiday resort in the summer.

Itsmetheflamingo · 28/02/2026 17:34

Cyprus has always had army bases and you booked knowing that- do you think Iran l might try and attack a US base as I think that’s mad talk. They’ve got no chance.

I wouldn’t cancel either it wouldn’t even occur to me

AtomicBlondeRose · 28/02/2026 17:35

Iran are already attacking US bases all over the Middle East! However I don’t think they’d be likely to aim at Cryprus.

Twodogsonthecouch · 28/02/2026 17:06

Me too. And going on to mount Sinai. I’m not cancelling yet anyway. Going on 28th March so we’ll see

We’re going on 11th April. Please let me know how you get on. I have wanted to go to Petra for decades.

Yes, Iran are trying to attack US military bases… they might be able to do that for a few days, a few weeks at most… But Cyprus doesn’t have a US military base!

All this worry is ridiculous! It’s almost as absurd as those people who were worried the Argentinians would be marching down their street after they invaded the Falklands in 1982.

OP - Are you generally an extremely anxious person who is prone to excessive catastrophising?

whiteroseredrose · 28/02/2026 16:28

Yikes. I’m going to Jordan in a few weeks and am not planning on cancelling.

So am I. Are you going for Easter?

No. Just after Easter. I’m hoping it will all be over quickly. Selfish I suppose.

Echobelly · 28/02/2026 16:51

Seems daft to cancel to me, I doubt anyone is going to be accidentally bombing Cyprus, seeing as it's quite clearly not the mainland.

If it’s bombed, I expect it’ll be on purpose to target the military bases - not accidentally.

I actually hadn’t considered it until dh mentioned it. It’s always wise to have a plan b though. Call me anxious all you like, it’s still a little close for comfort for my liking !

How dreadful. I definitely couldn't relax seeing a deadly missile fly across the sky knowing it is probably destined to kill and injure people.

exactly That I couldn’t relax knowing what I am seeing over my sunbed is killing masses let alone putting my family in danger

Notsosweetcaroline · 28/02/2026 16:46

If 1200 miles is too close for you how far away do you need to be? Genuinely curious, if you’re worried ask if you can switch destinations, but work out how far away you both need to be. Then look at those locations

uk for example is 2700 miles away, and if Cyprus is 1200. Then I guess it’s either go long haul or some where closer to home?

Gaza where the retaliation will happen is 200 miles away

For goodness sake. The dramatics are ridiculous.

Best , cancel your holiday.

MMBaranova · 28/02/2026 19:24

Cyprus and spill-over incidents from Iran-Israel conflict?

I'd say unlikely but. The but is that things have been changing.

The EU declared the Iranian Revolutionary Guards a terror organisations so in retaliation Iran said 'no, you are' to EU military entities.

Article from last Sunday from a Cypriot source:

Cyprus’ air force, navy declared terrorist organisations by Iran | Cyprus Mail

Cyprus’ air force, navy declared terrorist organisations by Iran

Cyprus’ air force and navy were both declared terrorist organisations by the Iranian government late on Saturday night, with the Iranian government declaring the air force and navy of every European Union member state a terrorist organisation in retali...

Jordan is epic especially Petra. It’s such a civilised place. Plus Arabs don’t usually aim for other Arabs. I’d be happier to go to Jordan or any other Arab nation than Cyprus. In fact I’ve been in Middle East more lately than Cyprus

MMBaranova · 28/02/2026 19:30

But then if we rewind even further to last year's events, this Israeli source from last summer asks how long Cyprus can 'stay out of the fray'? Reason: Cyprus has 'emerged as central logistical hub for Israel'.

Source is INSS at Tel Aviv University.

How Long Can Cyprus Stay Out of the Fray? | INSS

So, would I cancel? No. But I would monitor the situation. It is unclear what is going on and first will come some clarity and then an indication of how long this conflict plays out.

[Edit typing: Cyrus replaced by Cyprus. Too much Persian history reading.]

How Long Can Cyprus Stay Out of the Fray? | INSS

Since the escalation with Iran, Cyprus has emerged as central logistical hub for Israel. Just hours after Israel’s strike on Iran, it was reported that Israeli airlines evacuated their aircraft to Cyprus, Greece, and other destinations as part of a pre...

Just hang tight, if you’ve got insurance it should pay out if FCDO advice changes.

I can’t believe how incredibly blasé everybody here is - I love Cyprus, have been there many times, but would definitely consider cancelling.

LorettaYoung · 01/03/2026 01:33

I would certainly cancel OP. Do posters here not understand the gravity of this situation?

And yes they have bases there. We once got lost and started driving into one. The military soon turned us around, was quite scary. Cancel and reconsider later in the year, or book elsewhere if you can.

Because they don’t have a US base?
