You’d be mad to cancel.

MissingSockDetective · 28/02/2026 16:52

Shittyyear2025 · 28/02/2026 16:51

Cyprus has a number of UK bases, staff of whom are on full alert, highest level.

I'd be at least thinking about plan B

Yes this. It isn't the distance that matters.

liveforsummer · 28/02/2026 16:53

Cyprus has lived through years of similar conflict. You’ll be fine - they will stop travel if needed

RheaRhanged · 28/02/2026 17:01

We’re meant to be going to Dubai in Easter Holiday’s, obviously that is now unsure

Yikes. I’m going to Jordan in a few weeks and am not planning on cancelling.

I'm meant to be going to the Maldives via Abu Dhabi in 4 days. I'm thinking that won't be happening.

Me too. And going on to mount Sinai. I’m not cancelling yet anyway. Going on 28th March so we’ll see

hazelnutvanillalatte · 28/02/2026 17:06

Friend has a work trip next week to Cyprus - not cancelled, no warnings
Are there any official warnings about travelling there?

ScaredOfFlying · 28/02/2026 17:06

Echobelly · 28/02/2026 16:51

Seems daft to cancel to me, I doubt anyone is going to be accidentally bombing Cyprus, seeing as it's quite clearly not the mainland.

oh dear. Embarrassed for you.

That doesn"t help though if you are already there?

I'm jealous. I always wanted to go to Jordan.

I went to Abu Dhabi a couple of days after 9/11. It was oddly fascinating, as nobody knew what was going to happen. The plane had five passengers, as everyone else cancelled.

notabingthing · 28/02/2026 17:10

Obviously we’re not going to cancel right now, we’ve got until the 20th March before the full balance is due. Just thinking I’m not sure if I want to be over that side of the world with all the conflict happening atm. We’ve been to Cyprus many times and love it there, but I’ve got little ones to think about aswell so it might be better to just go to Spain this time !

Wait and see.

How dreadful. I definitely couldn't relax seeing a deadly missile fly across the sky knowing it is probably destined to kill and injure people.

When she was told what it was I think it scared her a little! It’s one thing seeing the news but another in real life

If you are going to feel like you can't relax and you've only paid the deposit i would look into going somewhere else holidays are suppose to be enjoyable

notabingthing · 28/02/2026 16:42

There is a us base there aswell as British isn’t there ? My mum was in Cyprus last year and saw the missiles, she thought they were fireworks 😆

Yes there is and Trump mentioned this morning that it was in reach of Iran.

OhDear111 · 28/02/2026 17:14

I’d look at the Foreign Office advice. Wait for them.

Pigeonpoodle · 28/02/2026 17:16

You’re being ridiculously alarmist and completely overreacting. I’ve booked to go to Cyprus and am not concerned in the slightest.

AuditAngel · 28/02/2026 17:16

We are due in Cyprus after the Easter holidays. My insurance is up to date and we will wait for FCDO advice

Iran isn’t starting ww3 and starting to bomb Europe.

DarkForces · 28/02/2026 17:21

I'd have thought it was one of the safest places to go given the military bases.

DelinquentSnails · 28/02/2026 17:21

Cyprus?! My BIL is a travel writer and is currently visiting friends in Lebanon (he’s promised to come home in time for the war to start, but he probably won’t.) I think a middle ground between these two extremes would be to wait and see what the foreign office says the week before you are due to fly. I think it’s unlikely they’ll advise against travel there anyhow, but if they do at least you’ll be insured then.

DJSteves · 28/02/2026 17:25

I live in Saudi and the military are doing its thing here. Planning on going to Egypt end of March and hoping to go to the UK for Easter week as I have a fortnight off work. Hoping it blows over quickly like it did last summer. Business as usual here

Yes it must have been a bit of a shock, though probably better not knowing at the time in many ways.
