Valentine's meal deal...people have become so shameless.

AIBU to think that people have become shameless, selfish and greedy?

I noticed the Asda Valentine's meal for two offer earlier this week: starter, main, two sides, pudding, and a bottle of wine, all for £12 quid. Amazing deal really and a nice idea for a night in together.

Went back today to get it... Absolute hoards round the fridge, loading their trollies with multiples meals worth, everything times five or six... scrambling for all the best dishes. By the times I got to the fridge there was hardly anything left.

Am I being unreasonable, or have people always been like this?? I'd be embarrassed to do that, but no-one seemed to care.

I think people are just skint, tbh.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/02/2026 22:20

I’m surprised they allowed more than one meal deal per person.

AmethystDeceiver · 13/02/2026 22:21

Morrisons was £15 for the same offer, but no shoving and plenty of options in stock...guess it depends on where you are

XenoBitch · 13/02/2026 22:22

It is a good deal, and you can't really blame people for wanting to stock up.
But yep, it does feel a bit wrong when you know it is all going in a freezer and wont be used for its intended purpose (Valentines meal).

HeddaGarbled · 13/02/2026 22:22

Blimey, where do you live?

cestlavielife · 13/02/2026 22:24

Hilarious "intended purpose" !! people are allowed to buy meals labelled valentines and not be in a loved up couple
Is a great deal for pals or a family of six

ShetlandishMum · 13/02/2026 22:27

The shop could make the deal one oer custumer.
Tbh we would all be thrilled to stock 10 of those Valentines deals in 2026.

Wakemeupinapril · 13/02/2026 22:29

Maybe they are all cheating bastards??

fyllnadspenna · 13/02/2026 22:30

It does seem like poor planning for them not to have put a 'per customer' limit in place. People will be coming in for the deal, be annoyed they're sold out, and not bother to try another time.

Bradford, unfortunately.

Did you get one OP?

augustusglupe · 13/02/2026 22:33

It was abit like that in our M&S today. It was very busy, like Christmas… well except for all the lone men staring at the roses 😄

Fbfbfvfvv · 13/02/2026 22:34

People have always been greedy.
You only have to look in peoples trolleys in the run up to Christmas to know that! And during the height of the pandemic where people were stripping the supermarkets bare and filling their garages full of supplies!

I managed to get one together but ended up with two potato based sides to a potato-topped fish pie as they were the only sides left. Not ideal, but I'll do some veg myself.

Er, I deliberately avoided the Valentines branded stuff in M&S today, as I refuse to participate in such cynical "fleecing"! (And I happily eat ready meals). Nor do I want a heart-,shaped pizza, FFS.

WimbyAce · 13/02/2026 22:36

I got mine today from Morrisons, was actually surprised they had stock as Morrisons are useless usually. They were popular though by all accounts.

JaceLancs · 13/02/2026 22:38

I don’t understand!
DS and I went for the Waitrose meal deal £25 and the cocktail option was worth £15.50, but only bought one and we ate it last night! It was just a good deal 😊

I did wonder whether the COVID panic-buying might have normalised this behaviour a bit more.

Asda should limit it tbh

but when there’s a yellow sticker bonanza on meat, I do stock up. That’s the only reason I still go to Asda tbh

ive had defrosted mince from autumn last year for dinner today 🤷‍♀️

5foot5 · 13/02/2026 22:44

That is disappointing.

We bought the Sainsbury's Valentine's Day Meal today.

Actually tomorrow is our wedding anniversary and we were supposed to be going away for a few days and had booked a meal out in a nice restaurant. Unfortunately, circumstances have dictated that we can't now go away and have cancelled the meal so we wanted something nice but easy to prepare at home.

I was pleased with Sainsbury's deal: £18 for starter, main course, side, dessert and a bottle of wine. Not the evening we had originally envisaged but hopefully pleasant

They are, aren’t they?
I actually got 2 meal deals of because there are going to be 3 of us ( ☹️) and I wanted DD to have her own starter and desert.
It was busy and a few things were out but then shop assistant brought more.
Most people were older so I guess their kids flew the nest and one meal deal was enough for them. 😉

LadyCrustybread · 13/02/2026 22:47

Asda is a shop. They sell things. They don’t limit things because they want to sell them… they don’t care who buys them so long as they sell. Theyre not a charity and people can buy whatever they want.

Vodka1 · 13/02/2026 22:47

I think its because it was put on social media that asda were allowing people to buy 2 mains instead of the bottle of wine.

2 mains 2 sides and a pudding for £12 is insane these days

Belindabelle · 13/02/2026 22:48

I bough 3 Waitrose meal deals today. One for me and DH, one for DS1 and partner and one for DS2 and his partner. The 6 of us are together this weekend so it made sense as I would normally spend well in excess of £75 for Saturday night dinner for 6.
