Valentine's meal deal...people have become so shameless.

AIBU to think that people have become shameless, selfish and greedy?

I noticed the Asda Valentine's meal for two offer earlier this week: starter, main, two sides, pudding, and a bottle of wine, all for £12 quid. Amazing deal really and a nice idea for a night in together.

Went back today to get it... Absolute hoards round the fridge, loading their trollies with multiples meals worth, everything times five or six... scrambling for all the best dishes. By the times I got to the fridge there was hardly anything left.

Am I being unreasonable, or have people always been like this?? I'd be embarrassed to do that, but no-one seemed to care.

Have people always been like this?

You mean, selfish? Yes, look at the state of the supermarket during lockdown. Or.. at Xmas with their trollies full to the brim and a supermarket closed for a day, two max.

I was in m&s today at 8am and the woman next to to me was kicking off that she couldn’t buy her meal with wine at that time.

The staff member deserved a medal for being so polite to her

If that happened in Scotland he would of been welded over the heid with that bottle of prosecco 😆 🤣 nae joke

It’s all over priced precessed food. I bought food for tomorrow, main plus sides and dessert and it cost £13 but it’s far more food and nothing is processed as I’ll cook it myself (salmon en croute, hairy bikers recipe if anyone is looking for inspiration, it’s delicious, made it before but I use less salmon for 2 people obviously) if you want processed foods you can’t then moan other people bought them first

This - its low quality upf ready meals designed as a low cost valentines treat to get people to go back to asda for their weekly shop, if we had the time and the cooking skills (sadly i don't) to cook from scratch then I'm sure its possible to come up with a far better tasting meal and side/drink for the same price.

Largecatlover · 13/02/2026 23:29

The deal in my Asda was not processed ready meals it was great cook from scratch foods. Prawns in breadcrumbs, rump steaks, garlic new potatoes and chantenay carrots. The pudding was a processed sticky toffee pudding admittedly. Really enjoyed it. So went back and bought it again!

Besidemyselfwithworry · 13/02/2026 23:35

I don’t mind saying I bought 3 Asda meal deals as we have 3 kids and 2 guests this Sunday so it will feed everyone for under £40 for a good meal - why on earth wouldn’t you do that it’s great value!

Boo fucking hoo my partner just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and likely wont make next valentine

yes i am harsh but please stop wasting your time worrying annd moaning about this shit

I would like to think that if my partner had just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour I would not EVER use it as an excuse to make a post trying to belittle someone on MumsNet.

And that if I did, that I would apologise.

Ha, yes peak MN that. Like when no one was allowed to complain about anything ever because there was a war in Ukraine.

M&S by me today was HELL. Couldn’t get anywhere near the dine in’s. It was carnage in there. I picked up my cookies and left 🤣 we’ll have a valentines meal another day!

FFS. Really @Haffiana???

Let's hope you never find out then.

What a fucking post.

StrangePond · 13/02/2026 23:52

Clearly they’re all in polyamorous relationships with people who like readymeals?

Maybe they are all Mormons? I have heard that the Church of LSD is on the rise in Britain.

People are allowed to sweat the small stuff without someone barrelling in with big issues.

Morepositivemum · 14/02/2026 00:05

I do hate when people get properly out of control and all start grabbing for stuff- that would bother me more than it not going to who they advertise it for but I how get it would be very annoying if that’s what you wanted it for

JustCabbaggeLooking · 14/02/2026 00:06

XenoBitch · 13/02/2026 22:22

It is a good deal, and you can't really blame people for wanting to stock up.
But yep, it does feel a bit wrong when you know it is all going in a freezer and wont be used for its intended purpose (Valentines meal).

"intended purpose" 😂

XenoBitch · 14/02/2026 00:08

JustCabbaggeLooking · 14/02/2026 00:06

"intended purpose" 😂

I am cringing at myself too, but that is how my brain work. Shops says it is for Valentines, so it is for Valentines. But I restrict myself to that, not other people.
Go grab a bargain 😁

my heartfelt apology then , i pray the OP

MouldyCandy · 14/02/2026 00:12

I got one delivered - and yes, Asda got another £60 out of me because I did a grocery shop there too (normally shop at Lidl, sometimes Morrisons). I didn't think to buy two! Looks nice. DH drank the red wine tonight and said it was nice.

JustCabbaggeLooking · 14/02/2026 00:13

Firefly1987 · 13/02/2026 23:07

Yep people are selfish and out for as much as they can get. I have a moral dilemma every time there's just one item left on a shelf over whether I should get it or not. No one else ever gives a fuck 😆can completely believe that 99% of people would just take advantage of this offer.

"moral dilemma' oh please! 😂

SALaw · 13/02/2026 23:10

I’d say this is very ideal. What vegetables are better than potatoes?! Potatoes 3 ways is the dream.

Tatties rule!

JustCabbaggeLooking · 14/02/2026 00:17

ifonlyitwasreal · 13/02/2026 23:11

Who wants a ready meal for a treat dinner? They’re all horrible and taste of salt.

I agree with this apart from the salt bit.

JustCabbaggeLooking · 14/02/2026 00:18

XenoBitch · 13/02/2026 23:12

Your stomach thinks all potato is mashed anyway 😆

Your mouth doesn't though.

ParmaVioletTea · 14/02/2026 00:18

If it’s a good deal, why shouldn’t people buy it?

After all, you wanted to buy it.

My love to you. My DH is terminally ill as well. I think perhaps it just gives you a different outlook on things.

Is it new for you? I remember being really angry when he was first diagnosed, now I’m a bit more, well I don’t know the right word….. not chilled or relaxed. Accepting maybe? Oh I don’t know really. Just I’m thinking of you xxx
