Valentine's meal deal...people have become so shameless.

AIBU to think that people have become shameless, selfish and greedy?

I noticed the Asda Valentine's meal for two offer earlier this week: starter, main, two sides, pudding, and a bottle of wine, all for £12 quid. Amazing deal really and a nice idea for a night in together.

Went back today to get it... Absolute hoards round the fridge, loading their trollies with multiples meals worth, everything times five or six... scrambling for all the best dishes. By the times I got to the fridge there was hardly anything left.

Am I being unreasonable, or have people always been like this?? I'd be embarrassed to do that, but no-one seemed to care.

The deal in my Asda was not processed ready meals it was great cook from scratch foods. Prawns in breadcrumbs, rump steaks, garlic new potatoes and chantenay carrots. The pudding was a processed sticky toffee pudding admittedly. Really enjoyed it. So went back and bought it again!

Hinny, that's not cook from scratch. But you enjoyed it, could afford it, and that's what matters.

ParmaVioletTea · 14/02/2026 00:21

Although I don’t know why people see ready meals as a treat. Quite the reverse in my view. Never well cooked & always over flavoured and just disappointing, compared with what I can cook.

It was abit like that in our M&S today. It was very busy, like Christmas… well except for all the lone men staring at the roses 😄

Sounds like my local M&S in weybridge! The fridges were surrounded!

My love to you. My DH is terminally ill as well. I think perhaps it just gives you a different outlook on things.

Is it new for you? I remember being really angry when he was first diagnosed, now I’m a bit more, well I don’t know the right word….. not chilled or relaxed. Accepting maybe? Oh I don’t know really. Just I’m thinking of you xxx

Zen?

"moral dilemma' oh please! 😂

Just a mini one! It's hard when you're someone who doesn't always think about themselves 100% of the time shrugs

fyllnadspenna · 13/02/2026 22:30

It does seem like poor planning for them not to have put a 'per customer' limit in place. People will be coming in for the deal, be annoyed they're sold out, and not bother to try another time.

They want to sell stock. To whom is irrelevant.

I don't think of myself 90% percent of the time, I still couldn't give a shit if I get the last ready meal off a shelf. That's a worry too many. 😁

This plain fact is apparently harder to digest than a over processed meal for two.😁

Same in m and s today I left pronto 🤣

Bradford, unfortunately.

I guarantee it’ll all end up being served in restaurants at triple the price

Google it, Hinny. It's an amazing resource at your fingertips.

Ha, yes peak MN that. Like when no one was allowed to complain about anything ever because there was a war in Ukraine.

Come on. Wtaf?

I'm really sorry @hopes2409. Wishing you strength for the path ahead.

Yes. Why do some people pounce on some lighthearted threads with Elevenerife tales?
What do they get out of it?

A thread about valentine meals... and someone has to ay they should be grateful they have someone for valentine. Why?

Life is not a competition, so why make it one, and why upset yourself on MN over it?

Strngerthings · 14/02/2026 01:02

Why should people have shame in a good deal ?

Maybe they are all cheating bastards??

Probably! I do tend to overthink. I just hate the thought of taking something that someone else might really want/need. Probably not so much over a ready meal but maybe more an essential item.

XenoBitch · 13/02/2026 22:22

It is a good deal, and you can't really blame people for wanting to stock up.
But yep, it does feel a bit wrong when you know it is all going in a freezer and wont be used for its intended purpose (Valentines meal).

It's all going to end up in the same place regardless of when it's eaten.

DreamTheMoors · 14/02/2026 01:22

Miranda65 · 13/02/2026 22:35

Er, I deliberately avoided the Valentines branded stuff in M&S today, as I refuse to participate in such cynical "fleecing"! (And I happily eat ready meals). Nor do I want a heart-,shaped pizza, FFS.

There’s a pizza place in my California area that’s been advertising a “heart-shaped pizza.”
It irritates the hell outta me because they charge way more for this and all they do is put a heart-shaped indent in a large round pizza and call it their “Valentine’s Day special.”
I suppose a new couple might like it.
Or perhaps a man in the doghouse might try it.
I can’t think of anybody else.

Snugglemonkey · 14/02/2026 01:35

I bought 6 valentines meal deals. 2 for tomorrow to feed my family and the other 4 as we are going to an air b and this week for 4 nights sc for half term. So I froze them ad will bring 2, eat out one night and get a takeaway one night. So I won't be cooking on holiday.

Why can't I buy 6? Who says they must be consumed on Valentine's day? It is a good deal!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/02/2026 01:38

I think we've become more grabby since the Covid pandemic.

That poster is going through something shattering. You can choose to ignore it if that's better for your equilibrium.

Just have a bit of heart.
