Valentine's meal deal...people have become so shameless.

AIBU to think that people have become shameless, selfish and greedy?

I noticed the Asda Valentine's meal for two offer earlier this week: starter, main, two sides, pudding, and a bottle of wine, all for £12 quid. Amazing deal really and a nice idea for a night in together.

Went back today to get it... Absolute hoards round the fridge, loading their trollies with multiples meals worth, everything times five or six... scrambling for all the best dishes. By the times I got to the fridge there was hardly anything left.

Am I being unreasonable, or have people always been like this?? I'd be embarrassed to do that, but no-one seemed to care.

That is disappointing.

We bought the Sainsbury's Valentine's Day Meal today.

Actually tomorrow is our wedding anniversary and we were supposed to be going away for a few days and had booked a meal out in a nice restaurant. Unfortunately, circumstances have dictated that we can't now go away and have cancelled the meal so we wanted something nice but easy to prepare at home.

I was pleased with Sainsbury's deal: £18 for starter, main course, side, dessert and a bottle of wine. Not the evening we had originally envisaged but hopefully pleasant

Happy Anniversary x

Maybe they are all cheating bastards??

Stocking up for the full weekend 😬

Happy Anniversary x

Thank you!

We were a bit disappointed to cancel but couldn't be helped. And actually next year is a biggish one that ends in a zero so we figured that we will try again with the trip and celebratory meal then.

Asda is a shop. They sell things. They don’t limit things because they want to sell them… they don’t care who buys them so long as they sell. Theyre not a charity and people can buy whatever they want.

I take it your getting hee and haw this year? ❤️

HermioneWeasley · 13/02/2026 22:55

Why would people be ashamed of buying stuff from shops?

I haven’t rtfd (sorry, sorry) but try having any kind of food intolerance and trying to benefit from the deals. And yet still, having avoided the crackers in the sharing platter (wrapped separately thankfully) and eating only the gf aspects and just accepted that the rubbish dessert option (a cardboard macaron selection) is STILL a good deal for some meat, potato, veg and prosecco. And YES it is still a valid deal. Genuinely. Despite me wanting to scream at why they can’t put a single mousse or panna cotta minus wheat in the menu. Still worth the money.

Nonononever · 13/02/2026 22:57

A shop offering a great deal and people snapping up a bargain or two. What a shocker. Honestly get a life.

gototogo · 13/02/2026 22:59

It’s all over priced precessed food. I bought food for tomorrow, main plus sides and dessert and it cost £13 but it’s far more food and nothing is processed as I’ll cook it myself (salmon en croute, hairy bikers recipe if anyone is looking for inspiration, it’s delicious, made it before but I use less salmon for 2 people obviously) if you want processed foods you can’t then moan other people bought them first

This. I’m a bit baffled by this thread. It’s just ready meals.

That’s not the way to maximize sales though.
Loss leaders are to get people in the store who then buy other things buoyed by getting their bargain
If you sell out of loss leaders ( which make no profit) then people go elsewhere.

There are too many gluttons around nowadays, IMO we should bring back rationing.

Didn't you notice during lockdown when people did the same with pasta, rice , loo rolls and baby milk

GardenCovent · 13/02/2026 23:05

I was in m&s today at 8am and the woman next to to me was kicking off that she couldn’t buy her meal with wine at that time.

The staff member deserved a medal for being so polite to her

I managed to get one together but ended up with two potato based sides to a potato-topped fish pie as they were the only sides left. Not ideal, but I'll do some veg myself.

Boo fucking hoo my partner just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and likely wont make next valentine

yes i am harsh but please stop wasting your time worrying annd moaning about this shit

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 13/02/2026 23:07

XenoBitch · 13/02/2026 22:22

It is a good deal, and you can't really blame people for wanting to stock up.
But yep, it does feel a bit wrong when you know it is all going in a freezer and wont be used for its intended purpose (Valentines meal).

I’m single. Am I not allowed to buy one?!

Firefly1987 · 13/02/2026 23:07

Yep people are selfish and out for as much as they can get. I have a moral dilemma every time there's just one item left on a shelf over whether I should get it or not. No one else ever gives a fuck 😆can completely believe that 99% of people would just take advantage of this offer.

francy99 · 13/02/2026 23:08

I had a look at the Morrison’s meal deal and contemplated getting one but then realised that most options are probably ultra processed stuff, so no thanks.

Plus I find most supermarket meat crap.

longtompot · 13/02/2026 23:08

We used to buy two lots as there are four of us, (me, dh and our two dds), but haven't done so for the past few years as their free from options aren't great and nearly all has butter or dairy in them. Such a shame as they were lovely. However, I still make the coquille st jacques which we used to buy as our starter from M&S

I’d say this is very ideal. What vegetables are better than potatoes?! Potatoes 3 ways is the dream.

ifonlyitwasreal · 13/02/2026 23:11

Who wants a ready meal for a treat dinner? They’re all horrible and taste of salt.

No. You must buy the full price stuff and be happy (joking).

I think the mistake OP made here was hoping to get a meal last minute.

They shouldn't. They were only trying to get the same deal as the OP, which is fair enough.
