How desperately sad in such a tiny community.

the authorities haven't released the name or the sex of the shooter. Being Careful to describe them as a gun person.

I noticed this immediately and wondered how long it would take someone to mention it.

First thing I noticed. I don’t want to detract from the appalling horror of it all but ffs these are not women’s crimes.

Accurate reporting matters.

This person also killed their mother and sister at home before heading to the school. Not a typical female crime at all. I wonder if we will come to find that most of the victims were also female?

Do they often describe what a murderer was wearing when they murdered people?

It’s Canada - so we’ll see what else emerges in the reports.

The description ‘woman, brown hair, in a dress’ was from an alert to the community to avoid them while the attack was still happening.

Wasn't a woman. It was a man in a dress not surprisingly. Not our crime so stop calling the shooter a "woman".

Yeah, given they know the identity of the killer, but aren't saying, but shooter was in a dress.... it doesn't take a genius.

Such awful news 😢 but, as @BurnTheWholeThingDownsays, these are not women's crimes.

That it’ll be”someone else’s fault” that the poor ‘woman in a dress’ was driven to it by the awful females in their life not accepting their true self, and Canada’s legal and political system will support this, and blame females for males crimes.

This is in Canada, where they call trans identified men "female".

Plenty of the media in the UK call the likes of Scarlet Blake, male murderer, "she", for that matter.

"Female" is used rather than "woman" when age is a factor, I think.

It may be relevant that in North America mass shootings in schools are overwhelmingly committed by males between 13 and 18 years old.

How awful. It's so remote too - no hospital, 3 hours to a major city and an hour to another town. All they have is a clinic.

Agree the wording seems strange, BBC rolling coverage starts with the dressing description then soon move to putting that in "xxx"

It is tragic news, but I had just read about this and my first thought was - a ‘female shooter’? Women don’t carry out mass shootings.

It is completely wrong to not report these things accurately.

So it’s a bloke in a frock. Not a woman or a female crime.

A woman would wear practical clothes like trousers if going on a spree in my opinion. Cosplayers would wear flowy dresses
