I don’t generally look at Fox News for obvious (right wing fascist) reasons but they have used the phrase “gunman” in their headline before going on to use the phrase “female in a dress” in quotation marks

She / he could well have brought the guns in illegally from the USA.

A poster on social media says that she has seen the probable mother's Facebook page and that the family "had a safe full of guns at home".

Lots of you saying what I thought as soon as I read the reports. What a horrendous thing to happen. My thoughts are with all those affected.

If it does turn out to be a man who says he's a woman, it'll be interesting to see which news outlets say he's a woman and who tells the truth. Canada is a nuthouse for gender ideology.

The individual alleged to be the shooter in the deadly attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia has been identified by a close family member as Jesse Strang, according to information obtained by Juno News.

Juno News spoke directly with Russell G. Strang, Jesse Strang’s uncle, who confirmed Jesse was transgender and responsible for the shooting that left 10 people dead, including the suspect. A public YouTube account believed to be owned by Jesse features the transgender flag and uses “she/her” pronouns.

Some of the reporting may be to keep the victims more prominent than the shooter. I think the aim is to diminish the risk of copycat notoriety.

That's a tiny school and community, if I'm reading it right, and a huge proportion of students lost.

It takes the focus off of this horrible tragedy as everyone is now scratching their head. News should be transparent. Just say he’s a transwoman.

Apparently this is quite a small town, only 2,400 people, so almost everyone will be affected by this to varying degrees. It’s truly awful.

Rather than ‘mentally distressed young man doesn’t get the mentally health support he needs but is told living as a woman will solve all his issues’ .

I agree that the suspicion is high that this person was a man/ boy, ( especially as they wore a dress!) but it’s not been confirmed yet.

The initial reports said the killer was female and a woman, but there are now reports that he was a 17 year old man?

I think the initial reports were when the shooting was still active. If you're warning people you're going to give a description corresponding with what they might see. Eg "suspect is female, dark hair. Wearing a dress" rather than "not sure if it's a male or female, they're in a dress, best you go up and take a close look to check if they are really male"

Canada, Land of the Mounties, Rockies and reality denial is going on.

Canada believes men can be literally women.

You will often find that channels like Fox News will report accurately in matters like this, while more left wing channels-including the BBC-will tie themselves in knots in an effort to avoid calling a spade a shovel or, in this case, calling a man a man.

It comes to something when accurate reporting is sacrificed on the altar of stupidity.

"Person" would do fine as a description. "A person in a dress with brown hair". "A brown-haired person in a dress".

I suppose the next thing will be that this terrible crime will be recorded as committed by a woman and the stat produced when these people want to say that women also commit mass shootings.

In the independent article it says that the shooter has been described as female which would be unusual as nearly all mass shootings are committed by men

Instantly when i saw the description of the shooter i knew they would be a non woman

The reports should say acutely disturbed male murders school friend. Those poor kids and families destroyed by someone who was failed by society.

But if the initial reports the police were getting were saying it's a girl in a dress, why would they change that to person?

The name has now been released and a relative has confirmed the shooter was born male and was transgender presenting as female and using she/her pronouns

I hate that this is what it takes to wake Canada up. I always figured it'd be a woman in the boxing ring that would be killed. Instead it's kids at school. How very sad. I feel absolutely awful for the families of the victims.

Tragic for all of those involved.

Again and again in these stories, troubled children have been given free access to guns in their parents homes.

It is astonishing these parents think this is a good idea…!

Possible, but no need, Canada has high levels of gun ownership (lower than the US).
