To wonder why it’s seen that upper class people don’t eat fast food?

I always see it said that upper class people wouldn’t be seen dead in Mcdonalds etc but it’s a strange urban myth?

I am upper class and I cannot resist a Big Arch or a box of nuggets. Even more so the breakfast menu has me salivating.

So AIBU to think this is a silly urban myth?

I'm upper class too and I like a Wimpy, a burger king, a kebab van, a truckers cafe.

I am also upper class and find nuggets irresistible

200skies · 29/01/2026 21:09

I'm aristocracy and never say no to KFC.

WorkCleanRepeat · 29/01/2026 21:09

Well I've never met anybody upper class in my entire life (Well i dont think i have) so I'll need to bow to your greater judgement.

PickledElectricity · 29/01/2026 21:10

Wow I had no idea we had so many landed gentry on Mumsnet!

GCSEBiostruggles · 29/01/2026 21:12

Andrew loves a Pizza Express

NuffSaidSam · 29/01/2026 21:12

I'm a Princess (don't tell Wills I'm on Mumsnet, he'll go mad!) and I fed all of my three KFC as soon as they weaned. It's good for me, it's good for them.

Lambington · 29/01/2026 21:12

The subject has never come up until your post. Does anyone actually think this?

Peridoteage · 29/01/2026 21:14

I've never once known anyone who might be deemed "upper class" describe themselves thus....

On a separate note, DH is very plummy and is terrible for eating junky food & sweets

Giddykiddy · 29/01/2026 21:14

I'm royalty and love a kebab

TheActualQueen · 29/01/2026 21:14

I’m The Queen and I jolly well love a Big Mac! 🍔

Ifusay · 29/01/2026 21:14

A poached egg or a piece of fish is all one needs for supper.

What else would an upper class person deem themselves as? I’m not going to pretend I’m working class just for the sake of being a social chameleon.

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 29/01/2026 21:16

How do the upper class participants on this thread define their membership of that elite group? Everyone I’ve known who is genuinely upper class (literally about four people in my life) all thought they were upper middle class despite a couple of them holding inherited titles.

PollyBell · 29/01/2026 21:17

As the saying goes anyone who uses class has none

In person you play it down to play it cool I guess as a bid to not make others feel intimidated by your wealth.

My mum told me we’re landed gentry too but I don’t actually know what it means.

FWIW I don’t mind a Burger King if I’m on a road trip but am otherwise not a fan of fast food. Nothing to do with my class I just don’t like it 😁

Think it’s a misconception in that upper class tend to be a lot less precious about it than upper middle class and that’s where the confusion comes from

Secretseverywhere · 29/01/2026 21:20

I had no idea so many upper class people were on here either. I am not posh but I am rural and surrounded by big estates and a posh hideaway whose target market is folk with a net worth of 100 million plus. Loads on emphasis on grown on the farm food. Not saying no one ever had junk food but there are an awful lot of personal chefs going to waste if it’s a nightly thing.

Nushi21 · 29/01/2026 21:21

I always thought upper class mums always look so thin that they hardly ate anything. Never mind a processed fast food burger.

My dc is at a school with many upper class families. The mums are wafer thin. Then there’s me - the unlucky thyroid sufferer looking like a roly poly that ate all the cookies when in fact I hardly eat.

Bonus for me right now as I also have a moon face from the steroids I’ve taken post double eye surgery 2 weeks ago. Another thyroid related illness.

As a forriner who’s met people of every walk of life, I think the working class and upper class have more in common than people think, it’s the middle class (or people obsessed with it) that stand out here
