To wonder why it’s seen that upper class people don’t eat fast food?

I always see it said that upper class people wouldn’t be seen dead in Mcdonalds etc but it’s a strange urban myth?

I am upper class and I cannot resist a Big Arch or a box of nuggets. Even more so the breakfast menu has me salivating.

So AIBU to think this is a silly urban myth?

Well spotted, that forriner!

Yup, the petit-bourgeoisie are terribly bothered about correctness, however it's defined by members of that class. The real working class don't give a rat's arse whether you say bog, lav or loo, and neither do the uppers. Both populations call a spade a spade - and are more likely to know the difference between a spade and a shovel than the censorious middles.

Exception for King Charles, who seems to have invented a personalised version of petit-bourgeoisie despite being the pinnacle of British aristocracy.

Me, I might be taken for an aristocrat due to my potty mouth, love of awful jokes, ability to speak French and not needing to work. I can't ride a horse, however, I dislike most fast food, and my income is the State pension. Bollocks, Jeeves, I'm a chav bastard, aren't I?!

That big-eared German twat is in no way the pinnacle of anything.

Diana married empatically Down.

German - come on...Prince Philip was partly Danish. The Queen had a German grandmother in Queen Mary but her mother was Scottish. Charles isn't that German & what's so wrong with them anyway? 🤣

Sloelydoesit · 30/01/2026 00:58

I'm too upper class to read the whole thread but I am about to eat my swan coq au vin style

LBFseBrom · 30/01/2026 01:01

It is an urban myth, certsainly the young people from that strata of society will tuck into fast food when with their friends, older ones will if on a day out or shopping, just the same as anyone else.

Friendlygingercat · 30/01/2026 01:07

Neither the upper class nor the working class give a damn about what anyone thinks of them. Its the classes in between who stress about whether things like fast food, package holidays and branded clothes are accpetable

AlwaysTheRenegade · 30/01/2026 01:14

I might direct a driver to take the workers to a fast food restaurant if it was a particularly hard day and they asked, ...assuming the home cured bacon and free range eggs on fresh homemade bread delivered every morning wasn't enough.
I can't see that happening though.

As a member of the Duchy I can't eat anything that's not high game or branded.
Same as smoking in the street as a woman. It's not the done thing.

I would never order one for privacy purposes. But when I am in the city I will indulge.

Yeah but you could get MI5 to deliver it, so it wouldn't be a problem

I'm Jesus, and there's nothing like a fillet of fish and chips on a Friday.

I had no idea so many upper class people were on here either. I am not posh but I am rural and surrounded by big estates and a posh hideaway whose target market is folk with a net worth of 100 million plus. Loads on emphasis on grown on the farm food. Not saying no one ever had junk food but there are an awful lot of personal chefs going to waste if it’s a nightly thing.

I live in a semi rural very expensive village (I'm originally from a council estate in the city next to this village LOL) and there's 5/6 takeaway places in the whole village. Trying to order a drunken takeaway late at night? Not a chance! There's only Greggs, subway, dominos, papa John's,a Chinese place and a street kitchen place. We just got a spoons recently after protests from the residents that it'll bring in the riff raff 😂

I’ve been on MN a few hours, insomnia. Honestly, the amount of BS threads on here tonight/this morning are jaw dropping.

Marmalade sandwiches, if Paddington Bear meeting the Queen is anything to go by. 😁

My tastes are more honey sandwiches in the woods with Pooh bear.

What’s a Big Arch?

A burger. Although it's called a Big Arse in my home. HTH

IsItWickedNotToCare · 30/01/2026 06:18

One's servants prepare and serve one's dinner so one has no need to visit "fast food" establishments. Mind you, one sometimes sends the kitchen maid out to fetch a sneaky 'McFlurry' when one is feeling particularly wicked.

PuzzledObserver · 30/01/2026 08:14

BunnyLake · 29/01/2026 23:20

Wasn’t Clarissa Dickson upper class? She and Jennifer Pattison (a bit posh too) were visibly fond of food 😁 (and still missed 😥).

Edited

Exactly so. The averages may be differ between different groups, but the variation within groups is larger than the difference between the averages.

ChristmasFluff · 30/01/2026 08:17

I am a scutter and I never eat fast food. Literally never. Haven't been in a McDonalds since I was 23. I leave those sorts of establishments to my betters.

I know my place.

🤣

I mean quite literally. For reasons too boring to go into, I used to spend a fair amount of time at a place where a viscount (and a duchess too, actually) used to go as well. One day I brought a load of cakes I'd made and he had the Victoria sponge and said it was superb. He was always very pleasant and polite, and if I say so myself, it was fabulous that day.

I remember reading that the Spencers consider(ed) themselves 'smarter' than the royals. Lol.

Was this the one who told you that you smelled faintly of botty?
