To wonder why it’s seen that upper class people don’t eat fast food?

I always see it said that upper class people wouldn’t be seen dead in Mcdonalds etc but it’s a strange urban myth?

I am upper class and I cannot resist a Big Arch or a box of nuggets. Even more so the breakfast menu has me salivating.

So AIBU to think this is a silly urban myth?

Mind you spent all of sixth form in McDonalds as it was the only place we could go to smoke away from our boarding school. I miss a silk cut and a root beer.

Oh yes, me too. Fond memories of my teens with a silk cut and a root beer 😃

I think I dated him too.

I've never dated a viscount but I have eaten one 😋

This is such a strange thread.

The royals sent for a McDonald’s when we were on holiday last year. 😆

I think people often like to pretend they are better than the group just below them so I'd expect upper middle to be avoiding crass takeaways or at least claiming they do. Upper class don't have to give a damn what others think and can eat whatever crap they like, dress badly and shag whoever they like.

As Agatha Christie once put it:

‘Well, you see, Mr Cade, most of my work has lain amongst these people. What they call the upper classes, I mean. You see, the majority of people are always wondering what the neighbours will think. But tramps and aristocrats don’t–they just do the first thing that comes into their heads, and they don’t bother to think what anyone thinks of them. I’m not meaning just the idle rich, the people who give big parties, and so on. I mean those that have had it born and bred in them for generations that nobody else’s opinion counts but their own".

For “yourself”. Doesn’t sound like grammar they’d teach at Eton.

Aquarius91 · 29/01/2026 22:16

I’m Camilla Parker Bowles and I had a rustler burger for my tea.

I've never once known anyone who might be deemed "upper class" describe themselves thus....

On a separate note, DH is very plummy and is terrible for eating junky food & sweets

It's the three school meals and the tuck box that warped his taste buds.

gototogo · 29/01/2026 22:17

I’ve known a couple of minor aristocracy and both had proper paid ordinary jobs, didn’t use their titles, and weren’t adverse to junk food, trips to the pub or anything else we mere mortals do. They are human after all and quite frankly had no more money than any of us, one of them even went to state schools!

Well that makes sense as I didn’t go to Eton. I actually didn’t go to an upper class school.

Aristocracy here too. An occasional fast food keeps me in touch with other members of society 😉

My dear, you write in a similar manner to the OP with the 'soch' thread. Bored?

Who even says upper class school 😂

Honestly OP, I don’t really care. You should care less too.

It’s not where you start, it’s where you end up and how you treated people along the way that counts.

The same number of people who have heard the word 'soch'. Just one, the OP.

Sorry, to answer your question - It's not a silly urban myth. It's something you made up to get attention whilst inventing a fantasy life.
