Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

I find it pretty horrifying that anyone voted for him after the Capitol riots tbh.

I think he probably emboldened many of his supporters with that. And then again when he pardoned the incarcerated perpetrators.

Remembering Four Seasons Total Landscaping will forever make me smile in the darkness though.

I hear you. I think there are a number of different 'camps' of voters for him. None of whom have any excuse at this point.

I agree that the intelligent people behind him are scarier. He's a battering ram.

I've listened to a lot of very intelligent people who work in finance/economics who voted for him. Probably, that was partly in their own self interest, which is how the majority vote, but they also seem to genuinely believe that he will be better for the economy than the Dems.
If Trump could manage to execute a well thought out plan, that may well be true. So far he is utterly chaotic wrt the tarrifs (and most other things), is annoying many foreign governments with his bully routine, talking up the stock market constantly rather than what he said in is campaign about being interested in 'main street'. He is also increasing the national debt, just the same as the Dems after giving up on DOGE almost immediately and clearly being unwilling to make any signficiant cuts to spending- see the UK too!

Well all the Brits can be 'horrified' and 'shocked', etc but they would do better to try to understand why many people in the US did vote for him. There are lots of potential reasons. Just as in the UK, people don't vote for someone because of their morals or the way they speak (see Johnson). Clearly, Trump has a way of connecting with ordinary, working people, like Johnson did. Much as I can't stand either of them, they are obviously good at some things.

It amazes me that so many Americans believe that the Republicans are good for the economy. It contradicts all of the evidence.

after giving up on DOGE almost immediately
DOGE served its purpose. It blocked investigations into Elon's activities and funnelled confidential data towards the likes of Palantir.

I would counter that some people don’t vote for people because of their morals.

I have tried to understand. The more I try, the more horrified and shocked I am that people would think that someone like Trump might be a solution to any of their problems.

And much as I can't stand Johnson, I don't think he is comparable to Trump. A better comparison in the British context would be Nigel Farage, and repulsive though he is, even he isn't on quite the same scale. And I'm horrified by the prospect of the UK electing him as well.

Its noteworthy that his approval ratings dropped sharply after the Capitol riots.

Then, the right wing propaganda machine got rolling again, and managed to convince people that it was just a friendly sight seeing tour.

Fox News, OAN and social media disinformation is how you end up with Trump.

That said, the Dems have consistently made things easier than it ought to be for him.

DeepBlueDeer · 26/01/2026 05:16

Afraid its behind a paywall, but WSJ reporting suggests Trump might walk back his support for the latest ICE murderer.

Obviously you still get the odd scumbag, but enough people on the US right are disturbed enough by the shooting that I suspect a u-turn is only days away.

Well, I hope he does row back. Perhaps they have realised that the video evidence is too damning.

I'm sure that there must be a lot of Republican politicians who are deeply uncomfortable with the current situation.

Kamala was the ‘border czar’ and allowed millions to pour over the border and settle all over the country with fraudulent ‘asylum claims’.

Many on the left say that they’d vote blue no matter who. I feel the same in reverse. Such a betrayal, and was obviously the reason Trump won despite J6

WomenAreNotEmotionalSupportAnimals · 26/01/2026 06:12

All the Trump and ICE apologists might want to know Greg Bovino says they will now be considered fair game for summary execution too, just for listening to dissenting voices.

"If you call law enforcement names like gestapo or using the term kidnapping, that is a choice that is made, there are actions and consequences that come from those choices. And then when you choose, when someone chooses to listen to a politician, a so-called journalist, a community leader, that's spouted that type of vilification towards law enforcement or anything else, when you choose to listen to that, that is a choice and there are consequences and actions there also. I think we saw that yesterday.

"I think we saw that yesterday" is him referring to Alex Pretti being murdered in the street.

Trump and his news networks meanwhile were broadcasting to the world that the borders were open. And later on, his MAGA politicians blocked new legislation.

So yeah, while Harris was saying " don't come", Trump was effectively saying " come, free phones, free schools, free health".

Czar. Funny. I find Russian words align more naturally with Trump. 😊

The legislation was actually not good. It still allowed thousands of illegal crossings per day and never stopped the practice of catch and release. Trump shut down the border without having to pass bad legislation at all

Harris was saying ‘don’t come’ while at the same time allowing them free passage through the country via catch and release.

The man who killed Laken Riley was flown around on taxpayer dime to NYC and then Athens, GA. Unacceptable and I fear a return if I ever decide to ‘vote blue’. They can never be trusted on this issue

They killed an unarmed man AFTER having removed the weapon he was legally carrying, had pepper sprayed him and had this guy pinned to the ground.

Thats an execution, i ve 1930s and 40s photo's from TIME publication (Ironic) showing the Nazi's doing similar to people who got in their way too.

Even Trump is saying they'll now be an investigation around this and ICE's wider remit and behaviours.

Many Republican people 100% against immigration are very unhappy with this killing.

Its a pity you cannot be one of them.

Same. I judge the Americans that voted for Trump. If you are right leaning but have lost touch with your moral compass to such a degree that immigration and the principles of trickle down wealth are more important to you in a candidate than being honest, law-abiding, coherent, consistent and reasonable… if you see a criminal who lies, talks absolute nonsense and is so emotionally unstable and petulant he’s like a pantomime villain and think, you know what? He’ll probably cut my taxes tho… That’s who should represent our country.

You’re a special kind of morally void. And if you’re still defending him now, you’re as stupid as a rock with it. I said what I said. I keep seeing people say, you don’t hate Americans. You hate one American. And I’m like, nope. Hate is a big word, but my contempt is bigger than just Trump.

Trump’s way of tackling illegal immigration can only be sustained through spending huuuuuuge chunks of money. As soon as ICE stop being a deterrent, numbers will rise. Right now, you’d have to be an idiot to enter the USA illegally. You should also note that a significant number of people no longer want to enter legally. Slow hand clap - you’ve created such a violent culture of fear that far fewer people feel safe or morally comfortable visiting the lawless shithole that is Trump’s America.

But that toxic hostile culture costs money to sustain. If he stands his cosplaying-as-Nazis brawn down, the numbers will creep up.

How sustainable is that for a country? Politically, economically, morally?

I already said that he wasn’t doing anything that warranted shooting him. I know you may not have read that post, but my feeling is that protestors should not be allowed to interfere with ICE operations for both their own safety and the safety of others.

Moving forward, protestors should actually just, you know, protest instead of actively interfere and obstruct.

Protestors should watch ICE knock women to the ground and pepper spray them, when that woman WAS just standing there and protesting?

Bow down and lick the boots of your oppressors.

Bloozie · 26/01/2026 07:03

Honestly. We’ve had Americans wanging on at us about being the land of the free for decades. Criticising other countries for what they see as infringements of free speech. Blathering on about their constitutional rights - and here we are. Openly saying it’s not safe to protest against the illegal acts of a government. Don’t speak up. Stay quiet.

That isn’t what freedom looks like.
