Guardian is running a live feed, and a good unbiased source is Agenda Free TV on YouTube also running live feeds from the streets there.

Obviously multiple versions of events being thrown about as it's very fresh.

Sending solidarity across the pond to any US Mumsnetters in the locale and protesting the awful actions of ICE and disregard of your constitution by the "President".

Some social media reports are saying all witnesses have been rounded up and are being held without the ability to have legal counsel. Fucking barbaric.

And to which ever poster said the UK can expect the same in a few years. Yes if Reform get in I fully expect this kind of thing will happen here too. But I sure as shit won’t be voting for them nor will I be online justifying their actions.

myotheraccountsa · 24/01/2026 21:28

Alltheyellowbirds · 24/01/2026 21:26

Yes. It’s been going on for months all over the US. They wear masks, they have no warrants or ID, they drive around in vans and scoop up anyone they suspect of being illegal and kidnap them. Relatives aren’t informed, the person doesn’t get to call home or see a lawyer, they just get sent off to a camp somewhere with no due process at all. It’s an utter violation of basic human rights and it’s mind-blowing that it’s been allowed to happen in a democratic country..

That's terrifying. How thin a line between this and mass genocide...

@MynameisJune I've never been particularly politically active, but come the General Election I will be at every hustings and public meeting to make them squirm.

Seems to be routine "clearing" of a weapon. You obviously don't want to risk leaving a round in the chamber so you fire it in a safe direction.

On Royal Navy ships we had tubes filled with sand to fire into in the event that we had a round in the chamber, and a clearance drill was done every time that the weapons were issued and returned to the armoury to "prove" that they were not loaded, even when we hadn't taken any ammunition out anyway.

Sounds plausible, thank you. Still cynical, but I'm not au fait with such protocol, so thank you for a "reasonable" alternative 🙏

This rhetoric isn't helpful

Isn’t it? The dogs in the street could see what Trump was , in January 2020 if not before.

This is how it started in Germany in the 1930s. One wonders if the administration will use the reaction to this as their Reichstag Fire moment, as a pretext for clamping down on dissent.

20thCenturyFecks · 24/01/2026 21:31

ICE are like the 1930s brown shirts. It's totally appalling what they're doing.

BlueJuniper94 · 24/01/2026 21:32

Aethelredtheunsteady · 24/01/2026 21:15

No. People who voted for Trump saw what happened on January 6th and were fine with it. This is just holding them accountable.

How is it holding them accountable?

Happyjoe · 24/01/2026 21:34

They will never be brought to justice, gaslighting comes from the top.
Stay safe lovely Americans and please, get rid of the monster in charge.

Gaslighting does come from top, the same people who are convulsing with TDS are those who fawned over Mark Carneys Davos speech the other day where he literally said out loud that they all knew the "rules based order" was bullshit all along. Polarisation is distorting everyone's ability to think

That’s obviously the agenda

HighStreetOtter · 24/01/2026 21:38

Ok I’ve seen video of it now from two angles. He’s in the street, another protester gets pushed over, he goes to help her, they get pepper sprayed, he gets tackled by six or so agents and they briefly beat him and then shoot him.

sadly lots of comments on twitter from maga idiots saying he got what he deserved and shouldn’t have fought officers (i didn’t see that he was), saying he was armed (he’s allowed to be in America), saying he pulled his gun (i didn’t see this). So yeah, they’ll justify it alright. With lies.

To object to people being executed in the street is an entirely normal reaction. HTH

Just in 😪

Horrific. RIP Alex Pretti.

I know nobody in this situation no matter their job would have deserved this but seeing the kind face of an ICU nurse really hammers it home. Heartbreaking.

I’ve just seen a video of this and it’s appalling. ICE agents seem to think that they can act without any comeback it’s unbelievable. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be in the USA right now especially as someone who is not white and who has put up with stuff like this for years. Really dreadful, hateful stuff.

They can.
This is a direct quote from Stephen Miller:

‘“To all ICE officers, you have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties, and anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony. You have immunity to perform your duties and no one, no city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator or domestic insurrectionist can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties. And the Department of Justice has made clear that if officials cross that line into obstruction, into criminal conspiracy against the United States or against ICE officers, then they will face justice.”

Even Joe Rogan has described them as the Gestapo!
it’s utterly terrifying.
and I think all constructed so Trump can cancel the midterms

DdraigGoch · 24/01/2026 21:45

Alltheyellowbirds · 24/01/2026 21:35

And cancelling the mid-terms.

I don't think that they will cancel them outright. Too many Republicans are moving on from Congress to stand as Governors or whatever.

What I think that they will do is a huge amount of voter suppression - making it really difficult to cast your vote if you live in a blue area. This already goes on a lot in certain states: in places like Texas, Florida and Ohio they make it very difficult for people in cities to get to polling booths; they deliberately limit the supply of polling booths in cities and areas populated by minorities to make the queues too long; and they use voter ID laws to make it more difficult for marginalised people (who may not be able to drive or travel abroad) to vote, often shutting down DMVs in areas with minority populations (trying to get a driving licence renewed in Houston is much more difficult than doing the same in the suburbs). And then there's the gerrymandering.

They already do all of the above. The new thing they are likely to do is voter suppression with menaces. Having their armed thugs hanging around outside polling stations in blue-voting areas.

MoFadaCromulent · 24/01/2026 21:47

It would be morbidly fascinating to see how all the second amendment don't tread on me bootlickers will justify this if it wasn't all so depressing and bringing predictable

FunnyOrca · 24/01/2026 21:49

I don’t have a tv and actually haven’t heard of Americast, so that’s on me. I read in the app and listen to the news on the radio.

I find it hard to trust their coverage is complete when they take such a neutral stance on ICE actions and haven’t been reporting a lot of what people are sharing. I am thankful to the OP for their sources. Perhaps, Americast will give me more of what I’m looking for. Thank you for the suggestion.

Seems to be routine "clearing" of a weapon. You obviously don't want to risk leaving a round in the chamber so you fire it in a safe direction.

So if the Police shoot someone because they have reason to believe the person they shot was armed, they then shoot said weapon to get rid of all the bullets, in case the dead person decided to use it after being shot ? did they then scrabble around on the floor looking for those bullets to show that the gun was loaded at the time of the 'arrest' ?

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 24/01/2026 21:53

It's remarkable how the pro-2nd Amendment, the pro-"Don't Tread On Me", the pro-small government, the pro-"you can take my gun from my cold dead hand", the pro-"don't trust the government!" and the pro-"free speech!!!?!!" crowd have so quickly turned to "if you don't instantly comply with what the government tells you to do then you deserve to be killed". Not that they're an abject bunch of cowardly fucking hypocrites, of course. They must just really enjoy the flavour of the boots that they're licking.

It's also notable how out of all the states that have millions of undocumented immigrants (eg California which bankrolls much of the rest of the US, Texas (Republican) and Florida (Republican)) the Trump administration chose to make an example of... Minnesota (Democrat). This is notable as being first time in ever that the US presidency has remembered that Minnesota even fucking exists.
