Help us solve a family debate!! If you don’t serve chips what is the best side dish for a quiche?

What do you eat with a pie if not mash, chips or at a push new potatoes?! Please don't tell me just veg because the pastry is enough , what will there be to soak up the gravy 😢

Yep, just veg. Consider the humble Cornish pasty. A complete meal, portable and relatively mess free. Carb on the outside with meat and veg inside. All very nice and no need for a handful of mash or hot buttered new spuds on the side.

Its winter therefore the law says you must serve the quiche hot

In serving it hot, you cannot have salad

You could have coleslaw, dont ask why, it just is

You can have chips, or mash, or new potatoes

A jacket potato, not quite

Baked beans if you are having mash. Not with coleslaw

Preferably home made so that you have a much deeper quiche than shop bought which are always too shallow. If you must have shop bought, put them on top of each other so you get double quiche. Lovely

Does no where sell cheese flan anymore by the way?

Mash with quiche? This is more traumatising than boiled potatoes with lasagne. 😂

Endofyear · 23/01/2026 21:50

I'd definitely have a nice salad and maybe potato salad as well!

Williteverstopraininghey · 23/01/2026 21:52

How are so many people eating quiche?? It’s raining, windy and cold. Do you live abroad?

soupyspoon · 23/01/2026 21:54

I do love these types of threads, as with the lasagne with potatoes thread, people are shocked and horrified by some combinations. Its very funny.

Pommes frites

Or a lalsacienne, quiche with salad (betterave, mache) as a starter. Then a meat course - porc aux pruneaux, ginormous sausage.

Summerbay23 · 23/01/2026 22:08

Just salad but sometimes new potatoes too.

To be honest chips sound perfect (if I wasn’t already overweight, over 50, and can put on weight just by thinking about chips).

If I was in my 20s chips would be perfect.

I eat quiche all year round, why not?

Chips is the universal side dish. There is nothing that you can't serve chips with.

This is very wise and 100% true

Bycosycat · 23/01/2026 22:15

It all comes down to the time of the day! Lunch is quiche and salad; dinner/tea is quiche, salad and chips. Coleslaw is acceptable for both.

Obimumkinobi · 23/01/2026 22:21

I mean, I'd eat it with chips if offered but here it's savoury rice or cous cous (all hot)

I do love the holy trinity of lasagne, chips and salad though- perfect!

hepsitemiz · 23/01/2026 22:23

Fresh green salad with light dressing. Perfect. No potatoes and definitely no chips!

pinkpony88 · 23/01/2026 22:27

Usually salad and coleslaw but sometimes I’ve felt particularly gluttonous and has it with dirty wedges 🤤

Astra53 · 23/01/2026 22:27

Salad, coleslaw and new potatoes.

WafflePlusWord · 23/01/2026 22:30

YANBU as I would totally eat that. But I think you need a salad to make it appear healthy.

BTW I have never had quiche and chips but have had quiche, salad and potato salad quite a few times. Potato salad is probably the same (or worse?) than chips when you think about all the calories/fat in mayonnaise!

We eat quiche (heated up) all year round and have salad most nights with every meal.

aintnospringchicken · 23/01/2026 22:32

Salad and coleslaw

Eat it warm! It’s very comforting.

bluedancingtwiglet · 23/01/2026 22:32

Potato salad

explanationplease · 23/01/2026 22:33

Yes, because quiche is full of saturated fat, and so are chips.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 23/01/2026 22:33

Quiche her? I hardly know her!

Pabbel · 23/01/2026 22:34

Chips and garden peas.

thebrollachan · 23/01/2026 22:41

Brussels sprouts (the bitterness cuts through the richness of the quiche) and Mrs Ball's chutney.

ShowmetheMapletree · 23/01/2026 22:43

Carb on carb, got to love it! Even better triple carb!!! 🤤
