Help us solve a family debate!! If you don’t serve chips what is the best side dish for a quiche?

Carb on carb, got to love it! Even better triple carb!!! 🤤

You’d love University Cafe on Byres Road in Glasgow. I went there with my ex once and he ordered a shortcrust macaroni cheese pie, which came served with chips and garlic bread.

New potatoes and beans or salad and coleslaw

sakura06 · 23/01/2026 22:57

Chips and salad! Sometimes pasta and salad (but chips are my preference!).

FabulousWealthyTart · 23/01/2026 23:02

Quiche chips and beans was my favourite school dinner and I still love it now.

BigFishLittleFishy · 23/01/2026 23:19

Just wanted to check - when everyone is saying beans, you mean baked beans and not green beans?

Chips is perfectly sensible. I wouldn't do a salad when it's cold. Chips, fine green beans and broccoli.

MrsClatterbuck · 23/01/2026 23:35

Chips salad and coleslaw

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/01/2026 23:43

We have quiche hot with either chips and beans, or a jacket potato, salad and coleslaw.

Gymnopedie · 23/01/2026 23:48

Chips and salad and coleslaw and enough mayo to make sure the chips aren't dry.

LighthouseLED · 23/01/2026 23:51

Chips are fine. I’d add sausages and peas, and then throw the quiche in the bin.

PinkTonic · 24/01/2026 00:11

Salad for lunch, chips and salad or beans for dinner, or new potatoes and salad in the summer.

Quiche, Chips and salad in my house

Eat it warm! It’s very comforting.

Wait people eat cold quiche? What kind of heathens are you?

Backfromhols · 24/01/2026 00:27

Salad, new pots & coleslaw.

BeanQuisine · 24/01/2026 00:32

A small serve of green salad is most common, although when dining alone I will just serve quiche on its own.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 24/01/2026 00:56

Quiche is something I normally have cold with home made potato salad, a bit of green stuff and some bread and butter. I only tend to have it on hot days when I’m not putting the oven on. But nothing wrong with chips as a side, I would add the bit of green stuff, or possibly peas if the quiche was warm, but baked beans sounds disgusting.

Salad. I'm not one for double carbing, I don't get it. Chip butties, pie and mash, pizza and dough balls. A mystery.

Well pizza and dough balls is wrong as you are repeating the carb. Nowt wrong with pizza and chips though.

louderthan · 24/01/2026 01:17

Salad and new potatoes. Jacket potatoes at a push.

To be honest, anyone who would say green beans over chips isn't really an opinion that is worth listening to.

Mash and beans

@Egglio you filthy animal!

Eggs (and egg products such as quiche/omelete) such NEVER be in contact with bean juice
The only acceptable way to consume a full English is to ask for the beans to be served in a little bowl on the side or at the very least by the strategic building of a ‘sausage wall’
Its my hill and I’ll die on it…

This thread makes me want to cry!!!!!

I have chickens, I love love love eggs. Quiche is my absolute favourite.

Sadly, for no apparent reason I have developed a very serious egg allergy. WAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

so, mouth watering

quiche with salad, chips, coleslaw.
quiche with beans, chips, or mash.
quiche with new potatoes, salad, coleslaw.

quiche in any form at any time.

oooohhh. And beetroot. With all of the above

A slight sideline- but my partner has recently developed a severe egg allergy too. The specialist at the hospital where they diagnosed it said there is research that seems to be showing late onset allergies can be linked to severe trauma in the past couple of years. My dp’s symptoms started almost exactly after a life changing injury. Bizarre, but interesting!.

BusyExpert · 24/01/2026 06:12

Salad. Why on earth would you want to add carbs?

Any advance on quadruple carbs?

@BusyExpert because carbs are nice.

Wingingit73 · 24/01/2026 06:42

Salad. But chips sound delicious. Salad and chips.

Sartre · 24/01/2026 06:44

Don’t really eat quiche but if I did, probably veggies and new potatoes? That’s what my Gran always did.
