Help us solve a family debate!! If you don’t serve chips what is the best side dish for a quiche?

Corn on the cob

BCBird · 25/01/2026 09:32

Salad. Obviously as I'd had salad as an accompaniment I'd like a substantial apple crumble and custard for afters😂 if the quiche is warm, the salad is a good contrast too.

Chips with quiche ? Not really.
Could be worse, I've been offered chips with lasagna.
As others said, salad most appropriate.

If chips the priority, then traditionally fish, or I find a nice gooey omelette a favourable match.

Lasagna, chips and garlic bread is a thing of beauty if it’s your one real meal of the day doing something cold, outdoors and on your feet!

We had chips with quiche as a kid, but also definitely salad and coleslaw. All were served in big bowls in the middle of the table so you only got like a handful of each. Picked onions also featured.

YABU. Forget the double carbs. They just dont go
If you ant another carb I would have pasta or rice salad (even potato salad at a push)
But would normally just have a normal salad.

In my Bistro we’d serve quiche with salad and fries. I mean what else is there that would compliment.

Salad and coleslaw

BillieWiper · 25/01/2026 13:04

I would love chips as a side to quiche anything. But also salad.

I usually have new potatoes or just regular boiled potatoes but chips are a bonus. Anyone who doesn't like them isn't going to be forced to eat them!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 25/01/2026 13:08

Nothin wrong with serving chips but my first thought/ go to would be potato salad or boiled potatoes and salad

lilkitten · 25/01/2026 16:18

I always have beans with quiche. Chips go with a lot of things when I'm feeling like comfort food though

I remember going to a schoolmate’s house for tea when I was about 8, and her mum served quiche with white rice. I like white rice, but it was an odd combo.

I definitely rate it served with baked beans though (beans don’t rate me, sadly), you can mop up the juice with the pastry. Chips seem like they’d be quite dry, with something that’s already fairly not-moist.

Edited

That’s why I have both chips and beans! My favourite childhood meal. A large homemade (vegetarian) quiche does me three days - one with buttery new or jacket potatoes and veg or salad, one with chips and beans, both warm, then cold with a salad and coleslaw for lunch for the third. Delish all ways. You need something moist on the plate!

This thread makes me want to cry!!!!!

I have chickens, I love love love eggs. Quiche is my absolute favourite.

Sadly, for no apparent reason I have developed a very serious egg allergy. WAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

so, mouth watering

quiche with salad, chips, coleslaw.
quiche with beans, chips, or mash.
quiche with new potatoes, salad, coleslaw.

quiche in any form at any time.

oooohhh. And beetroot. With all of the above

😂

Oh that’s very unfortunate about the egg allergy!! Especially as you have chickens!! 😱 Did you over do the egg consumption?!

Which is about the only time you need the triple carb meal!! 😂

Jack80 · 26/01/2026 09:22

Sadworld23 · 28/01/2026 06:15

Broccoli, bc we eat it with everything, peas and sweetcorn, likely add corn chops for texture.

bumphousebump · 28/01/2026 07:31

Jacket pots and salad and coleslaw (home made)

BottomsByTheirTops · 28/01/2026 08:26

This thread is reminding me of my Gran born 1907, to whom the item we are discussing was a bacon and egg flan.
When she discovered the posh word quiche, it became a ‘quick-y’ which always caused a snigger. ‘Would you like quick-y for lunch?
Team new pots/salad here.

Mykneesareshot · 29/01/2026 10:31

Chips and beans if hungry, just chips if not so.

Whatever you want it to be !

TheKateColumbo · 03/02/2026 15:42

I’ve never eaten Quiche, I’ve only seen it served as part of dodgy beige buffets.

luckylavender · 03/02/2026 16:14

Always coleslaw for me and sometimes a jacket too.
