Help us solve a family debate!! If you don’t serve chips what is the best side dish for a quiche?

I wonder what is more mentioned on this site

carbs
narcs
ND
mother in laws

Salad, coleslaw and new potatoes

Bernardo1 · 24/01/2026 20:39

Chips with quiche ? Not really.
Could be worse, I've been offered chips with lasagna.
As others said, salad most appropriate.

If chips the priority, then traditionally fish, or I find a nice gooey omelette a favourable match.

😆😆😆I suspect they would all be fairly close.

Nice crispy sauce potatoes.

The line between an eggy quiche and an omelette is a very short one, so I don’t think you’re too far away from appreciating quiche and chips tbh.

Spinach salad. Quiche and spinach salad was a staple menu item in the seventies and eighties in the fern bars. With white wine. Especially for the women--the guys ordered burgers.

One third is a limit, not a target.

It doesn't mean one third out of a list of three things, though. Especially as by that logic, they've already got far too much protein via the medium of bacon and cheese in addition to the egg.

BambinaCucina · 24/01/2026 22:41

I'm not a massive chip lover, but I do enjoy quiche, chips and beans. I do make homemade chips though.

Otherwise, I enjoy it with salad and coleslaw.

JMSA · 24/01/2026 23:04

Hmm, I’d probably go with salad and potato wedges.

ZestyDog · 24/01/2026 23:06

My teenage best friends mum used to serve us up M&S Quiche and oven chips every Saturday for tea.
They were mega rich and very posh.

Good grief, how thick are you making your pastry crust if it accounts for a third of the meal?!

Depends how big a slice of the quiche! And if you purchase a quiche, the pastry is quite often thicker than homemade…

That’s fine but not everyone has low-key orthorexia

A lot of people don’t get nutrition guidance, either. Balance is key.

kennycat · 24/01/2026 23:26

not had quiche as an adult (husband doesn’t like) but as a child we had flan a lot in the summer with new pots, beetroot and salad. can you even still buy flan?!

ImogenBrocklehurst · 25/01/2026 00:14

Depends. Supermarket quiche with beans. Homemade quiche with salad and some combination of new potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, rice salad or chips. Chips are definitely not weird with quiche.

Well, a bigger slice of quiche isn’t going to change the proportion of pastry…
To be honest, I don’t approach my food like a geometry challenge, but appreciate some people need to in order to keep themselves under control. If it works for you then great.

Chips, quiche and some salad? Retro really but a super tasty classic!

This
there isn’t much carb in the pastry
so some new potatoes or chips are fine. Not loads
plus salad
so greens, protein, carbs…..

namechangetheworld · 25/01/2026 00:43

I always serve it with chips and cold veg for the DC (and DH) and salad for me. I'm in no way shape or form a health nut (and usually love chips!) but I actually think the salad goes much more nicely.

Chips with lasagne is lovely to be fair. You can mop up the leftover sauce really well with a chip - but not a forkful of lettuce!

ExpectZeroContext · 25/01/2026 00:50

Lol. What a ridiculous concept.

mondaytosunday · 25/01/2026 01:26

Don’t really need any more starch with a quiche, so salad with lots of variety.

Robogob · 25/01/2026 01:42

Chips and beans.

Imsickofbeingsick · 25/01/2026 04:35

I like homemade potato salad

Chickadee001 · 25/01/2026 05:50

Oh lordy you're making me hungry - quiche with salad and either chips or baked spud is on of my all time fave meals!

Daftypants · 25/01/2026 09:20

We have quiche quite often but not always Quiche Lorraine.
Sometimes get a nice broccoli and tomato one from M&S or from Sainsburys.
If we are eating it for lunch we might have green salad 🥗 tomatoes 🍅 cucumber 🥒 basically whatever salad ingredients are in the fridge .
I like radish 🫜 too.
Or coleslaw. Bought or homemade .
If it’s what I’ve got in the fridge and we are having it as dinner then I might have chips , coleslaw, salad or even peas .
I am hungry now 😆
