I think it is incredibly selfish and feel that if they cannot (or will not) lose weight they should not have a baby. Much like smokers, alcoholics and drug users - if they cannot make an effort to be healthy for a pregnancy things will not improve once the baby is born.

i don't think it's selfish at all, but it can be dangerous for them and baby so losing weight would be a good idea. Losing weight is very very hard and some people want a baby very very much.

maybe things will improve when the baby is born? maybe having a new life to consider will be an incentive.

It only bothers me when they get IVF on the NHS, which I have known, which could go to a couple in a more likely state of health to succeed. However if we all had to wait to be perfect then I'm not sure anyone would be a parent!!

TigerFeet · 13/06/2008 14:09

I agree. All fat people should be sterilised.

At one point I was told by a GP that I was morbidly obese. At the time I was 14st 7lb and 5' 9". I was wearing size 18 clothes. Fat certainly, but morbidly obese? I was astonished. So - size 18 too fat to have a baby? I don't think so...

Lilliput · 13/06/2008 14:12

Are you obese? It's what your name implies.
I think overweight women need help and advice on trying to conceive or becoming pregnant. They need to be made aware of the risks to their own health and the health of their baby.
Food and overeating is just as much of an addiction as drugs and alcohol. Help is what is needed not sweeping statements.

TigerFeet · 13/06/2008 14:12

What on earth prompted you to start such a thread anotherfatty?

oh yes fat fecks on the council house wating list too. some of them even get benefits - well i dont think they should get benefits if all they are spending it on is chip butties ( with gravy mmm) NO says i. council houses should be for skinny people and my hard earned tax should not go to the likes of fatso who would rather lounge on arse all day eating cheese and onion Macoys rather than go get a job.

lazy fecks

Chandon · 13/06/2008 14:13

yabu. It´s not you decision, but the woman´s, her partner and her doctor´s.

Twelvelegs · 13/06/2008 14:14

I don't think anyone in the throws of addiction would have the insight not ttc, some may think it will give them a reason to stop.
