In thinking morbidly obese women should not be trying to concieve?

I think it is incredibly selfish and feel that if they cannot (or will not) lose weight they should not have a baby. Much like smokers, alcoholics and drug users - if they cannot make an effort to be healthy for a pregnancy things will not improve once the baby is born.

Are you saying the risk isn't any higher? Don't you think the food you eat has any effect on the health of your body?

wotulookinat · 13/06/2008 15:03

An idiot tax is a good idea.

Alambil · 13/06/2008 15:03

I was morbidly obese when I fell pregnant with my DS.

I fell pregnant due to marital rape.

Would you have liked me to abort or give him up for adoption because I was fat?

Tough shit. All I had was the normal tests, not even an amnio and no drugs through the labour; ergo not so much money was spent on me - the morbidly obese pregnant lady as the size 12 lady who had epidurals and all sorts as she shared to the ward.

too true, wotu! I'd have to pay a tall tax, don't like the sound of that

Hope you know what I mean though, IMHO, it's political correctness gone mad to say that morbid obesity is not a major risk in pregnancy. I do mean morbid obesity not overweight so that's talking (i think) women with a BMI of 40+, which is significant. It is better to be honest, rather than pussy-footing round people with this condition, for the benefit of their own health.

bonkerz · 13/06/2008 15:05

i AM ACTUALLY CLASSED AS MORBIDLY OBESE as i am over 10 stone heavier than my ideal weight apparently. I am a very active person im not lazy, YES i eat crap BUT i object to being told my weight will mean my DCs will be overweight! Look at my profile. My DCS are very slim, they eat VERY healthily. My DCS are also VERY active.

My DS is UNDER weight - get that... an underweight kid with a morbidly obese mother; shocker!

rebelmum1 · 13/06/2008 15:07

So you don't think diet has anything to do with it?

rebelmum1 · 13/06/2008 15:08

It's what you actually eat that counts where health is concerned not the size you are.

beansmum · 13/06/2008 15:09

of course it's about food! the reasons for eating too much and not exercising may be complicated but the fact is if you eat less and move more you will lose weight.

bonkerz · 13/06/2008 15:09

does this theory also go for the women who are UNDERWEIGHT then as surely there are implications for the baby then too!

bonkerz · 13/06/2008 15:10

I know a mum who is VERY slim and her 3 year old checks the calories on packets before eating anything! SURELY thats a worry isnt it?????

Nemoandthefishes · 13/06/2008 15:15

Another morbidly obese and yet my dc arent they dont bloody stop and do you know I dont either really. I play with them, go swimming, play football, we walk for 1hr a day at least and I exercise I just like eating crap of a night when they are in bed. We have a healthy balanced diet otherwise. When I am pg I always end up going off chocolate etc but thats fine. I do also consciously try to not snack as much while pregnant.

AtheneNoctua · 13/06/2008 15:16

Oh yes please, Bonkerz, can we make illegal for Posh to have any more children. Please please please...

Bonkerz - of course if you are underweight you should not try to concieve either because there are significant risks to your baby.

wotulookinat · 13/06/2008 16:18

so you should only TTC if you are EXACTLY the right weight

EyeballsintheSky · 13/06/2008 16:26

I opened this thread with my dander up (LOL) ready to stand my ground as the size 20 mother of a gorgeously perfect dd. But you lot make me laugh and so I can't be arsed to fight! No matter what some arse headed troglodyte posts, you lot always put them in their place. I love mnet!

ellideb · 13/06/2008 16:30

How can you compare people with weight problems with people who are drug addicts? Different kettle of fish. Who says anybody has to be a perfect size 10 in order to have children? Get real. We are only human and do not live in a perfect world.

Elmosgirl · 13/06/2008 16:33

What about people on benefits, or people whose partners work away, people who have a history of depression...would they be included as not having a good enough lifestyle for a baby.

When people have babies is really none of your business.

wotulookinat · 13/06/2008 16:36

the best bit of advice I was given when DH and I were thinking about having a baby was that there would never be the perfect time to have one. And now we have a gorgeous son I'm glad I listened and had a baby when I felt the time was ok, despite not everything (including my weight!) being perfect.

NorthernLurker · 13/06/2008 16:43

what a very unpleasant op. i'm afraid I must join the chorus who have advised you, in slightly different words, to take yourself off please. YABU - and very cruel imo
