In thinking morbidly obese women should not be trying to concieve?

I think it is incredibly selfish and feel that if they cannot (or will not) lose weight they should not have a baby. Much like smokers, alcoholics and drug users - if they cannot make an effort to be healthy for a pregnancy things will not improve once the baby is born.

Lilliput · 13/06/2008 14:31

Stephen Fry has said that swearing is one of his most favourite things to do, I do not think he has an exhausted mind. Swearing can infact be very clever.

Chequers to your self congratulation in guessing someone with a name like anotherfatty is overweight!

I think it's only a question if there are limited resources like IVF and then health could have an impact.

Nemoandthefishes · 13/06/2008 14:34

i am responding because I have done all my housework, my dds are in nursery and ds is swinging from the rafters

edam · 13/06/2008 14:34

BEAUTlFUL · 13/06/2008 14:38

I have not 'ripped the shit' out of anyone and there is a big difference between being overweight and morbidly obese.

Anotherfatty, I think it's more important to have a sense of right and wrong and know when not to speak your opinion before you parent than lose weight. I do think parents that are obese and especially morbidly obese are selfish as it happens, I think that this increases the risk of early death and leaving your child without you and giving your child a dim view of health and fitness and I'm sure more prone to an eating disorder of some sort. I understand it's more complex than that but I feel the same about people who smoke and drink excessively.
In response to the IVF issue it is in short supply as is a postcode lottery, but to give it out to people supposedly desperate to parent but remain very overweight and are less likely to concieve is pretty scandalous when women who have taken all appropriate are not given the same oppertunity.

anotherfatty · 13/06/2008 14:43

Health risks are gestational diabetes which I had in my first pregnancy and a greater risk of stillbirth/other complications.

It is also advisable to learn to write before you post on a parenting site!!

There are risks to pregnancy for all sorts of reasons... why pick on the obese as the only people not deserving of TTC?

You compare it to drug addiction - hardly in the same league is it?

Twelvelegs · 13/06/2008 14:46

Chequers, in the trolls defence I do think that morbidly obese are comparable to drug addicts in that they suffer an addiction/illness that they cannot control. I can't imagine doing anything as self destructive as eating your way to an early death. Perhaps if we viewed it more illness and addiction and less greedy and lazy more could be done to help these people.

wotulookinat · 13/06/2008 14:47

Well I am obese. I had a very healthy baby. It's a shame that many of the doctors and midwives that I encountered during my pregancy and birth had the same feelings as anotherfatty.
So, anotherfatty, you can fuck right off and stick your salad up your arse because I am off for a chocolate biscuit.
And by the way, Custardo, I am also on the council waiting list so ner.

Twelvelegs · 13/06/2008 14:47
