To wonder if past trauma was a factor in the Renee Nicole Good murder and that, while not absolving agent, it shows ICE should select agents more carefully?

Reading this from the BBC, I wonder if the agent was suffering from previous trauma. They had earlier been in the Iraq War and then had huge number of stitches after being dragged by a car while arresting apparently a 'child sex offender' illicit migrant last March.

Thus I wonder if, because Renee Good clipped them with the car earlier(as The Times indicates), shooting at her car as she drove past was less a rational decision borne from evil and more an instinctive reaction from recent trauma with cars on the job?

This is NOT an excuse. But I wonder if it also shows that ICE are selecting traumatised agents who are too dangerous, due to this, to be in that position?

ICE agent in Minnesota shooting was dragged by car in June

The officer was injured in a separate case that also involved a car pulling away during an investigation.

Our digital producer @sam.vp just so happened to be with the clergy on their journey

…. an MJ journalist just happens to be traveling with this group? What a coincidence 🤨

At least you are not trying to defend ICE this time, or are you?

If you think this is worth supporting

-"forcibly entered homes without a judge’s warrant"
-"interrogated people because of their ethnicity or accents"
-"broke windows and dragged occupants from their cars"
-"used force on people who were already restrained"

Videos From Minnesota Show How Aggressive ICE Has Gotten During Arrests and Encounters With Protesters

For weeks, residents have documented the impact of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign and captured many violent confrontations on camera.

Of course they are following any targets because the world has seen the abuse

You don't believe in the legal system then?

Given they are supporting ICE tactics, I think we can make an assumption here…

I think the concepts that boost an obscure term into wider usage is more important, actually, and are what should be credited.

It doesn't prove what you wanted it to prove though, does it?

They are asylum seekers, so they can now have their case heard at ICE facilities, just as under Obama.

They came in late 2024 via the CBP app, so they could have given up their asylum claims, got exit money and free plane fare. Now they’ll get nothing.

Reading the story, she had a nosebleed. Why would you go to the ER for a nosebleed? People complain when the ER is filled up, but never ask themselves why. This is why.

Nosebleeds that don’t stop after 20-30 minutes can be dangerous. I assume these parents must’ve been quite worried to seek medical treatment. Especially in the current climate.

Thank god, we do have people documenting these events. I hope one day they can be used to prosecute ICE agents. Though I suspect with the damage that Trump‘s doing it will be a very long time.

RingoJuice · 24/01/2026 13:00

No, during the Biden years, anyone could claim asylum after illegally crossing the border. Didn’t matter how credible the claim was …

Whereas Obama generally kept them in a facility and tried to process the claims quickly (and reject most), Biden scrapped the whole thing and allowed them to live in the community. The ‘catch and release’.

They could then get work permits and make money while waiting for their asylum claims to be heard. You can understand what an incredible pull factor this was and millions of South and Central Americans flooded the border to take advantage.

Those with work permits also pay tax. You forgot that bit.

Unconfirmed at the moment

There is video circulating on social media of a group of ICE agents beating a man near 26th and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, then one of the ICE agents shoots the man while he's on the ground numerous times. A witness can be heard yelling that the victim is dead.

jannier · 24/01/2026 15:56

Why is it that any comment that supports any human rights, shows compassion to other humans or says ice should follow the law is automatically branded as leftist? Dont right wing followers believe in the law, compassion or human rights?

'does everyone in your circle have the same lack of empathy, humanity and understanding as you, or are they as aghast at your blind following and defence of Trump, Ice and his inhumane policies as I am?'

'This isn't meant as an attack, just a genuine attempt to try to understand a thought process and value base'

This isn't meant an attack? Do you ever reread what you post?

Ringo has patiently and actually politely challenged and corrected all the nazi hysteria. They seem to know a lot more than some of the agitator cheerleaders on here.

Nazi? Agitator?

Trump has designs on Venezuela, Canada, Greenland and quite possibly Iceland (which he has mentioned too often for it to be a slip of the tongue): The place where I live was occupied by Nazi Germany during WW11. There are reminders everywhere, concrete bunkers, towers etc and my family endured the occupation, so excuse me for seeing parallels with the 1930s.

America needs to wake up and see what the rest of the world sees when it looks at Trump and his henchmen.

Let’s wait for the facts to come out on this one.

However this is interesting phrasing:

"I was observing the ICE agents as they were bringing out those two young men," Vermie said. "And then they started moving toward the vehicles to detain them and they were pushing people on the sidewalk where I was and then an agent approached me and told me to move back and attempted to push me and I didn’t let him."

… attempted to push me and I didn’t let him … 🤔

I dont let people push me I stand up to them why are you confused by what was said?

It’s a tactic, they use specific phrases like ‘crazed leftists.’

It’s usually busted out when we’re talking about shooting women and detaining children.

I take it as a compliment these days, it means you’re saying something factual they want to refute.

The two people here don’t need to wake up. They know and are fully in support.

They’ve asked us to stop using the term, Nazi, and I think they’re right. We’ve been using it to warn of where this regime could end up and to illustrate the dangers in the parallels of how ICE behave. But we’re already there, ICE have shown us they’re willing to kill people, to abduct families and children, to attack with chemicals. Who needs the term Nazi when now you can just say ICE.

Haven't you already said this? I know there's a lot of repetition but this seems word for word.

Anyway. They aren't nazis we've been through this. They are armed law enforcement officers. Not the same thing.

In the US there are no "left wing" parties of significance. There's a centre-right party and a far-right one. The Greens aren't a major player. Otherwise you just have decent individuals like Bernie Sanders who would be considered "centrists" in many European countries.

GoodGriefCharlie · 24/01/2026 16:40

There is no limit to what they feel entitled to do.

Jon Favreau on Instagram has just posted about what they’re doing and where we are now. It’s fucking terrifying.

They were enforcing the law. The fact that the law was one that would never exist in a civilised country is neither here nor there, apparently.
