Basically this, anyone else still get takeaway on a Friday evening after the long week? Getting a Chinese tonight. and I’m so excited.

At least once a week, but not always a Friday.

1apenny2apenny · 09/01/2026 13:16

No because I haven’t found a decent Chinese si have given up. Our local Indian takeaway seems to involve pre cooked chicken breast in a sauce and with bhajis at 2.50 each I give it a miss. I find either Cook, M&S or Waitrose fakeaway much better value, nicer and healthier.

Fontet · 09/01/2026 13:17

No more take out for us….tasteless, expensive and unhealthy …

NoTouch · 09/01/2026 13:18

We will have one most weeks either Indian or Chinese. Maybe from the chip shop a couple of times a year. Never McDonald’s, KFC or pizza as I just don’t enjoy them, I rarely eat burgers or pizza anywhere.

Takeaways every week are not “unhealthy”, it depends on what you get and portion size - a full portion of deep fried chicken balls/fried rice/chips/sweet sauce is a million miles from a large freshly grilled chicken kebab/extra salad/one pitta and a tomato based chilli sauce or a grilled beef Chinese dish with 1/2 portion of rice.

Thehandinthecookiejar · 09/01/2026 13:19

Used to get Chinese every Friday when I was a child. Good times. (And it was the 80s so no one cared it was unhealthy 😂)

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 13:07

@Megifer But then might you release a massive garlic-scented burp when the slapping begins? I hope you’ll have a rennie before the kink.

I have Pepto Bismol waiting just in case my lucky day does arrive 😃

Sadly the only thing Im likely to get lightly slapped with is the takeaway bill 😔

HorrorFan81 · 09/01/2026 13:22

We did for over a year. But I put a fair bit of weight on in that time period so more like monthly now. We do tend to have an easy dinner on a Friday tho, fresh ravioli and pesto tonight, one of my faves and takes 5 mins

momahoho1 · 09/01/2026 13:22

No because local take away options are very limited, poor quality compared to what I can cook with a few simple ingredients. I’m not a martyr, we eat out most weeks on Saturdays but I can’t be dealing with spending £40 on a takeaway Chinese. We are having Indian food tonight but I’m cooking it - so easy to cook authentic style food from scratch (chicken makiani with cumin and garlic green beans, lemon rice and paratha, i didn’t make the bread, its cook from frozen) I marinate the meat from the day before, rice is leftover from last week, frozen quickly and thawing currently, every else takes about 25 minutes which is less time than calling a takeaway. One day I’ll make a book of my recipes, all from friends who are of Indian heritage then corrupted by me to suit my tastes

Hedjwitch · 09/01/2026 13:23

No. Too expensive. Might have a few during the course of the year but no way weekly.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 13:24

@Megifer some day your pleather gloved gender neutral slapper will come. Hold fast! And pepto looks like pink slime, are you sure you want to swallow it?

Wexone · 09/01/2026 13:24

We do every single Saturday, we lucky our takeaways still reasonable priced and as well we are small eaters, one bag od chips between us is enough, same for Chinese, only order one main between us and get a starter for sharing keeps cost down, Only two of us in the house though. I look forward to it, its our treat, we don't get anything else really, i cook every other night of the week, so love the fact i don't have to cook or even think about what to cook. We live rurally so no delivery so do have to drive 10 mins to collect it. 3 chippers, 1 Chinese and 1 pizza place in our small town, have been there for years, they are all busy any time i go into either of them, so not the only ones getting takeaways

daffodilandtulip · 09/01/2026 13:24

Hardly ever now. If we do, I really look forward to it as a treat, then it's just a disappointment. And costs an absolute fortune.

We got Chinese as our Christmas Eve tradition. Portion sizes were tiny, the meat was significantly padded out with carrots and onions, it was tasteless, it went cold within seconds.

elliejjtiny · 09/01/2026 13:24

No. Takeaways are a special occasion thing in our house. Although we have just come back from lunch out because dc1 is going back to uni tomorrow.

onceagainforrose · 09/01/2026 13:26

Probably once a month we get a large portion of chips at after school club pick up (5.30-6), and then have eggs and peas with it at home. Never have oven chips though so this is it, chip wise!

takeaways 1-2 a year, but the choice here isn’t great and the effects of a takeaway Indian aren’t great for me (home made daal etc is fine though). If I had sushi, Thai or Vietnamese capable of being delivered, I’d campaign for more…

Grumpiest2026 · 09/01/2026 13:26

No. But we do have Toby carvery when they do their half price week email

GasPanic · 09/01/2026 13:26

I am the only one that is feeling a bit porked out still since Christmas.

I am not a teeny tiny how can you eat more that a lettuce leaf a week person but I am still feeling a bit in the Christmas over indulgence zone at the moment.

Maybe that is why everyone was calling my Christmas food budget spending "obsene". Because they spend 1/10th the amount but load up with takeaways all the way through Jan.

CantBreathe90 · 09/01/2026 13:28

I literally can't remember our last take-out - used to be most Fridays. We live in a city with lots of choice, however they are either £20 odd per person, or you can really taste that they have cut corners 🤢

Tryintobe · 09/01/2026 13:28

Used too but budget and adult children quite often doing their own thing it just doesn't have the same appeal.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 13:28

@GasPanic was it four figures or five? Sounds like you’ve made the most of it! I’ve been eating my selection box today, cheese yesterday… we plough on!

Changename12 · 09/01/2026 13:29

I do get the attraction of not having to think about food, but I am not keen on takeaways. They always seem cold and greasy. The only time we have one is when our adult children turn up unexpectedly and it is easy just to ask them what takeaway they want. We eat out quite a lot but I think it is easier to put a ready meal in the microwave than order a takeaway.

RaraRachael · 09/01/2026 13:29

Takeaway oncs a month and lunch out once a month

Mydogisagentleman · 09/01/2026 13:30

I wish.
Our takeaway options are awful.
I love going to visit our DD in Nottingham for the food variety

Chiaseedling · 09/01/2026 13:30

Last time we did a weekly takeaway was in lockdown.

Yes we do :) although usually a saturday...we eat healthily all week often following a vege/vegan diet, kids eat plenty of fruit and are very active in clubs and hobbies, a takeaway is our little treat.
We dont have huge portions either....well my boyf does 😂 as an example a portion of sweet and sour and a portion salt and pepper chips is enough for me and the 2 kids

All aboit moderation I think. I reckon what me and the kids eat across 4 takeaway nights might cover what one person might eat in one sitting 😂

We also go out for a carvery every so often and me and boyf try and go for a meal once a month just us

ImALittlePea · 09/01/2026 13:31

Never weekly by way of habit, but probably 2-3 per month in recent months, and more regularly over Christmas. Nipped in the bud now, we need to save £ so have agreed to save an eating treat for once a month. Likely a lunch or meal out with the kids as opposed to takeaway. Shame as we do enjoy them, but looking forward to seeing some benefits on the bank and the waistline in the next couple of months (and beyond!)

Enjoy your Chinese though. Our go-to is pizza, I love it when I convince DH to get Chinese!
