Basically this, anyone else still get takeaway on a Friday evening after the long week? Getting a Chinese tonight. and I’m so excited.

Weekly no because of cost mostly. We do a nicer meal on saturday though, so some kind of burgers, fakeaway, more indulgent meal than mon-friday.

weegiemum · 09/01/2026 12:06

We used to but we’re now both on WLI and just don’t fancy it any more. Saves money too!!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2026 12:07

DH and I very rarely these days. DS gets pizza fairly regularly. We get fish and chips every few months.

We have a nice village pub within a five minute walk so tend to go there rather than get a takeaway as it tends to be more sociable as we will normally meet people.

If we fancy Indian we often buy the starters and naans etc from the supermarket and DH makes the curry.

I do quite fancy a proper Indian takeaway now though having thought about it!

MightyGoldBear · 09/01/2026 12:08

I'd love to 😋 couldn't afford every week though. We just do special occasions.

When we was in the messy part of a renovation knocking down walls no kitchen everywhere felt dirty. A take away would get me through. It was bliss.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/01/2026 12:10

Am I the only one who does it the opposite way? We tend to avoid take away fri-sun because we got tired of the food taking ages and being cold because it's so busy so we have one mid week. Food is delivered quicker and hot, plus I have plenty of time over the weekend to make involved dishes or a more intensive recipe.

Seasaltchips · 09/01/2026 12:11

No - we get one maybe twice a year

We sometimes get those M&S Indian takeaway boxes though

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 09/01/2026 12:11

I have a fillet steak every Friday. Cheaper than a takeaway, takes minutes to cook and much healthier too. My Friday treat!

HeadyLamarr · 09/01/2026 12:14

Yes, takeaway every week here as well. Usually pizza but today it's Chinese.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 09/01/2026 12:14

Yes, every Friday.

Although I work Saturdays so it's not the end of the working week for me.

But it is for DH so he cooks dinner on Saturdays anyway.

FunnyOrca · 09/01/2026 12:15

We have a (quite simple) favourite meal that we have every Friday. It’s something to look forward to! If we go out to eat or do
something special on a Friday, then my anticipation builds all the more for the following Friday! 😂

Takeaways in our house always feel more like a punishment as it’s when the routine has been thrown off and the chance of making dinner has failed.

This will always descend into “people on here are teeny tiny people who have never eaten a crisp, I eat takeaways every week” vs “what’s a take away? Gosh, that sounds awful? Someone coming to your home and ringing your doorbell? With greasy food for you to gobble??”

meh. We have them sometimes, not regularly, might have one tomorrow. Might not bother.

Edited

Can’t lie I only commented because I’m bored at work and was hoping for a bun fight to watch.

Gowlett · 09/01/2026 12:16

Special occasions only. We used to get take-away more often.
But, it’s the prices now. Same with eating out. Very rare!

That’s exactly what my grandparents used to have every Friday without fail. They had it with fried onions and very soft boiled potatoes with butter! As a child I used to beg to stay for dinner to have fried onion and buttery potatoes! I had no interest in the steak!

Meadowfinch · 09/01/2026 12:17

No, can't afford it.

I buy a pepperoni pizza and some garlic bread for ds, make him a salad to go with the meal.

I make myself a veggie chilli and clear the vegetable drawer of the fridge.

£2.80 and some slightly floppy veg, rather than £35.

GasPanic · 09/01/2026 12:17

I normally have fish and chips on a friday night, but have not done so over christmas. Maybe will start up again in Feb after dry january is finished.

All feels a bit excessive given the consumption of Christmas.

HairyToity · 09/01/2026 12:17

Maybe twice a year takeaway, and eat out once a month. Haven't done weekly takeaways / eating out for over a decade. Can't afford to, and not great for my waistline.

Funnywonder · 09/01/2026 12:17

We did for years, but it’s too expensive now. Our local Chinese takeaway isn’t as good as it used to be and I’m really bad at trying new places. Also, they only take cash which is a right pain in the arse. But yeah, if it was still nice and I could still afford it, I would be there every week😅 We order pizza about once a month.

MagicStarrz · 09/01/2026 12:18

I get one takeaway lunch a week from my favourite lunch place. For evenings at home it's less because they're not that good.

IceStationZebra · 09/01/2026 12:18

We usually get one midweek as it’s much easier to chill out and cook something good on a weekend!

PersephoneSmith · 09/01/2026 12:19

No, I don't get takeaways when I'm at home, there's juts me and I can do better quicker.

I do eat out every Saturday though, usually go into London to see a show and have a nice meal out, sometimes cheap and cheerful (for London!) sometimes pricier.

TheLyricalDanceFlap · 09/01/2026 12:19

😆@FurForksSake

We get a takeaway about once a month but eat out once a week at least.
There are only a few trustworthy takeaways near us so it would be a bit samey to have weekly.

This is my go-to Saturday dinner but we still have a takeaway every Friday.

I have my steak with peppercorn sauce, prawns and salad and thoroughly look forward to it!

MushyPeasAndMintSauce · 09/01/2026 12:25

We tend to probably on average of once a week but we only have a small amount so it's like £23 for Chinese £30 for Indian so we don't find that too bad.
Might pick a chipshop up midweek on occasion but we only spend about £6/7.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 12:25

@bostonchamps Perhaps we can start our own bun fight?! 🤣 are you a gobbler or a teeny tiny?

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/01/2026 12:25

No, we've never had a takeaway weekly. Nowadays it's probably 3 or 4 times per year. We cannot afford it!! (joint income around £70,000).
