Pretty much never. Like I can't remember the last time we got takeaway! If we're not cooking I prefer to eat out

anon666 · 11/01/2026 09:17

I wish! To be fair, its mainly because dh seems to have developed a physical allergy to takeaways. We think it's the salt / sugar content. My daughter and I still get them from time to time but it feels mean.

£40-£50 round here easily for a family takeaway - that's over £2k a year! Can't afford it, can't justify it.

LBA40 · 11/01/2026 10:25

We often have one on Tuesdays because it’s “Cheeky Tuesday” on JustEat and you get 20% off at lot of places on there! Not every week though. Maybe once a month on average and my mum always balks at the fact we spend the money on it that frequently!

I have a takeaway perhaps once a year, if that. My preference is fish and chips, but the van no longer comes to the village and it’s certainly not worth a 15 mile round trip to town, so it’s only ever a treat at the end of a walk on a north Norfolk beach.

When my son visits from abroad every year or so he might get an Indian takeaway delivered.

Not always on a Friday but I will get one most weeks, I do try not to get one too often ad I did go through a phase where I was getting one 3-4 times a week as I struggle with meal planning and cooking (ADHD) and my bank balance was definitely feeling the effects but I still give in to temptation most weeks as will have a day I just cannot face making something myself.

At least once a month we do Pizza or Chinese.

Last night though we did a big Chinese fake-away night and I honestly think it’s ruined us for takeaway. The egg rolls were so much better.

Teajenny7 · 11/01/2026 15:14

No, prefer to go out to eat.

HardyMauveQuoter · 11/01/2026 18:54

Fri, Sat Sun 😬

angela1952 · 12/01/2026 09:45

My DD has one delivered for herself and DGC most Fridays as a treat. It's usually their only unhealthy meal of the week so I don't think it hurts, and it's not expensive.

Brightlittlecanary · 12/01/2026 09:53

No, not really any more. Can’t recall the last one. We used to before we both went on wli and now the appeal is simply not there. We do however go out to dinner two or three times a month, as that’s more about the social experience also rather than just food

surprised so many folks live near bad takeaway places though, I do wonder if it’s more they cook their own food their own way and prefer that, rather than its poor, and of course cost. Ours round us the food is usually very good.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 12/01/2026 10:43

I’d rather go eat in a restaurant if I’m going to spend so much on food. Costs about the same nowadays anyway.

I can count on the fingers on one hand the number of times ive refused a takeaway 🤣

😂 Same

KimberleyClark · 12/01/2026 12:24

We have a curry once a month.

Tbh I think a really good quality ready meal like Charlie Bigham is better value than a takeaway.

Daftypants · 15/01/2026 17:41

We very rarely have takeaway food .
The options where we are aren’t that great , if we lived in the city I think we might get it more than once in a blue moon.
I would love a break from cooking sometimes ( no one else cooks or cleans up ever and I do ALL the domestic stuff )
I will say my Asian meals are tasty and quick though , especially East Asian
Also a PP mentioned higher end ready meals are often better value than a takeaway although of course there are veg to prep to go with it and a bit of cleaning up

selfcentred · 15/01/2026 18:31

We have a takeaway about 4/5 times a year - when I’m on my knees, usually!
