Basically this, anyone else still get takeaway on a Friday evening after the long week? Getting a Chinese tonight. and I’m so excited.

About once a year

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/01/2026 12:26

No. It’s not something we’ve ever done.

TreeDudette · 09/01/2026 12:27

No, we are too rural and nowhere delivers so it would be about 40minute round drive to the nearest and that is bad kebab. We do go out for Saturday breakfast once per week though.

bumphousebump · 09/01/2026 12:29

There are no decent ones near us, it’s all brown slop or sugary orange slop. It’s a shame as visit friends who have amazing takeaways round the corner, with healthy nice food and crunch and vegetables…and I’m sore jealous. We’d have one every Friday if there was a decent one. It’s go out, posh ready meal or cook round here.

JuliesName · 09/01/2026 12:29

I cannot make a good Chinese to save my life, so I do have that every week or 2! And now I want one again, thank you!

bostonchamps · 09/01/2026 12:30

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 12:25

@bostonchamps Perhaps we can start our own bun fight?! 🤣 are you a gobbler or a teeny tiny?

I practice this magic thing called balance, I eat healthily (not teeny tiny but mindfully) 5 days a week and then I GOBBLE EVERYTHING IN SIGHT 2 days a week.

Miranda65 · 09/01/2026 12:31

I'm pretty old, but I have never got a takeaway on a Friday evening!

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 12:32

@bostonchamps hmmmm sounds fishy. I’ve never heard of balance. Is it like swimming world? 🤣

I enjoy Iceland donner kebab meat and fillet steak, I’d probably eat it together… but only once a month! 🤭

maddiemookins16mum · 09/01/2026 12:35

Not any more. Our average takeaway would cost £25-30 - that can add up to nearly £1.5K a year if we had one weekly. We stick to every other pay day now and probably enjoy it more that way.

LadyKenya · 09/01/2026 12:35

No, I prefer my cooking. I used to get a fish and chips takeaway, once in a while, but not any more since the prices went up, and the quality went down. I never got things like pizza, Chinese food to takeaway, etc.

Usually one mid week as it’s a quick convenient meal. Either sushi or Vietnamese (both I rarely make at home, so it feels like a treat). We are very lucky where we live and have access to some amazing restaurants.

When we’re in the city we have a lot more takeaways because there are options like these. I miss my old favourite Lebanese place…

Near us the only options are Pizza places, the odd Chinese and Indian, and countless shite American food places with burgers, onion rings and milkshakes. So I don’t really bother beyond the occasional Indian after a long flight or something.

MyMilchick · 09/01/2026 12:38

Mondays for us, they're always hectic so it's nice to not have to cook on top of all the rushing around!

TomatoSandwiches · 09/01/2026 12:10

Am I the only one who does it the opposite way? We tend to avoid take away fri-sun because we got tired of the food taking ages and being cold because it's so busy so we have one mid week. Food is delivered quicker and hot, plus I have plenty of time over the weekend to make involved dishes or a more intensive recipe.

We are similar, we tend to get things on Thursdays because DC have clubs that run late so it’s nice to have something quick and easy. However we don’t do this every week and actually instead of takeaways we’re more likely to get M&S ready meals. The DC are only young so we get them a macaroni cheese to share and then me and DH will have one of their Indian takeaway boxes. It’s much cheaper and just as nice. It’s only chinese that we buy from the takeaway as I think that’s harder to replicate. We get Chinese maybe three times a year and will buy Indian ready meals in lieu of a takeaway maybe once a month.

outdooryone · 09/01/2026 12:40

Last take away I had was in September. And it was not that nice really.

I can cook nicer food myself for (a lot) less money.

I do travel for work a lot so do eat out when away however, so this may cloud my 'i personally do not eat out or get takeaways' line.

Girasoli · 09/01/2026 12:40

Not on a Friday as the kids have swimming lessons so we always eat something odd/in a rush.
DH takes DS1 to McDonalds most Sundays after his football matches as they can be spread all over the county so they don't usually get home until around 2pm.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 09/01/2026 12:42

Used to but we live rurally and no one delivers so it means someone has to traipse out in the cold which lessens the appeal. Also, very few takeout options - Chinese, Indian, pizza or Fish and chips only. Plus I work away a lot and get sick of trying to find half healthy places to eat in places I don't know. Sad times.

Liftedmeup · 09/01/2026 12:44

No, we’ve never done that. I’m very surprised that people do it as a regular thing like that. You could count on the fingers of one hand the number of takeaways I’ve ever had in my life.

Same.

BlackCat14 · 09/01/2026 12:46

My parents routinely get one every other Friday!

My boyfriend and I tend to get a couple a month, but we usually go for a random Tuesday when we’re knackered from work and can’t be bothered cooking- nice midweek treat.

What makes your very surprised about it?

I can count on the fingers on one hand the number of times ive refused a takeaway 🤣

purplecorkheart · 09/01/2026 12:49

No we don't. Limited enough choice around us and what is there is not great. We do though to beige freezer food some Fridays or pizza.

footballmum · 09/01/2026 12:50

We do. Sometimes we have two! We can afford it and are in an area where there are lots available. I’m the only overweight one in the house but have lost 3 stone in the last 12 months so it hasn’t impacted on my weight loss. I eat sensibly the rest of the week. Awaiting the snarky responses!

ForRealViper · 09/01/2026 12:50

I buy one as and when I want one, just like anything else.

"Treats" are for dogs and toddlers. I'm a grown woman. I really do think that calling food "a treat" sets up an unhelpful fetishistic relationship with it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/01/2026 12:52

We have lived in this house for 20 years and have never had a take away delivered.
