Never have. But we eat out once a week

Ohhohoho · 09/01/2026 13:58

We used to but stopped for a bit as I was on a holiday diet. Now whenever we get a takeaway I find I feel awful afterwards, almost like I have a hangover. So now we only really get one on special occasions.

I wish DH liked sushi as would happy get sushi delivered every weekend.

Sugargliderwombat · 09/01/2026 13:58

Nope! I much prefer going to waitrose and buying £30 worth of bits for a nice meal, takeaways are so small and greasy and expensive now. Much better to have a wander around and buy some nice treats.

AppropriateAdult · 09/01/2026 13:59

Yes, we do - every Friday without fail. I really look forward to it at the end of the week. Think we’ll opt for a Chinese tonight…

TubeScreamer · 09/01/2026 14:00

Not for 20 odd years. We don’t have any takeaways nearby.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 09/01/2026 12:48

What makes your very surprised about it?

It’s just very expensive, and the food isn’t often that nice. The couple of times we’ve done it, it arrives cold. I suppose it depends what you call a takeaway, though. Fish and chips on the beach at the seaside is lovely.

Didimum · 09/01/2026 14:02

Too expensive for every week now. Ours is about £40 for just DH and I, £50 with the twins as well, and it most often feels not worth it at all. I'd say we are once a month.

Yip! And usually go for dinner on a Wednesday to break the week up 😂

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 09/01/2026 14:05

We always have an Indian takeaway on a Saturday night. If we don't it means we're out usually eating something else.
Even when we were working we didn't have one on a Friday, go figure! I think it started when we were returning from a Saturday football match.
As others have said it's about balance (both health and money) We cook healthy meals from scratch every other night.

Busydaybadge · 09/01/2026 14:12

We used to get a takeaway every Friday but havent now for years, except the occasional fish and chips. The quality has gone downhill but prices have increased. £25 for 2 pizzas or £40 for a takeaway curry is not worth it imo.

treesandsun · 09/01/2026 14:15

i hardly ever get a take away these days. I used regularly get one on a Friday and even sometimes on a Saturday but I rarely get one these days partly because of the cost ,partly because the quality just doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be and partly because I'm trying to lose weight and always chose unhealthy options. I tell myself I'm doing it for the health reasons but I think mostly it's because I really begrudge the price.

zingally · 09/01/2026 14:19

Sadly not.

Friday's is our busy evening of various comings and goings, and everyone has some variation of a ready meal. I've got a frozen lasagne, which I have to bolt down in between activities. Everyone is home by 8:45 and then we'll catch up on The Traitors.

Nezukokamado · 09/01/2026 14:21

No just because it's too unhealthy for weekly, it always makes me feel a bit bleurgh after. So, sort of one a month!

BlackCatDiscoClub · 09/01/2026 14:23

Fortnightly here, and we do it Thursday night so it feels like the beginning of the weekend! 😂

Squ1ggle · 09/01/2026 14:24

oh we love a takeaway in this house, not every week though, maybe once a month as a payday treat or every now and then if meal plans fail.

We have been making more 'fakeaway' dishes, we've bought some of The Spicery legend kits. We have the Curry, Taco and Noodle ones and we've had so many nice meals using the recipes and spices, highly recommend them for those people trying to recreate takeaway meals at home.

bloomchamp · 09/01/2026 13:55

There’s four of us in our house. Everytime we decide to have a takeaway there’s a long debate about what to have. One can’t eat Chinese, one hates Indian food, another isn’t a fan of chippy. We go round in circles for an hour. Someone goes off in a strop. I cook pasta lol!

😂

mindutopia · 09/01/2026 14:26

Nope, though we never have. It’s a long drive to any takeaways and I think they’re a bit crap compared to my own cooking.

We get one maybe 3-4 times a year at most, Christmas Eve, maybe for dc’s birthdays, sometimes a random weekend when Dh is away and it’s just me home with dc and we feel up for a road trip!

RosesAndHellebores · 09/01/2026 14:36

We never have. Why pay a huge premium for fatty, salty, carby and usually poor quality, albeit tasty food.

It's a quick to thrown steak, salmon, seabass, etc, into a pan, crisp some slices of potato with pepper and parmesan, olive oil, in the oven for 45 minutes, serve with a nice salad and/or asparagus or roasted veg.

champagneplanet · 09/01/2026 14:40

Used to until mid-way through last year and now it has dropped to around 1x per month. We stopped enjoying them and they are so expensive. I’d rather make the effort and cook, or we could eat out for the cost of 2 takeaways, i’d rather do that.

Pancakeflipper · 09/01/2026 14:41

No. Used to when pre-children and we lived in a busy urban area with a decent choice of takeaways.

Moved more rural and I hate relying on delivery drivers (late/cold food/wrong order) so down to about once every 3-6months.
Also i found it expensive and often disappointing, and one of our children has food allergies which limits choice.

Eileen101 · 09/01/2026 14:44

I could murder a takeaway chow mein tonight when the kids are in bed 😫but I know I'll regret it in the night when I wake with a raging thirst.
Decisions decisions. I don't have the ingredients to make it either.

When I do that every other day of the week in fact, we’ll be having a lovely roast salmon on Saturday. I’d like a break on a Friday.

No. I am in London and in theory have so many options available but in practice the food is always disappointing so we don’t.

I think Deliveroo and uber eats have destroyed takeaways. They take such a big chunk of the price that restaurants have had to cut costs.

NewGoldFox · 09/01/2026 14:48

I had my last Chinese takeaway in July last year, £65 and no prawn crackers!
Have been really fancying another lately but just can’t justify the expense.

tillyandmilly · 09/01/2026 14:48

Had a wagamama takeaway once it was cold and horrible! Wasted on me as I do not like chinese/curries etc food either -
