Basically this, anyone else still get takeaway on a Friday evening after the long week? Getting a Chinese tonight. and I’m so excited.

Yes i do.
A takeaway once a week is fine if you are eating well otherwise.

shouldofgotamortage · 09/01/2026 15:53

No, mcdonalds costs like £50 these days! Don’t get me started on the price of Dominos & papa johns. Angry

Ansjovis · 09/01/2026 16:05

I almost never have takeaway delivered as it's usually a letdown. If for some reason we don't want to cook we'll go to the chippy at the end of the road or we'll go out.

thefamous5 · 09/01/2026 16:37

McDonald's for us every Friday. Just about to order it!

FancyCatSlave · 09/01/2026 16:40

Rarely as we live very far from a takeaway with no deliveries.

When I move I intend to have a takeaway when my DD is at her dads - that way I don’t have to share it and it will much cheaper! Then also no mum guilt about letting her have junk. She’s not that keen on Chinese or Thai so
it will be a good excuse for me to indulge.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/01/2026 16:49

Not Friday, but we either eat out or get a takeaway on a Saturday. Cooking on a Saturday night feels wrong.

SpringIsComingSoonFolks · 09/01/2026 16:51

No. I’m always a bit disappointed in most takeaways and they’re ridiculously expensive!

PrestonHood121 · 09/01/2026 17:16

Every other Friday....mostly.

mummydoris2006 · 09/01/2026 17:52

Fish and chips for Friday night tea for me. Also usually a chain type pub meal or takeaway over the weekend too. Usually just me and DH as DD19 has her own plans.
I intermittently fast, 16:8 so really look forward to my evening meals 😋

Bedtelly · 09/01/2026 17:55

Yeah we do and shock horror we normally have wine too.

Wiltshiremum1986 · 09/01/2026 18:01

No, rarely have them as they cost so much. I'll just buy a "takeaway" meal from the supermarket to heat up at home.

Sartre · 09/01/2026 18:09

Almost never get them. They’re always a huge greasy overpriced disappointment.

JustMeHello · 09/01/2026 18:20

I rarely get a takeaway - I'd have guessed maybe every 2-3 months, but this thread has made me order a Chinese, and Just Eat says I haven't had a takeaway since last April!

I can afford them more often but I just never think of it.

LindtCurves · 09/01/2026 18:28

I may get a takeaway once a week, but a 'healthy' one, usually Korean or Mexican, and with a 40% discount. Works out about £12/15 for 2/3 meals, so I might have lunch, dinner and next day's work lunch, too,

It's not so much a treat but rather it works out cost effective for 3 meals, and I get it from places where they use lots of unusual vegetables/nuts/seeds, so helps to diversify my diet without having to spend £££ on lots of different ingredients.

Mind you I'm on a weekend away in area with an excellent Indian restaurant, so now you've tempted me to consider a curry!

sparrowhawkhere · 09/01/2026 18:46

We have one once a week and I look forward to it so much. I’d be interested to hear if the people who don’t get takeaways have meals out, coffees, cafe visits, buy ready made sandwiches? We don’t because we prioritise a takeaway with a TV programme we want to watch. If you don’t get any of those things then I admire your resolve!

PhantomAfternoonTea · 09/01/2026 18:48

I get a pizza most Friday nights. Five quid from Tesco.

Occasionaluser · 09/01/2026 19:00

We very rarely have takeaway these days , might get the kids dominos at the end of term , we are more likely now to go and get some easy to cook M&S ready meals maybe once or twice a month as a night off . Also eat out much less now it’s so much more expensive . It’s a treat - birthdays / exam results etc rather than weekly .

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 19:06

Don’t get takeaways often and don’t eat out or go to cafes or get meal deals really. We don’t drink hot drinks and aren’t really cafe people. Most food out is expensive and a bit crap. On holiday we would have lunch out and a takeaway and that feels worthwhile.

Abitlosttoday · 09/01/2026 19:06

Larrythemonkey · 09/01/2026 11:48

For me the massive treat of a takeaway is not planning, shopping, cooking and clearing up. So we get one once a week on average.

Same. We do it maybe once a month. Always fish and chips because everyone like it. A curry perhaps annually. We should do that more. I could take or leave fish and chips.

Had maybe 3 takeaways in the last 18 months. Chinese is always a let down and I’m so thirsty in the night. Indian was slightly better but not worth the cost.

We are having ready made pizzas as a treat tonight - which in my mind counts!

I think Chinese is so overrated- I don’t get the love at all! I like the crispy duck pancakes but find everything else bland/samey/stodgy/too sweet.

Japanese/Thai or Vietnamese I would love but we can’t get those takeaways here.

Fraudornot · 09/01/2026 20:13

We have got into the habit of once a week since COVID - Indian takeaway, often two mains between 4 is that really so unhealthy

Iris2020 · 09/01/2026 20:26

I rarely do but dh does about once a week as he has a physical job and craves the big greasy meals.
I do treat myself to sushi from an in-supermarket counter about once a month and very occasionally to a Thai that's on my way back from work.

No coffees out because I don’t drink it. Cafes only occasionally on day trips but usually take a packed lunch. No pre packed sandwiches either.
Eat out at a pub maybe every 6 weeks or so when family visit or for other occasions but not routinely. Living in the countryside has advantages as you have to drive a fair way to spend money on food and I’m usually only in town 3 days a week.

But I do like a bottle or 2 of wine a week so I am no saint!

Cel77 · 09/01/2026 20:54

Too expensive. £30 for the 4 of us feels an indulgence. Maybe once every two months.

britinnyc · 09/01/2026 21:05

Yes, I hate cooking on Friday after a long week of work! We eat healthily otherwise and get something from a nice local place not McDonald’s etc.
