Xmas day in PJs?

Ultravox · 24/12/2025 11:13

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

Why not be respectful towards your husband's family by wearing appropriate (and comfortable) clothing in their home, rather than turning up looking like a slob who's just fallen out of bed?

And not washed, either.

My clothes are perfectly comfortable - but on Christmas Day - one whole day - our extended family wear new pj’s bought for a competition and loads of fun! Some posters seem so uptight they have forgotten that concept.

What's the competition, prize and who judges?

AllThePickledOnes · 25/12/2025 11:40

I work from home, and no one is in my house but me, I find it odd to change into jeans and "smart" clothes. No difference between PJs and a tracksuit for example. I'm not going to put on a suit, dress etc just for me.

But I also know it's a habit thing. When I was younger - Xmas or not - I wouldn't ever spend all day in PJs. The pandemic and work from home has changed my definition of comfort and normal.

Xmas is the same as every other day in my house clothes wise.

We all judge - DS printed scorecards. The prize is a plaque carved by DFil about 10 years ago. Criteria is funniest, most creative and best acknowledged of the theme - this years it’s travel.

Sleeping in PJs is weird.

So you sleep in the nude regardless of where you are?

I don't sleep naked.

Is that the parameters of the imagination in some people?

Bayleaf30 · 25/12/2025 13:18

@parker231I doubt your PJ day is remotely similar to what most people mean when they say they are having a PJ day.

It sounds like you are in a country that has houses equipped for cold weather and so are warmer in general than UK houses. And you are dressing in £160 pyjamas that you never intend to wear to bed, in what is the equivalent of a fancy dress competition.

Berlinlover · 25/12/2025 15:34

I’d feel like a right minger wearing PJs all day even if I had showered. There’s something very slovenly about it.

ThisGoldDreamer · 25/12/2025 19:27

We host family Christmas morning for drinks and nibbles, we all get dressed up for that and to have dinner (all prepped the day before). Once it’s cleared up it’s PJs and chocolates for the rest of the day!

Loppp · 25/12/2025 11:57

Why wouldn't you? Unless you're sharing a room with someone why wouldn't you sleep naked?

Marosanne · 27/12/2025 20:06

Seriously? This is your concern?

HolzGainz · 27/12/2025 20:12

I couldn't do it, I like to get up , showered and dressed but I'm usually in my PJs by 5pm, even if we're at someone else's house.

Bluedenimdoglover · 27/12/2025 20:23

You're either for it or against it. Not really important in the grand scheme of things, is it?

ArtfulOrca · 27/12/2025 20:25

Pj's are only nightwear for us. I can't see the point - if you're getting showered, brushing hair and teeth, generally making yourself presentable then it's as easy to get dressed into daywear as into nighwear, surely?

Awww God bless you original commenter 💚🤗💚I kind of see both sides as growing up my Dear Mum always would get my Brother, Her Lovely Self & me all dressed up for Christmas Day, but we used to go to Christmas Mass so it was kind of expected in church - But we'd come home & wear comfortable leisurely wear after - I completely comprehend how for some, Christmas Day is one of very few days, some families, & some individuals, have to just chill out wear pyjamas & totally relax for once, all day, too💚🤗💚

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 24/12/2025 11:27

Of course it’s not normal to wear pyjamas all day if you’re well 😂

So many health professionals in here.

I'm not sure why you equate "taking family photos" with "treating Christmas as a photo shoot". Don't you ever take photos of your loved ones on special occasions? Or do you think it somehow spoils the fun?

And no, pyjamas aren't generally 'robust' - they're designed for sleeping in. So quite the opposite, really.

Agreed. The most precious photos to look back on later on are the ones of kids with grandparents or other family. It's not a photo shoot, it's capturing happy moments (rarely posed).

I'm curious if people who wear pjs all day wear a bra underneath???? To me that's the main thing that makes pjs comfy for lounging on the sofa, the lack of bra. But I wouldn't want to be walking around with extended family, hugging people, playing games, eating dinner with boobs flopping about lol. I realise this is maybe only a consideration for the larger ladies but still.

CharlieEffie · 27/12/2025 22:01

If we arent going anywhere for christmas the pjs are on. We always go for a christmas morning walk on the beach and when we get home we 100% all put new pjs on. There comfy and thats what i want. Im 100000% not a dress up for christmas person. But each to their own, no?

Imisscoffee2021 · 27/12/2025 22:37

I feel wierd if I'm in pj's all day tbh, feels like i should be ill. If people are wearing underwear underneath it's fine, I think I'd feel a bit exposed to be swinging loose under pj's with no bra.

You're right.

I don't believe anyone would get up in the morning, get showered, teeth brushed, hair brushed and then put clean pyjamas on.

Why would you?

Surely the whole point of wearing pyjamas all day is because you're too lazy to get yourself ready for the day and staying in your minging nightwear means you can avoid making an effort.

I am 72 and I did a PJ Xmas day for the first time. It was bloody great! Just me and DH.

A pair of new pj’s are perfect for a fun Christmas Day at home.

XWKD · 28/12/2025 05:56

I don't understand this. My clothes are comfortable, otherwise I wouldn't have bought them. What's the attraction of PJs?

All my clothes are comfortable but spending Christmas Day in new pj’s is a fun way to spend the day.

I honestly think that some posters have totally forgotten about having fun on Christmas Day.
