Xmas day in PJs?

Ultravox · 24/12/2025 11:13

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

It just shows we’re at. Everyone rushed, hardworking and busy. So much so that the ideal celebration includes comfort and relaxation at the heart of it.

Handeyethingyowl · 25/12/2025 00:10

I am quite frequently in pyjama bottoms at home, but ironically, on Christmas day I quite like getting dressed up and would never wear pyjamas all day. I don’t think wearing pyjamas goes well with drinking fizz - personal opinion.

Intothelight123 · 25/12/2025 00:17

Whenever I am home I am wearing lounge clothes or pjs (same thing) unless I know someone is coming or I need to be out somewhere. No one would know and im comfy. My eldest will be wearing pjs to my sisters house for xmas tomorrow. No one really cares.

Rainydayinlondon · 25/12/2025 01:33

I love breakfast in pyjamas but can’t imagine eating turkey and all the trimmings in night clothes.

Velvet all the way here!

SecretWitch · 25/12/2025 01:46

Are people really that invested in what other people wear for Christmas? Wear what you like. I’ll be in yoga pants, tank and cardigan sweater. The thought of dressing up at home is not my thing but if it is yours, go for it

Of course it’s not normal to wear pyjamas all day if you’re well 😂

This^
especially if you do cooking as well.

Normal as in usual or typical, no.

I don't know anyone who doesn't wear clothes during the day. I do find it very weird, nightwear is not that comfy anyway and I can't imagine being home all day anyway. My kids would go nuts, they at least go on a bike ride or go and play football, so we need clothes!

If people are happy, it doesn't hurt anyone. I can't figure out what kind of clothes people do buy if they are that uncomfortable they can't bear to wear them at home during the day😂

I literally get dressed to go to work (change into uniform there) then as soon as I’m home I put jamas on. I then have a bath/shower at bedtime and put fresh ones on. Repeat daily. If I’m not leaving the house I just put clean ones on. I have “women’s problems “ and hate anything tight on my tummy. So loose clothes all the way. As it happens, I had surgery yesterday morning. Had a brand new pair to take with me, a new pair for when I got home. Then washed and put my Xmas ones in to match with my Oh and kids. I’ve got a lovely new set for tomorrow (having a full 3 course Christmas lunch being delivered!!) Then, the only day we are having family (that isn’t my mum), Boxing Day… we’ve got a few family members (adult kids and their babies) and parents coming for a few nibbles etc. they all know I’m going to be a bit useless and probably not much of a hostess… so they are all coming in jamas to have a family jama day!! Even awake now in agony, it’s turning out to be a really nice Christmas!!

What are these clothes everyone is terrified of that are so uncomfortable they have to wear nightwear around the house? Why are you buying yourself uncomfortable normal clothes?

Who said anyone was buying uncomfortable clothes?

All the people who wear pyjamas because pyjamas are more comfortable.

My clothes are comfortable. I buy clothes that fit me and they are... Comfortable.

Exactly.
How do so many people have such rigid thinking?
I can't even imagine being so small minded that I would be"horrified" by what particular style it clothing someone else wears at home.

My clothes are perfectly comfortable - but on Christmas Day - one whole day - our extended family wear new pj’s bought for a competition and loads of fun! Some posters seem so uptight they have forgotten that concept.

horseplay12 · 25/12/2025 09:44

I’m tempted to wear my pjs to PIL this afternoon! Why not be comfy??!!!

Loppp · 25/12/2025 09:52

The whole family wearing matching PJs is just for SM purposes. Besides when I was a teen, I would find it embarrassing that I was wearing the same PJs as my parents.

PJs are just for sleeping in and having breakfast. Even when ill, I wore normal comfortable clothes

DoesItEverGetEasier · 25/12/2025 09:53

I’m debating what to wear, want to wear something new/nice for dinner but don’t want to risk staining it cooking, but it will def be clothes! 🤣

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2025 11:28

I have a new pair of chocolate brown velvet ones. Much smarter than my usual attire 😁

These sounds amazing, can I ask where from?

We do not wear matching pj’s - it’s a competition so would be odd if we’d chosen the same. These pj’s are for fun and not for sleeping in. We don’t use social media - photos are for family enjoyment.

Sleeping in PJs is weird.

Why not be respectful towards your husband's family by wearing appropriate (and comfortable) clothing in their home, rather than turning up looking like a slob who's just fallen out of bed?

drspouse · 25/12/2025 10:31

I've only done this once when I had a chest infection and we didn't have our Christmas dinner till the next day.

Clefable · 25/12/2025 10:34

Delighted to report I got three new pairs of PJs for Christmas, off to change into one of them and drink some Bucks Fizz!
