Xmas day in PJs?

Ultravox · 24/12/2025 11:13

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

My dd spent Christmas Day in her new pjs when she was 6 in 2010. It was the year of the big freeze in Ireland with snow and frost for most of December. She was out with her sister making a snowman in her wellies, pjs hat etc. we have some lovely pics of her. Her first Christmas snow and her wee face only delighted.

Floundering66 · 24/12/2025 18:26

No, I might have a lazy morning on the 27th in my pjs and eating biscuits for breakfast… but a Christmas Day/ Boxing Day are special. I get up, shower, do my hair and make up and wear something nice!

I don't get dolled up but neither do I wear pyjamas on Christmas Day. Usually just jogging bottoms and a top. Nothing remarkable. Since I am cooking I just wear something practical.

I always have a shower by 10am. I like to feel fresh!

It's not for me - I personally feel gross if I don't get up, wash, and dress in actual clothes - even when poorly. I wouldn't judge those who don't, though.

You obviously have never been that "poorly" than.

circledrain1 · 24/12/2025 19:35

We are staying in jammies AND having a takeaway for dinner - do your Christmas Day your way and let others do theirs their way

Runnersandtoms · 24/12/2025 19:36

We're a dress up in nice clothes family. My dad and DH don't own or wear pyjamas so that would be awkward. Plus we like to take lots of family photos at Christmas so like to look nice. There aren't many opportunities to dress up these days so it's nice to do so for Christmas.

Theres only DH, myself and 2 DC but i would never stay in PJs on Christmas day unless I were really ill. It's just downright slovenly.

Slovenly? 😂😂 hark at you. Is it cold up there in your ivory tower? 🤡

ThatJadeLion · 24/12/2025 19:40

Its lazy and slovenly. My opinion.. before someone jumps down my throat!!

Hallywally · 24/12/2025 19:40

I think it’s a bit grim to remain in the same clothes you slept in. Doesn’t have to be formal but surely from a hygiene perspective you should change?

I don't want to look at anyone's genitalia bulging through thin cotton, thanks.

Don't look then.

I swear mumsnet is the twilight zone sometimes 😂

What a very odd thing to write

GentleSheep · 24/12/2025 19:44

Have never done it, am more inclined to dress up a bit.

They aren’t - they are new bought specifically for Christmas Day - silk and glamorous- and won’t be worn in bed.

gamerchick · 24/12/2025 19:45

Ah the annual pjs are gross thread. Wouldn't be Christmas without it Grin

We buy the PJ’s specifically for Christmas and to dress up in - there will be lots of photos. - we will definitely look nice - and the photos won’t be shared outside the family.

Sigh, you put clean ones on after your morning shower.

Not everyone sleeps in PJs.

People just can't seem to expand their minds anymore.

Why - what’s lazy or slovenly about having a shower and dressing up in new silk pj’s?

GarlicBreadStan · 24/12/2025 19:50

Shock horror - I've just had a bath, then got into my Christmas pyjamas, and I probably won't change until tomorrow night (into more pyjamas!)

IidentifyastheGrinch · 24/12/2025 20:15

We have a quiet day, we've been working and juggling flat out all autumn. The children come on boxing day. We will get up and out with the dog then come home and have hot baths and I will definitely get into fresh PJs. I am just planning to read/watch films/build Lego for the rest of the day so see no reason not to be comfortable!

On years where we are having a big family Christmas then we would dress nicely etc, but this year is all about a rare chance to rest.

I imagine most people own more than one set of pyjamas

BCBird · 24/12/2025 20:19

Dressing up.in pyjamas- contradiction 😂

LevelHed · 24/12/2025 20:31

Tacky

tiredofchristmas · 24/12/2025 20:44

Can someone please add a link to the sort of pjs they mean? I cannot comprehend wearing a pair of pjs during the day and it NOT being utterly slovenly. I think I must be misunderstanding something.

Christmas day in our house growing up we would all dress smartly! Dad would have his Christmas tie, mum in a smart top and christmas earings, us in any new clothes :) We still do it to this day. I could never imagine wearing pj’s for Christmas! But then Im the type of person who got dressed smartly and put a full face of make-up on when my contractions started 😂 so each to their own
