Xmas day in PJs?

Ultravox · 24/12/2025 11:13

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

Because they're not day clothes.

Mind blown 🤣

Dliplop · 24/12/2025 12:13

My SIL was from a pyjamas house and we’d been a dress up for Christmas dinner house that devolved into regular clothes when it was down to four of us…it mixed things up! Now we do a mix of pyjamas, Christmassy clothes and a bit dressed up. It’s nice to have the options and it’s our Christmas so who cares!

CheeseWisely · 24/12/2025 12:13

I’ve asked for new PJs for Christmas. We’ll go out to Parkrun in the morning and when we come home I’ll put them on. It’s only the 3 of us (DH, toddler DS and I) all day and we don’t have a fancy sit down meal, that’s later today, so who cares.

The ones I have bought cost more than day clothes and won’t be worn to bed so are day clothes.

youalright · 24/12/2025 12:16

We don't do it but its not unusual. There are 3 types of dress for Christmas. Pyjamas, dressy or Christmas jumpers. None are wrong

Fine, but I did say in my initial post that I don't judge others, so try not to judge my opinion, mmkay?

jetlag92 · 24/12/2025 12:17

I think it's a very odd thing to do - but it doesn't affect me in the slightest, so I really don't care!

If we have guests we get dressed up, but just wear whatever we each want to if we don’t. This might be pjs, or something else very comfortable. Tbh I don’t really want my nicest clothes to smell of cooking. It’s odd to sneer about other peoples’ Christmas preferences, it has no effect whatsoever on you.

GarlicBreadStan · 24/12/2025 12:34

I'm going to get a nice, long bath tonight and get cosy in my Christmas pyjamas.

I can barely stomach wearing clothes on a normal day (I wear lots of soft, baggy fabrics that could probably pass as pyjamas), nevermind at Christmas

I judge whose who thinks it’s odd and that others can’t do something different from them. People have forgotten how to have fun!

Ellie1015 · 24/12/2025 12:36

Haven't done it myself, but not difficult to imagine others might. I don't think it is common but also not unheard of.

Why do you think it’s very odd? I think it’s odd to dress up to sit around your own table at home.

Oldraver · 24/12/2025 12:37

I shower as soon as I get up (no young DC wanting to see if Santa has been). And put fresh PJ's on. Then get dressed for dinner

I don't wear pyjamas as nightwear

We have an annual pj competition with the 20 family members with us on Christmas Day. Each year we have a theme - all three generations take part from grandparents in their 80’s down to DT’s, their partners and cousins in their 20’s.
Strict guidelines and rules - and a huge amount of fun and laughter (until tears are running down your face!).
We aren’t cooking (cold buffet instead as no one likes the traditional Christmas meal). And yes we will all have showered when we get up.

Now that sounds like a fun Christmas!

Motheranddaughter · 24/12/2025 12:43

Each to their own but not for me
My sister would have me certified if I had my pjs on when she comes over

I literally said in my first post 'It's not for me........I wouldn't judge those who don't, though.'

You crack on - I wouldn't do it myself.

grrrlatrix · 24/12/2025 12:45

Not for me, thanks.

VanillaIceIceBaby · 24/12/2025 12:47

AshesUnderUricon · 24/12/2025 11:47

I don't want to look at anyone's genitalia bulging through thin cotton, thanks.

Maybe buy better nightwear.

I wouldn’t stay in my pjs but I don’t know if it’s normal lo mot because I don’t think I’ve ever asked anyone what they wear on Christmas Day.

Whosthetabbynow · 24/12/2025 12:48

Showered and dressed and make up as always. We aren’t out until Boxing Day when we will dress up

juice92 · 24/12/2025 12:48

I like getting up and getting all dressed up. I understand the pyjamas thing. If it's fresh pyjamas after a bath or a shower and not just the same old pyjamas you're in the night before on a dirty body.

Thechaseison71 · 24/12/2025 12:51

Wouldnt be my thing either ( not that i own any PJs. ) does that also mean you are stuck in the house all bloody day. Cant think of anything worse

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 24/12/2025 12:53

I stopped spending half the day in my pyjamas when I became an adult.

I've never understood the whole sitting around in nightwear all day thing though. If I'm up I put clothes on, even if it's a pair of leggings.

SillyNavyTiger · 24/12/2025 12:59

Normal as in usual or typical, no.

I don't know anyone who doesn't wear clothes during the day. I do find it very weird, nightwear is not that comfy anyway and I can't imagine being home all day anyway. My kids would go nuts, they at least go on a bike ride or go and play football, so we need clothes!

If people are happy, it doesn't hurt anyone. I can't figure out what kind of clothes people do buy if they are that uncomfortable they can't bear to wear them at home during the day😂
