Xmas day in PJs?

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

All my clothes are comfortable but spending Christmas Day in new pj’s is a fun way to spend the day.

I honestly think that some posters have totally forgotten about having fun on Christmas Day.

Most posters know exactly how to have fun on Christmas Day and it has nothing to do with slobbing around in their nightwear.

Oh for Christ sake. It's not "slobbing around". I am in my best, most productive, most chilled out moods when I'm wearing pyjamas. Clothes irritate me and even though I buy clothes that fit and are comfortable to most other people, they make me want to rip my skin off. I'm not "slobbing around", I just like being as comfortable as possible.

I get dressed when I am going out. That's all I need to be dressed FOR.

There's no need to be so pissing judgemental just because you have nothing better to focus on.

Yes, I realise that you didn't use the term "slobbing around" initially. It was the poster you were replying to. But you still speak with so much judgement, you may as well have.

I’ve never slobbed around particularly not in new $200 silk pj’s.

Are thick dressing gowns allowed as part of the styling? Anyone wandering around our house in winter just wearing pyjamas would die of cold in a short time.

Exactly, our Christmas fun is playing games with extended family, enjoying a meal with crackers, silly hats and jokes, taking nice and funny pictures, enjoying chatting in a relaxed way. We have loads of fun, wearing clothes.

Pj’s are clothes - I don’t sleep in them

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/12/2025 11:12

I couldn’t do it - it’s usually varieties of smart-ish casual here, but each to their own.
What I really would never want is any of those ‘perfect’ Christmas Days, similar to what they like to include in e.g. House Beautiful mags (pics shot in June in a Georgian ex rectory 😂) where everyone inc. kids has to dress up in their sparkly ‘best’.

It doesn't matter how much they cost, or how silky they are, they are nightwear - clothes you wear at night, in bed.

Why do you think it’s very odd? I think it’s odd to dress up to sit around your own table at home.

Some people might think pyjamas are just for bed?
Some people might think it's nice to dress up for a special day?
I think pyjamas have taken the place of trackies or similar comfortable casual gear.
People can do what they like, I guess.

Well I dressed up Christmas day (not as in night out), but just a nice midlength dress and thick tights), some makeup, no bling. It felt much better, and I enjoyed dancing a long to Christmas songs! I felt more cheerful as I cooked and drank bucks fizz. Dh was dressed too, dcs stayed in pjs, then had Christmas night baths later on, and changed into second pair of clean pjs. Boxing day I lazed about in pjs eating leftovers.
Why would anybody care what others do?
