To find DH’s outfit for dinner really unsuitable?

Meal out at a nice restaurant yesterday. DH wearing smart trainers, jeans and…a black Stone Island roll neck jumper. With badge on sleeve.

He says it’s smart/designer and suitable for the occasion.

I disagree. AIBU?

is he proper buff, OP? A roll neck jumper isn’t the most forgiving of garments for a man…

Could you imagine a man coming on here and criticising what his wife wore to a restaurant?

LubyLooTwo · 27/12/2025 20:54

Depends on the venue but Jeans and trainers are not smart. Pity he can't make more of an effort. What a slob l.you are right to be disappointed.

Would football hooligans be happy with getting a 300 quid jumper ripped?

I only know that because I don't know anything about Stone Island so had to look it up, but it seems they're not cheap. I don't know any football fans who'd be going out in something like that.

Stone Island is the very well established uniform of hooliganism. . I’d be very disappointed and surprised that see anyone I know wearing it. The connotations are extremely well known. I expect Tommy Robinson wears nothing else.

Does he know Stone Island’s reputation? Did he also wear his gucci man bag and slim leg nike joggers with a balaclava?!

hahaha this! Im dead 😂

Stone Island is what football hooligans wear for a few pints and a punch up, isn't it? I wouldn't be happy with DH wearing that for any occasion, tbh.

Jeans and trainers can be fine even for a 'nice' restaurant (depending on the jeans, trainers and restaurant in question) but Stone Island, no thanks. Bad vibes.

Are you Mrs Tommy Robinson?

Stone Island and football hooligans isn't something I'd link tbh

Sounds fine to me

Oh it absolutely is at least for certain lads on away fixtures. The sort of lads who also think getting coked up and aggressive is a great idea.

FarmGirl78 · 30/12/2025 10:08

I do wish more people would realise that "designer" ≠ "smart".

topcat2014 · 30/12/2025 10:09

Designer = common..

AgapanthusPink · 30/12/2025 10:58

‘Smart trainers’ is always an oxymoron. Having said that as long as long as he wasn’t wearing a beanie or baseball cap to the meal I could probably live with it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/12/2025 11:09

Anything with a brand or logo emblazoned on it, is often seen as not smart, if not actually trashy. Even ‘designer’ brands with logos, however expensive, can be seen as trashy in a good many people’s eyes.

However in your dh’s case, if the venue didn’t insist on no jeans/trainers, I wouldn’t have made a fuss about it.
