To find DH’s outfit for dinner really unsuitable?

Meal out at a nice restaurant yesterday. DH wearing smart trainers, jeans and…a black Stone Island roll neck jumper. With badge on sleeve.

He says it’s smart/designer and suitable for the occasion.

I disagree. AIBU?

I had to google stone island as I’ve never heard of it

Not to my taste tbh but not exactly bargain basement prices! A grand for a very meh looking jumper - no thanks

SledgingSlide · 22/12/2025 22:02

He’s in good company…

Stone Island and football hooligans isn't something I'd link tbh

Sounds fine to me

Oh I think most people would make that exact link. Have you been to many football matches recently?

Oh yuck…just when I thought I couldn’t dislike the man any more 🤮

You just know his PR team have run out to buy him that bc they think it’ll resonate with the menz.

Notmyreality · 22/12/2025 22:04

Depends entirely on the “nice” restaurant and its dress code. Impossible for anyone to comment with authority based on “nice” alone. If it doesn’t have a dress
code and he didn’t get chucked out then he’s fine.
Or is this just a hyperbolic way to start another discussion about the ‘roadman’ look which I rather suspect is the real truth?

thatsthatsaidthemayor · 22/12/2025 22:04

How would you have felt if he had suggested you weren’t smart enough?

Bankquestions · 22/12/2025 22:05

I know what you mean.. it’s the “badge” there’s Facebook spotting badges for stone island.. ready to fight etc hard man 😅 never used to be when I was younger but now it is

JillyJoy · 22/12/2025 22:05

It isn't just a question of the restaurants dress code, matching the standard of both of you together is more important.
Either both go out smart or both look as if you don't care.

EuroTour · 22/12/2025 22:05

Photo with the badge in or it didn't happen....

DurinsBane · 22/12/2025 22:06

Get the badge in!

oviraptor21 · 22/12/2025 22:06

I'd be.more bothered that he'd spent £500+ quid on a big standard jumper.

outerspacepotato · 22/12/2025 22:06

Aren't roadmen (not armed) robbers?

They have a sweater brand? Do they do so poorly at robbery that they had to diversify to clothing sales?

I guess robbers have to eat too.

CurlewKate · 22/12/2025 22:06

How old is he?

Stone Island is what football hooligans wear for a few pints and a punch up, isn't it? I wouldn't be happy with DH wearing that for any occasion, tbh.

Jeans and trainers can be fine even for a 'nice' restaurant (depending on the jeans, trainers and restaurant in question) but Stone Island, no thanks. Bad vibes.

Would football hooligans be happy with getting a 300 quid jumper ripped?

I only know that because I don't know anything about Stone Island so had to look it up, but it seems they're not cheap. I don't know any football fans who'd be going out in something like that.

Was he expecting to encounter a group of Millwall fans and have a scrap?

You win the internet tonight!

tartyflette · 22/12/2025 22:07

Just looked it up -- blimey, the prices!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/12/2025 22:07

@SledgingSlide, the roadmen round our way wear 'high-vis' jackets except they don't seem to be 'high-vis'.
In fact we don't 'vis' them at all, which is probably why we still have a lot of pot-holes.

FitAt50 · 22/12/2025 22:08

In Glasgow, Stone Island is worn by drug taking angry men. Definitely has a more chav like reputation.

No, Roadmen are called because of the clothes they wear, way they act etc. like Chavs, Townies were in the 90s, 2000s

DappledThings · 22/12/2025 22:09

Never heard of the brand but if the badge is on the sleeve it doesn't sound too prominent. Jeans and a jumper sounds fine to me for most restaurants. It might not be as dressed up as you want him to be but that's not the same as being inappropriate

Most of the “Stone Island” you see around is fake.

My nephew has Louis Vuitton, SI, Gucci - everything - he is on the dole 😂

I have some real designer stuff and would be hard pushed to tell the difference tbh.

DurinsBane · 22/12/2025 22:10

Was he wearing a Burberry scarf in the early 2000s? 😁

No road men are more similar to what my generation called chavs.

’cool’ young people that tend to hang around the streets.

Yes some of them will rob and they have the same reputation as chavs but not necessarily all robbers - a lot are wannabes rather than doing any actual harm.

It's very much a thing with a certain type of bloke, generally the type whose idea of a fantastic Saturday night is getting tanked up, watching the football, doing a few lines and having a fight.

outerspacepotato · 22/12/2025 22:14

Ah, ok.

People at loose ends on the street doing their thing.
