To think we should ban the term ‘globalise the intifada’

After the terrorist attacks in Manchester and now Bondi, I struggle to see how this term is anything other than a call to violence against Jews. We should be cracking down on it, in the same way we do other hate and violence inciting speech.

I'm with the spirit of your post, OP, in that yes, it is being used in an anti-Jewish way, but you can't go banning language terms - [and I'm even unsure about 'hate speech' as a crime in general, though as an upstanding citizen, I endeavour never to use it, and to call it out if I hear it]

We live in a country where certain terms are banned so why not this one.

SoulSearchBeHonest · 16/12/2025 12:28

SheinIsShite · 16/12/2025 12:21

22% of posters who have voted on the poll seem quite OK with a campaign of violence against Jews.

WT actual F.

Indeed. Awful. These people are unable to separate Jewish people around the world from the conflict in Gaza, so to them, its ok to call for global action against Jewish people. Hence, what happened on Bondi beach. Terrorists enabled to act.

2DemisSVP · 16/12/2025 12:28

See, I think, for extremists, “globalise the intifada” means this: wherever you are in the world, take direct action against Jews. It doesn’t matter if people chanting the phrase don’t think that’s what it means. They are not the extremists and not the ones who will go on to commit violent acts. Seeing thousands of Westerners chant it effectively gives extremists a green light, even if those using the slogan do not intend it that way.

I don’t want my children to have to go to war. I feel like this division and fear is contributing to increased global tensions. Everyone needs to be thinking how best we can achieve peace.

Or is that appeasement? Who knows. I hate the thought that we might repeat the mistakes of the past and what that means for this generation.

Calling for global 'action' against Jewish people, individuals, won't stop Israel existing. It just leads to hatred of people totally unconnected to the conflict in Gaza. It doesn't do any good, just hate.

SandwichCutter · 16/12/2025 12:34

Indeed, I think even Digital ID deserves careful consideration, even if it means restricting free speech to protect those at risk. I do wonder whatever has become of the patriotic spirit of the British people?? These days, it feels like no one wants to stand up to our enemies or even sign up for the forces. Stand up! Step forward!

Maybe if you had seen the celebrations by the Palestinian population around the world responding to the invasion, massacre, kidnap and rape of Jewish people on October 7th 2023
You would realise why people have more sympathy for those on the beach in Australia

DorianTempest · 16/12/2025 12:43

Why can't we have sympathy for the Palestinian and Israel population? As an English person I feel recently that we're being tugged between Muslim and Jewish communities and both are vying for us to defend them and not consider the humanity of the other group (and will often try to cancel us or shut us down if we DARE have sympathy for the ongoing slaughter on both sides)and its becoming exhausting. It feels like we Christians are a child caught between a messy divorce and I'd rather my agnostic grandparents take me in at this point than deal with the constant tedious bickering between my Jewish and Muslim mother and father.

I think words are restricted in certain contexts (e.g. parliament, broadcasting) but not banned outright.

80% of Jewish people are Zionists. There is nothing wrong in believing in the existance of the state of Israel.

Maddyisqueen · 15/12/2025 23:33

Has anyone forgotten the genocide in Gaza? Far far worse than shouting some words

intifada does not mean bombing buses - they don’t exist 2000 years ago

who knows what you’d do if it was your people

There isn't a genocide. A war fought in a densely populated civilian area is not a genocide.
Shouting about it weekend after weekend has certainly proven to be incitement though.

Many, many, many Jewish people are calling to globalise the intifada too.

"Many Jewish people are calling for their own murder".

Well said

we don’t have to take sides and we can abhor the violence everywhere

Amen to this post.

Ablondiebutagoody · 16/12/2025 14:02

We need to crack down on Islamic extremism and unrestricted immigration from such countries. But we won't. We'll keep on talking about anti-semetism and pretend that one group isn't responsible for 99% of attacks.

SpaceRaccoon · 16/12/2025 14:03

Oh don’t be ridiculous. Globalise the intifada is a call to resist colonialism and imperialism, Zionism and genocide. It’s not about attacking Jews for being Jewish.

Zionism is literally the belief in a Jewish homeland, ie Israel's right to exist. What does resisting that actually look like exactly? Probably something like 7 October 2023.

So all Jewish people across the world are fair game? Sad but true?
Heaven save us from your compassion.
More broadly, that a bunch of useful idiots shouting “globalise the intifada”, who I suspect would be hard put to identify Israel or Gaza on a map still do not understand the Pandora’s box their idiocy has unleashed is terrifying. If only they could realise the privilege of that terrifying ignorance but I suspect they don’t.

Gosh no

open your mind to the motives - I am highlighting the motives not agreeing with them

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2025 14:08

‘Isreal purposefully tries to conflate Zionism and Judaism in order to minimise criticism of its atrocities, which only encourages attacks on Jewish people.‘

Nice bit of victim blaming there.
People are being shot simply for being Jewish, in countries thousands of miles from Israel. That is the fault of the murderers and those who encourage and excuse them, not of Israel.

Donury236 · 16/12/2025 14:08

Calls by anyone of any race, religion etc for any hateful against anyone else based on their race or religion should be banned.

You can protest, you can push back, you can take action against inequalities, persecution, political suppressions. but to go after people simply for who they are, what they believe and where live/exist has to stop on all fronts.

Will it? Sadly, not unless we are all wiped from this planet.

Why would people want to sign up for the forces?

Leaving aside considerations about whether it's fair to expect young people to sacrifice even more for wealthier, older generations, veterans are treated poorly.

SpaceRaccoon · 16/12/2025 14:12

Tbh I'll be really glad when this ridiculous alliance between the far left and Islamism gets in the bin.
It hardly ended well in Iran, but I suspect there isn't a lot of historical awareness going in.

“Isreal purposefully tries to conflate Zionism and Judaism”

You are making Israel sound conspiratorial, which is odd. The belief that Israel should exist as a homeland for the Jewish people is a completely commonplace belief. Most people in the UK are zionists.

It’s strange that you can be so confident that ‘globalise the intifada’ has a non-violent meaning when it is so often used by violent people. The ambiguity is obviously part of the point - it’s aggressive but just about plausibly deniable that you are calling for violence. Of course if protesters wanted to be clear they didn’t support violence they could just use a different phrase 🤔
