The BBC should lose the license fee and be forced to operate like any other streaming service after the complete destruction of trust this week

Thats it really, the BBC lied to us, all of us.

They edited a Trump speech to make him look like he said something he did not.

They pushed one side of the transgender debate relentlessly, deliberately hiding negative stories on detransitioners, the US WPATH file and thousands of more cases

https://archive.ph/wWdMS

https://archive.ph/uiEKW

They have cancelled people for wrong-think at every opportunity, pushed drag queens over women, turned woman hours into mens hour, constantly attacked anyone who does not share their extreme liberal left wing views and kept them off the news cycle

They have utterly and completely lost all trust, they ARE biased they DON'T give balance in the news

Everyone thought it was a conspiracy, now we know it's actually true and we have PROOF

Today the BBC Director and News Director have both quit in absolute disgrace.

It is time the BBC was consigned to the dustbin because we are never getting back to the BBC I loved and trusted, the one that ran programmes to inform and entertain and educate, that BBC is long gone.

Replace it, completely.

Who stands to gain from privatised media? 🤔

Tens of millions of people who would no longer be forced to pay for a nationalised broadcaster they don’t watch under pain of imprisonment?

MaturingCheeseball · 09/11/2025 20:27

The hiring practices have been very suspect. Recruiting only candidates who fit the approved profile.

The BBC website, when it began, was a tremendous thing. Gradually it became flippin’ Ripley’s Believe It Or Not; endless front-page articles on Trans issues. I deleted it.

They didn't alter the meaning though. Trump said what he meant and he meant what he said. I do agree that it didn't need to be edited that way though - getting the meaning across with a break and a voiceover indicating transition to the end of the speech would have done.

However, pulling antisemitism into this whole mix tells me that there are many posters on this thread who have their own biases, and who don't really care much about the wholesale killing of children. Criticising Israel for its actions is not and never will be antisemitic.

They didn't alter the meaning though. Trump said what he meant and he meant what he said

They did however. If you can't understand why journalists can't just pick n mix words like this, then I cannot help you. You are clueless.

I think there is value in an independent, public broadcaster.

But it only works if it genuinely delivers on the highest of journalistic standards.

It needs serious reform.

This.
The BBC is a mess. It has ceased to be impartial.

SeaAndStars · 09/11/2025 20:28

I'd still trust the BBC more than any other news outlet.

InterestedDad37 · 09/11/2025 20:28

Every right wing nutter claims the Beeb is basically full of commies.
Every left wing nutter claims the Beeb is basically full of nazis.
The reality is (duh!) somewhere in the middle.
It's like the NHS - deeply flawed, but we're totally stuffed if we lose it!
Don't just wish it away.

The BBC world services renowned throughout the world it’s amazing how you’re letting yourself be cons by billionaires

They are not antisemitic

I agree, baffled seeing that comment.

Floisme · 09/11/2025 20:30

I don’t want the BBC to lose its license fee but I do want a public service broadcaster that can be trusted to report the facts impartially. Their job is to tell me what Trump said, not what they think he meant to say.

I still hope they can turn it around but this has been a disgraceful episode.

OonaStubbs · 09/11/2025 20:30

The BBC is a waste of space and does not represent the views of the vast majority of the British public.

By changing the message YOU DO ALTER THE MEANING - and they spliced together pieces 30 plus minutes apart to look like he directly called for violence AND HE DIDN'T.

The man is a twat you don't have to lie to make him look worse

But the radio is free without the licence fee - you can still listen to anything decent on there!

Ah yes that’s true. But actually it was something on Radio 4 - the Today programme, in fact - that was the last straw for me, so I’m not going to listen to that either.

Can't be the BBC then can it. I WOULD pay (via general taxation) for an independent news service, divorced from control by the government that was audited and proven to have an even unbiased hand.

I agree the Trump thing was bad, and the coverage of the trans issue wasn't great (but has been getting more balanced recently I think).

But I also think, be careful what you wish for. I'd rather have the Beeb than a choice between Netflix or Farage News ...

How is it more balanced if they rebuked their own presenter this week for calling women, women?

The BBC has gone batshit on so many fronts there is rarely any critical thinking present there anymore.

It is our national broadcaster, we pay for it, and it should primarily serve us. If it doesn’t we are entitled to take a view.

😱I have such positive memories of the BBC from my childhood. And CBeebies used to be so good. How are the mighty fallen.

I agree. I don't want it gone but I'm optimistic because I don't think it would be half as difficult to reform the BBC as to reform the NHS say, and I'd quite like to keep at least a version of both.

ThatCyanCat · 09/11/2025 20:46

The people who need to resign won't.

Papyrophile · 09/11/2025 20:47

Too many BBC reporters confuse reporting with delivering opinions. And unfortunately with broadcasting their prejudices.

Dollymylove · 09/11/2025 20:49

The BBC, once a highly respected and trusted institution is no longer fit for purpose. Make it a subscription channel and see how many people will actually pay for the drivel they turn out 😵‍💫

workingtowards · 09/11/2025 20:51

Of course the BBC is not perfect, At least when mistakes/misjudgements happen, people are help to account, which is what we are seeing. You should find it reassuring. It is hugely better that the insanity we are seeing in the American news system, where financial, religious and political interests warp news reports without any apparent repercussions.

LikeAHandleInTheWind · 09/11/2025 20:51

Their coverage continues to be biased against women - the BBC online article about this scandal makes no mention of their LGBTQ news desk suppressing stories about discrimination against gender critical women and misrepresenting the biological sex of trans identifying criminals (almost always males).

If you flick through iplayer or BBC sounds their output is incredibly male dominated- totally unacceptable for a publicly funded service.
